We are Growing Hope.

This holiday season, you can support Growing Hope through charitable

contributions, shopping our gifts for gardeners and other merchandise, and by

attending some of our many upcoming events.

Proceeds from the products and services in this catalog help support Growing

Hope’s work to provide programs and resources to families who can’t otherwise

afford them. By choosing to buy from Growing Hope, you’re contributing to our

ability to improve the health and wellness of the community.

We are Growing Hope, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization in Ypsilanti, Michigan, working to help people improve their lives and communities through gardening and increasing access to healthy food.

For ten years our work has empowered people to grow, eat, share, and sell healthy food in ways that positively impact their health and their neighborhoods. While we support people throughout our community and region, we are most passionate about working with low-income families who have difficulty accessing the tools and resources to grow and consume healthy produce.

We have a tradition of using a “market and mission” approach—a social enterprise model in which proceeds from enterprises within the organization help to support its charitable purposes. Our ventures include running a demonstration working urban farm, conducting annual plant sales, and managing farmers markets in Ypsilanti and beyond.

MAKE A CONTRIBUTION If you’re making a donation, you can use the enclosed envelope or mail a contribution to Growing Hope, P.O. Box 980129, Ypsilanti, MI 48198. You can also make a contribution online at www.growinghope.net.

Since 2009, we’ve helped 220 low-income and no-income families install raised-bed veggie gardens at their homes and apartments to increase their households’ ability to access fresh, healthy, and affordable—free!—food.

Our Raised Bed Vegetable Garden program is helping families who have limited access to gardening resources get started growing healthy food, now and for years to come. These families provide us with valuable data by weighing and tracking what they grow.

We’re building a real-world data set to quantify that perennial question— “What can you grow in a square?” In 2012, families grew on average 90 servings of fruits and vegetables in their three raised beds! We’re also observing an impact beyond the family households and kitchen tables—most families share their harvest with others, and some are becoming deeply connected with their food and health as a result of their garden.

By offering these garden products and services to paying customers, like you, we generate profits to fund our continued work with families who can’t afford to pay—but still deserve a chance to grow healthy food themselves.

Growing Healthy Families

GARDEN PRODUCTSIt’s never too early to think spring! You can buy one of these kits now, or buy a coupon that can be redeemed in March or April.

Raised Bed Garden Kits Create a beautiful, tidy garden.Raised beds lengthen the growing season, help the soil retain nutrients, reduce the risk of pests and weeds, and create a pleas-ing space to grow. They also allow you to control the soil your plants live in, and provide a base to attach other structures to, such as trellises, mini-hoops, etc. Do-it-yourselfers will find everything needed to create a 4’x4’ raised bed ready to be filled with soil and plants! Kits include untreated white pine or spruce, hardware, and instructions. A hand screwdriver is the only tool needed for assembly. If you need a taller bed, please call for pricing. 4’ x 4’ x 8” $37.00

Season Extension KitsStart growing earlier—keep growing later. Create your own mini-greenhouse easily with our kit to cover a 4’x4’ bed. Curved metal conduit hoops and poly (clear plastic) sheeting install easily and help maintain humidity and warmth for your plants during cool weather. Comes with clips, hardware, and assembly instructions. $37.00

Combo Pack: Raised Bed and Season Extension KitOne 4’x4’x8” Raised Bed Kit and one Season Extension Kit. $64.00

Animal Control KitsKeep out pests, keep in plants. This kit includes the same hoops and hardware in our season extension kit to fit perfectly over your 4’x4’ raised bed kit. Instead of plastic, this kit comes with deer netting to stretch over the hoops to keep animals out of your garden. $27.00

Combo Pack: Season Extension and Animal Protection KitOne Season Extension Kit along with the deer netting from the Animal Protection Kit. $47.00

For a gift of $50, you can sponsor a family with the resources and support to grow their own veggies!

If you’re looking for general advice, are having problems with your garden, or don’t know how to get started, we provide hourly consultation on a variety of topics:

n Garden planning, such as what plants grow together well, how much to plant and proper spacing.

n How to grow plants through an extended season to maximize your harvest.

n Garden maintenance, such as watering, nutrients, composting, pest and disease control without

chemicals. n Harvesting, such as what to pick

when, how to prepare the garden for winter.

Do you want to develop a bigger garden project? Maybe an herb garden for your restaurant, a raised bed for a workplace wellness program, or a green plot that transforms your daycare into a healthier place for kids?

From neighborhood plots and schoolyards to workplaces or restaurants, gardens can be a great, productive addition to any space.

Dream big, and contact us for more details and project rates. Prepaying for a consultation for your favorite budding garden makes a great gift. $45 per hour
