March 29, 2020 Dear Friends in Faith: I hope and pray that you are all well and practicing social distancing. As we enter into another week of being homebound, this gives us a great opportunity to spend some of that time in prayer, even if you don’t come to church. Those of you who are out shopping, running to Costco or Sam’s Club, or picking up take-out food, why not swing by Holy Trinity, St. Agnes, St. Max or St. Therese Church to make a special visit? You’re out anyhow and Lord knows there is enough space in the churches to practice social distancing. Please pray that this comes to an end sooner rather than later. Eucharistic Adoration: Once again, on Sunday the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity, St. Max or St. Therese. You may want to stop by the church and make a visit. Palm Sunday: As you know, Palm Sunday is next Sunday, April 5th. Palms will be blessed and placed in all eight churches. A special Mass will be live streamed on our Facebook page at 9:00 a.m. Immediately after that Mass, palm will be taken to all eight church buildings to be picked up on Sunday or through Holy Week. Holy Week Schedule: At the time of this publication, we are waiting for word from the bishop on how Holy Week will be handled. This information will not be available until Thursday afternoon, so please watch next week online or in our bulletin for information regarding how Holy Week and Easter will be celebrated. Confession: At the present time confessions will not be heard in the confessionals. For safe distancing practices, people will be able to sit six feet behind a priest or six feet in front of him. There is to be no touch-ing. Please respect the space that has been set up in each of the churches to allow people their confidentiality. For those wishing to go to confession, confessions will be heard in the following churches at the following times: April 5th St. Therese Noon until 2:00 p.m. St. Max Noon until 2:00 p.m. April 6th St. Rita Noon until 1:00 p.m. St. Agnes 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

For those of you who do not have a computer, Mass can be watched on MeTV at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, and you can also watch it on EWTN. Food Assistance: Please, if you need any assistance with food, please call the parish offices. The Food Pantry will be open at St. Rita on Saturday, April 4th from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Please drive around the back in the parking lot and you will be given directions to follow. School News: In regard to St. Therese School, Governor Wolf has decided to keep the schools closed for another two weeks. The students are participating in their classes on-line. Reminder! Please check in on your elderly and high-risk family, friends and neighbors. And please, do not hesitate to call us for any assistance that you may need. Stations of the Cross: While Stations of the Cross have been canceled in the church, we have included the prayers in this bulletin so that you can pray them at home. Finally, as part of the daily Coronavirus Task Force Update, Vice-President Mike Pence, along with President Trump, urged people of all faiths to remember that the ministries of all faith communities throughout the country, to continue to support their church. The Vice-President outlined the fact that faith communities are streaming their Masses and Services as well as continuing to serve their communities by caring for those in need. He specifically made a public call to everyone to remember to give their offertory contributions in these challenging times here in America, because of all the good works which our faith communities do. We rely on your sacrificial gifts to keep us going. Whatever you can give financially to the church is greatly appreciated. Please drop off your envelopes at any of the parish offices or mail to your parish office. God Bless,
Father Dan
Pope Francis Prayer for Protection from Coronavirus O Mary, you shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope. We hope entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick. At the foot of the Cross you participated in Jesus’ pain, with steadfast faith. You, Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need. We are certain that you will provide, so that, as you did at Cana of Galilee, joy and feasting might return after this moment of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the Father’s will and to do what Jesus tells us: He who took our sufferings upon Himself, and bore our sorrows to bring us, through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen. We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas - we who are put to the test - and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.

GOSPEL MEDITATION March 29th, 2020
5th Sunday of Lent
Even though we say that we believe, there is a part of us that doesn’t. There are many times in our lives when we experience death, whether it be the physical death of someone we love, a failed relationship, the loss of a job, or a broken dream. As we are going through these death experiences, we can easily find ourselves reaching out to God to make it better and fix it! We think that the proper order of life is to maintain the things of this world, especially those things that are essential to our sense of well-being and security. We do not like change. The grieving that comes from our death experiences can keep us stuck and in despair. If we have lost something or someone of great value, the very meaning and essence of life is lost with them. We need gentle companions to lift us from despair and that is precisely who God desires to be in our life as well.
God calls us out of our tombs, where we have been closed up in fear and despair, and shouts, “Come out!” He desperately wants to show us the path to hope and the new life that is possible after loss and death. But our faith can be weak, and we still prefer to cling to the memory of what we had rather than the joyful possibilities of tomorrow. We sometimes live as if God is not real and that the transforma-tive power of His resurrected presence is a story found in the Bible rather than a narrative unfolding in our lives.
God is the God of surprises, not our demise. God opens new possibilities, begins new chapters, creates new verses, and brings us to new heights! We spend so much time and energy ruminating over what we left behind yesterday that we are far too tired to see what can unfold tomorrow. Loving someone new doesn’t negate our past loves. Embracing the love of a person, God, or life itself tomorrow doesn’t diminish the love of yesterday. Each of our loves is different, and one cannot be replaced by another. They don’t cancel each other out. God truly has tended to every detail of our lives, and if we listen to each detail, we find that they all lead us back to Him. Jesus wants us to come out of our closed-up tombs. Are we going to listen this time?
REFLECTION
Are you asleep? Today Jesus is called to the grave of a dear friend who had recently died. Martha cries out that if Jesus were closer, her brother Lazarus would not have died. Remember from the First Sunday in Lent that death and sin are connected and that life is seen as living a faith-filled life? That is what is happening in this Gospel. Living as a disciple of Christ can give us the ability for a life everlasting in the presence of God. What in our lives needs to be uncovered, as Lazarus is unwrapped of his burial clothes and retuned to live with his loved ones? As we move closer to Easter Sunday, let us ask God to unwrap or unbind that which needs to be healed so that we may live a life that is pleasing to God.

Grouping 229 Update
Isn’t it interesting that since the Coronavirus has taken front stage, and rightfully so, we don’t really hear anything about what were our major news concerns in the world? Even with this being an election year, that has taken a back seat.
Well, I want to remind you with regards to the church, especially the eight parishes coming together as one, we are still working on accomplishing this goal. Members of the pastoral and finance councils have signed off on all the documentation that is to be submitted to the vicar within the next two weeks.
I am very thankful to our team of people who have worked so hard to bring us to the point where we are.
There are now some groupings that are asking for extensions to get things done. As far as I am concerned, I am thankful for what we have accomplished and where we are at. I stop and think and, even laugh. God does have a sense of humor. The number one question I would get, “Father, what churches are staying open? Come on, you know.” Well, God has spoken and none of them are open right now. So, it doesn’t matter what any of us think. This has been a true wake up call. It has become a reality that if this continues for a few more months, we will see a totally different church than what we were planning. A fine example is the loss of two fish fries. We have lost roughly $60,000 of net income that we will not get back, nor be able to make up, and this is just one fundraiser. A second example is, look at the weekly collection going from roughly $27,000 a week, to $15,000 a week, to $7,800 a week. This give us food for thought. I share this with you so that you know what I am thinking about during these trying times. But, I truly BELIEVE that God will protect His church. There will remain a strong Catholic presence in the Steel Valley and we will do this together.
Father Dan
TIGHTENING OUR BELTS
We’re facing tough times and as a result we’re taking steps to be good stewards of parish funds. Here are some of the steps we’re taking to reduce cost:
1. We shut down the heating systems in all churches and buildings where no one lives. If you come into an open church for private adoration, you will likely notice the crispness in the air. We think it’s a small trade-off considering the high cost to heat all of our buildings.
2. We terminated the contract with a landscaping company that took care of the grounds at St. Therese. We will use our maintenance staff to take care of the grass. This will save the parish thousands of dollars per year.
3. We’re consolidating the natural gas contract with one supplier. This gives us the ability to lock in at a lower rate for the purchase of gas. This move will help us now and into next winter.
4. At the same time, we’re taking advantage of the downtime and catching up on maintenance projects throughout the grouping. Our sincere thanks go out to the many who have gone out of their way to continue their contributions to the church. up for the online giving program to ensure that the parish continues to receive contributions. These are unprecedented times and it’s up to all of us to work through this challenge.

3.
The First Station Pilate condemns Jesus to die
Priest - Consider how Jesus Christ, after being scourged and crowned with thorns, was unjustly condemned by Pilate to die on the cross. (Kneel) People - My adorable Jesus, it was not Pilate; no it was my sins that condemned You to die. I beseech You, by the merits of this sorrowful journey, to assist my soul on its journey to eternity. I love You, my beloved Jesus; I love You more than life itself. With all my heart I repent of ever having offended You. Never let me be separated from You again. Grant that I may love You always; and then do with me as You will.
Through her heart, His sorrow sharing; All His bitter anguish bearing; Now at length the sword has passed.
The Second Station
Jesus accepts His cross
Priest - Consider how Jesus as He walked this road with the cross on His shoulders, thinking of us, and offering to His father, in our behalf, the death He was about to suffer. (Kneel) People - My most beloved Jesus, I embrace all the suffer-ings You have destined for me until death. I beg You, by all You suffered in carrying Your cross, to help me carry mine with Your perfect peace and resignation. I love You, Jesus, my love; I repent of ever having offended You. Never let me separate myself from You again. Grant that I may love you always; and then do with me as you will.
O, how sad and sore distressed; Was that Mother highly blessed of the sole Begotten One.
The Third Station
Jesus falls the first time
Priest - Consider the first fall of Jesus. Loss of blood from the scourging and crowning with thorns had so weakened Him that he could hardly walk; and yet He had to carry that great load upon His shoulders. As the soldiers struck Him cruelly, He fell several times under the heavy cross. (Kneel) People - My most beloved Jesus, it was not the weight of the cross but the weight of my sins which made You suffer so much. By the merits of this first fall, save me from falling into mortal sin. I love You, O my Jesus, with all my heart; I am sorry that I offended You. May I never offend You again. Grant that I may love You always; and then do with me as You will.
Christ above in torment hangs; She beneath beholds the pangs; Of her dying, glorious Son.
We have included the Stations of the Cross for you to pray at home.
Each Station begins with:
Priest - “We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You. (Genuflect)
People - Because, by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world. (Rise)
After each Station:
Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be
Preparatory Prayer
My Lord, Jesus Christ, You have made this journey to die for me
with unspeakable love; and I have so many times ungratefully abandoned You.
But now I love you with all my heart; and because I love You,
I am sincerely sorry for ever having offended You. Pardon me, my God,
and permit me to accompany You on this journey. You go to die for love of me;
I want, my beloved Redeemer, to die for love of you. My Jesus, I will live and die always united to you.
The Fourth Station Jesus meets His afflicted Mother
Priest - Consider how the Son met His mother on His way to Calvary. Jesus and Mary gazed at each other and their looks became so as so many arrows to wound those hearts which loved each other so tenderly. (Kneel) People - My most loving Jesus, by the pain You suffered in this meeting grant me the grace of truly being devoted to Your most holy Mother. And, you, my Queen, who was overwhelmed with sorrow, obtain for me by your prayers a tender and a lasting remembrance of the passion of your divine Son. I love You, Jesus, my Love, above all things. I repent of ever having offended You. Never allow me to offend You again. Grant that I may love You always; and then do with me as Your will.
Is there one who would not weep; ‘whelmed in miseries so deep; Christ’s dear Mother to behold.
The Fifth Station Simon helps carry the cross
Priest - Consider how weak and weary Jesus was. At each step He was at the point of expiring. Fearing that He would die on the way when they wished him to die the infamous death of the cross, they forced Simon of Cyrene to help carry the cross after Our Lord. (Kneel) People - My beloved Jesus, I will not refuse the cross as Simon did: I accept and embrace it. I accept in particular the death that is destined for me with all the pains that may accompany it. I unite it to Your death and I offer it to You. You have died for love of me; I will die for love of You and to please You. Help me by Your grace. I love You, Jesus, my Love; I repent of ever having offended You. Never let me offend You again. Grant that I may love You always; and then do with me as You will.
Can the human heart refrain; From partaking in her pain; In that Mother’s pain untold?
The Sixth Station Veronica offers her veil to Jesus
Priest - Consider the compassion of the holy woman, Veronica. Seeing Jesus in such distress, His face bathed in sweat and blood, she presented Him with her veil. Jesus wiped his face, and left upon the cloth the image of His sacred countenance. (Kneel) People - My beloved Jesus, Your face was beautiful before You began this journey; but, now, it no longer appears beautiful and is disfigured with wounds and blood. Alas, my soul also was once beautiful when it received Your grace in Baptism; but I have since then dis-figured it with my sins. You alone, my Redeemer, can restore it to its former beauty. Do this by the merits of Your passion; and then do with me as You will.
Bruised, derided, cursed, defiled; She beheld her tender Child; All with bloody scourges rent.
The Seventh Station Jesus falls the second time
Priest - Consider how the second fall of Jesus under His cross renews the pain in all the wounds of the head and members of our afflicted Lord. (Kneel) People - My most gentle Jesus, how many times You have forgiven me; and how many times I have fallen again and begun again to offend You! By the merits of this second fall, give me the grace to persevere in Your love until death. Grant, that in all my temptations, I may always have recourse to You. I love You, Jesus, my Love, with all my heart; I am sorry that I have offended You. Never let me offend You again. Grant that I may love You always; and then do with me as you will.
For the sins of His own nation; Saw Him hang in desolation; Till His spirit forth He sent.
The Eighth Station Jesus speaks to the women
Priest - Consider how the women wept with compassion seeing Jesus so distressed and dripping with blood as He walked along. Jesus said to them, “Weep not so much for me, but rather for your children.” (Kneel) People - My Jesus, laden with sorrows, I weep for the sins which I have committed against You because of the punishment I deserve for them; and, still more, because of the displeasure they have caused You who have loved me with an infinite love. It is Your love, more than the fear of hell, which makes me weep for my sins. My Jesus, I love You more than myself; I am sorry that I have of-fended You. Never allow me to offend You again. Grant that I may love You always; and then do with me as You will.
O sweet Mother! Fount of Love, Touch my spirit from above, Make my heart with yours accord.
The Ninth Station Jesus falls the third time
Priest - Consider how Jesus Christ fell for the third time. He was extremely weak and the cruelty of His execution-ers was excessive; they tried to hasten His steps though He hardly had strength to move. (Kneel) People - My outraged Jesus, by the weakness You suf-fered in going to Calvary, give me enough strength to overcome all human respect and all my evil passions which have led me to despise Your friendship. I love You, Jesus my Love, with all my heart; I am sorry for ever having offended You. Never permit me to offend You again. Grant that I may love You always; and then do with me as You will.
Make me feel as you have felt, Make my soul to glow and melt; With the love of Christ, my Lord.
The Tenth Station Jesus is stripped of His garments
Priest - Consider how Jesus was violently stripped of His clothes by His executioners. The inner garments adhered to His lacerated flesh and the soldiers tore them off so roughly that the skin came with them. Have pity for your Savior so cruelly treated and tell Him: (Kneel) People - My innocent Jesus, by the torment You suffered in being stripped of Your garments, help me to strip my-self of all attachment for the things of earth, that I may place all my love in You who are so worthy of my love. I love You, O Jesus, with all my heart; I am sorry for ever having offended You. Never let me offend You again. Grant that I may love You always; and then do with me as You will.
Holy Mother, pierce me through, In my heart each wound renew, Of my savior crucified.
The Eleventh Station Jesus is nailed to the cross
Priest - Consider Jesus, thrown down upon the cross. He stretched out His arms and offered to His eternal Father the sacrifice of His life for our salvation. They nailed His hands and feet, and then, raising the cross, left Him to die in anguish. (Kneel) People - My despised Jesus, nail my heart to the cross, that it may always remain there to love You and never leave You again. I love You more than myself; I am sorry for ever having offended You. Never permit me to offend You again. Grant that I may love You always; and then do with me as You will.
Let me share with you His pain, Who for all our sins was slain, Who for me in torments died.
The Twelfth Station Jesus dies upon the cross
Priest - Consider how your Jesus, after three hours of agony on the cross, is finally overwhelmed with suffering and, abandoning Himself to the weight of His body, bows His head and dies. (Kneel) People - My dying Jesus, I devoutly kiss the cross on which You would die for love of me. I deserve, because of my sins, to die a terrible death; but Your death is my hope. By the merits of Your death, give me the grace to die embracing Your feet and burning with love of You. I yield my soul into Your hands. I love You with my whole heart. I am sorry that I have offended You. Never let me offend You again. Grant that I may love You always; and then do with me as You will.
Let me mingle tears with thee, Mourning Him who mourned for me, All the days that I may live.
The Thirteenth Station Jesus is taken down from the cross
Priest - Consider how, after Our Lord had died, He was taken down from the cross by two of His disciples, Joseph and Nicodemus, and place in the arms of His afflicted Mother. She received Him with unutterable tenderness and pressed Him close to her bosom. (Kneel) People - O Mother of Sorrows, for the love of your Son, accept me as your servant and pray to Him for me. And You, my Redeemer, since you have died for me, allow me to love You, for I desire only You and nothing more. I love You, Jesus my Love, and I am sorry that I have offended You. Never let me offend You again. Grant that I may love You always; and then do with me as You will. By the cross with you to stay, There with you to weep and
pray, Is all I as of you to give.
The Fourteenth Station Jesus is placed in the sepulcher
Priest - Consider how the disciples carried the body of Jesus to its burial, while His holy Mother went with them and arranged it in the sepulcher with her own hands. Then they closed the tomb and all departed. (Kneel) People - Oh, my buried Jesus, I kiss the stone that closed You in. But You gloriously did rise again on the third day. I beg You by Your resurrection that I may be raised gloriously on the last day, to be united with You in heaven, to praise You and love You forever. I love You, Jesus, and I repent of ever having offended You. Grant that I may love You always; and then do with me as You will.
Virgin of all virgins blest! Listen to my fond request; Let me share your grief divine.
Prayer to Jesus Crucified
My good and dear Jesus, I kneel before You,
asking You most earnestly to engrave upon my heart a deep and lively faith,
hope and charity, with true repentance for my sins, and a firm resolve to make amends. As I reflect upon your five wounds,
and dwell upon them with compassion and grief, I recall, good Jesus, the words the Prophet David spoke
