Our Social Studies class participates inmany different charities such as “StopHunger Now” and “Gleaning.” “Stop Hunger Now” is an organization created to give people in other countries a nutritious meal. “Gleaning” is a project in whichpeople gather leftover sweet potatoes from the last harvest.

Our Subject Related Field Trips

At Magellan we go on many field trips to learn about the specific country and cultures we are studying in class. For example we went to Fujisan to learn about Japanese culture. Fujisan is a restaurant where the chefs cook a traditional meal in front of you.

This is a traditional Japanese pagoda garden we went to in Norfolk, Virginia.

People come visit us from different countries to explain their culture and lives in that country. For example, Paul Taylor came from Australia to tell us about his experiences when he was a child. We also had Ji-Li Jiang come from China to tell us about her experiences during the Cultural Revolution.

Conclusion

We hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about our social studies class and our many projects that go along with it.
