Grumbi explores the house. He looks around the kitchen to see what he can find.

He finds old dusters and old tea towels all over the kitchen floor ..................

and finds lots and lots and lotsof buttons, all different coloursand all different shapes and sizes.

Suddenly Grumbi has a wonderfulidea. I see things being wasted allthe time and this is making me sad.I think it’s time to make some newfriends. I need the help of the children

Grumbi is curious and discovers a bin, Mmmmm that’s interesting he thinks and takes a look inside the bin.

Page 9: Grumbi Guide

I have a great idea, would youlike to help make some friendsfor me. I’ll help you along theway. We can use old dusters old tea towels and any odd buttons we can find.

Cutting and sewing along the way, having fun.

and start to draw on the materials Grumbi had found for them.

And so the children began to help ..............

He was so happy that he thankedall the children for helping him.Grumbi was no longer lonely ashe had lots of friends to playwith.

THE END. .

Grumbi ended up with lots and lots of friends that the children help to make

Things you will needOK some tips foryou to help youon your way.

Materials and tools that you will need. You can of course use different materials to what I have shown here.It just depends what you have lying around your house.

OK what’s next?

Page 11: Grumbi Guide

The next step ismaking patterns.

Draw your pattern onto your chosen material. You’ll need a front and a back.

Cut around the pattern Save the material as shownin grey to chop up and use as stuffing for the doll.

Sew the front and the backpieces together. I like doingbutterfly stitches by wrappingthe thread around the needleas I pull it through.

But stick to normal stitching if you prefer. And do not stitch around all the doll. Leave a small gap so you can stuff your doll before you finish all the sewing up.

Now the finishing touches.Sew the buttons in place forthe eyes and a couple of stitches for the mouth.

and sewing.

PatternsI’m going to start by making the eyemask and jackets from the tea towels.

sew a button here

make a slithere, this is to fasten the eye mask around the dolls eyes.

make two more slits here to push the eyes through

back of jacket

left side front of jacket

right side front of jacket

sew these pieces to theback of the jacket and attach

a button where you want.Don’t forget to make a slitto fit the button through.

Page 14: Grumbi Guide

Have a go at makingyour own patterns.

Remember you’ll need two of these, one for the front and one for

the back.

Make a hole here, this is where you

can hold your story book

Page 15: Grumbi Guide

Here’s where you canmake me a story bookfor me to carry with me

and share with my friends.

Write your story along these pages and then fold in half to make a book. Punch two holes at the top and thread some string through it and tie around my hand for me to carry

around and for me to be able to swap stories with my friends. Use as many pages as you need.
