GROWING DISCIPLES WHO ARE GROWING DISCIPLES:
PASTORAL PLAN 2014-2015
Dear Friends in Christ,
The Pastoral Council of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church has developed this annual
Pastoral Plan with consultation from hundreds of parishioners in two dozen focus sessions,
parish staff, and our consultant Bob Shearer, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It builds on
the plans and Spirit that has guided the parish since its first Mass in 2005.
This Pastoral Plan has been created to guide us in 2014-2015 towards realizing our Mission
Statement:
Empowered by the Eucharist,
we humbly commit ourselves
as a welcoming community
to grow in faith and share Christ’s love
through our joyful witness and selfless stewardship.
In each area of parish life, we ask, “Where we are going?” The short answer is, “To the Lord.”
We are moving to the Lord.
Our ministry and activities touch five groups of people. Each area of parish life in the Pastoral
Plan has a diagram entitled “Moving to the Lord.” On the diagram of concentric circles, we have
mapped a word-cloud to see which of the five groups the parish life events and activities touch.
The diagram shows where we invest our Time, Talent and Treasure to move the parish towards
the Lord:
The outermost circle of the diagram encompasses the Community. Anyone living in
Oviedo, Geneva and Chuluota, Catholic or not Catholic, is the Community. We invite
them to drop in. “Come and see!”
The next group of people is the Crowd. Many do come and see. This is where we all
begin. You might attend Mass only for Christmas and Easter. During the year, you might
attend Sunday Mass with your family but would likely not attend Mass on your own.
When asked what church you belong to, you would say, “I go to Most Precious Blood.”
The next group is the Connected. You have made a deeper commitment from “I go to
Most Precious Blood,” to “I belong to Most Precious Blood.” You have registered in the
parish and make a financial offering at least monthly. You pray daily and attend Sunday
Mass weekly.
3 Most Precious Blood Catholic Church Growing Disciples Who Are Growing Disciples | Pastoral Plan 2014-15 UPDATED 1-19-15
The next group is the Committed. You participate each week in the parish beyond
Sunday Mass, such as adult faith enrichment, a prayer group, or a retreat. You are
working towards tithing ten percent of your income. Your priorities and lifestyle are
changing.
The innermost circle is the Core. Giving as you have received from the Lord, you make a
difference in the lives of others. You tithe ten percent or more of your income. You lead
others and raise up leaders for the Church. You are the hands and feet of the Lord.
No matter where we are, we are moving to the Lord. How do we get there?
MPB 2020: A Most Precious Picture is our roadmap. It guides all that we do towards the year
2020. The Pastoral Plan, in each area of parish life, spells out particular initiatives for the year.
Some actions can be done in a year. Other actions (in italics) will take five years or more. Still
others have not yet been dreamed. The important thing is that we keep one eye on “Where we are
going” and another eye on “How do we get there.” This 20/20 vision moves us steadily to the
Lord.
Each area of parish life will grow. The Commissions, with Pastoral Council oversight, will
update the Pastoral Plan each spring. The key questions guiding each commission’s ongoing
discernment, informed by our Parish Values, are:
Who do our ministries and activities aim towards?
What part of the 5 Year Plan are we working on?
How do our ministries and activities move us from the Community to the Crowd to the
Connected to the Committed to the Core?
How do we raise up leaders for our parish and the Church?
How do we make a difference for our community?
How do we help the poor?
The areas of parish life are in a particular order in the Pastoral Plan. Community, Faith
Formation, Liturgy and Care & Outreach correspond roughly to the order of the Mass
(Gathering, Liturgy of the Word, Liturgy of the Eucharist, Sending). Evangelization,
Stewardship and Communication thread through all areas of parish life. Facilities and
Administration support these seven areas of parish life.
We have invested in beautiful grounds and facilities to support these parish ministries and
activities that move us to the Lord. The sooner that we pay off the debt on our investment, the
sooner we can expand our facilities to match our growth in ministry.
In a word, we are Growing Disciples Who Are Growing Disciples. We are growing in
discipleship as we move to the Lord. And we are growing disciples as we help them move to the
Lord. Go wide and go deep! Share blessings and build blessings!
Father David
Pastor

FAITH FORMATION & DISCIPLESHIP
“The Christian faith is, above all, conversion to Jesus Christ….For the Christian, this metanoia [change of life] reorients all aspects of the person’s life to Christ. This conversion is the acceptance of a personal relationship with Christ, a sincere adherence to him, and a willingness to conform one’s life to his. Conversion to Christ involves making a genuine commitment to him and a personal decision to follow him as his disciple. Through this discipleship the believer is united to the community of disciples and appropriates the faith of the Church” (National Directory for Catechesis, page 48).
His disciples came to Him and He began to teach them. Mark 5:5
