Introduction Do you like to build things with your bare hands? Or maybe you like to order others to do it for you? If this sounds like you, then this guide is your one stop shop for all things crafting in 2.9 Galactic Strongholds and Conquests. In this guide I will share some of my current market strategies as well as my predications to put those strategies into place with the new changes to the economy. You can be an Artisan by skimming through this, or you can become a Master Artisan and SWTOR billionaire if you read the entire compendium and apply it in-game. The path you take is your own. Good luck.
Note: Remember, you will need reference my two material list guides. The order in which you read the other two
doesn’t matter much as they are mostly just organized resource listings.
Here they are again:

Getting Started: The Basics
Alts and Legacy Crafting/Gathering
Ultimately, the more alts you have, the more money you will (potentially) make. The big deciding factor
here will be TIME. Can you send all your alts on missions once a day? Twice a day? 50 times a day?
Personally, I have school and work most of the week, so I usually can only do this 3 times on weekdays,
but don’t let that stop you if you can send them out more! Here are some tips on getting alts to craft
and without worrying about needing 16+ level 55’s:
Have at least 1 level 55 character (not necessary for lower level crafting).
Be a subscriber. The point of this is to be a mogul, and with a credit cap, what’s the point?
Level alts to 10 and get at least 1 companion (More is always better but requires a lot more time. So, this
is mainly directed at newer level 55’s without tons of alts already).
In your legacy window under “other”, pay for Rank 1 companion affection gain on EACH alt.
Go to the companion gifts vendor and buy as many rank 1 gifts until your companion can’t gain anymore.
Then repeat this step with Rank 2. Just buy Rank 5’s until you hit max affection. Repeat this on ALL
companions! See why you need at least 1 million credits?
Purchase the ship droid (or bug a guildie for each alt you want to make) for the droid crafting crit parts.
For your crafting alts you will want to level to 17 for RV-28 (less costly) or unlock HK-47 (very costly) so
that you can purchase the crafting droid bonuses. Treek is also an option now as well. Don’t be faction
bias for crafting!
Don’t bother choosing classes that have companions with certain crits to skills unless you intend to get
them to the level that unlocks that companion! This can be a huge time sink otherwise! And time is
money!
Go to the GTN and purchase as many server unlocks as you plan on using alts for.
Next, buy the account unlock for GTN listings. You’ll need that extra page!
Buy 6 Account Inventory Unlock (must be account) modules for your alts. You’ll need space.
Buy at least 1 Account Cargo hold module. Again, you’re going to need space!
Purchase a deployable mailbox (50k) per alt and a repair droid (or the best option is a Revan Statue
unlocked for account)
9 Click Me to go back to Table of Contents
Crafting Skills Ultimately, your goal is to obtain every crafting profession and every gathering skill (with multiples of all
gathering skills). All crafting alts should be next to or have quick access to a mailbox and/or GTN.
Remember, if you really just want to craft you can. You can choose to constantly buy the materials and
rely on crits for large profit. Watching the market is crucial if you choose to negate gathering your own
materials. Let’s get Crafting!
What are the max companions I can assign to craft or gather?
Your current level determines how many companions can be on a mission or crafting at any given time.
Example:
Level 10 1
Level 15 2
Level 25 3
Level 40 4
Level 48 5

Archaeology
Archaeology is the study of crystal formations and archaeological finds. Crystal formations contain crystals that an Artificer can use to construct lightsaber modifications and armor for Force users. Archaeological finds contain artifact fragments of Force-imbued technology. These valuable items contain ancient formulas and algorithms used in the crafting skills Artifice and Synthweaving. Archaeologists can send their companions on missions to gather resources.
YIELD: Artifact Fragment – Color Crystals – Power Crystals RECOMMENDED CRAFTING SKILLS: Artifice, Synthweaving
Bioanalysis
Bioanalysis is the practice of collecting genetic material from creatures and vegetation. Genetic materials include cell fibers, bacterial strains, toxic extracts and medical fluids. Biochemists use these materials to create medpacs to restore health, stimulants (single-use injections) that provide a boost to physical abilities, and biological implants that enhance combat prowess by stimulating neural networks and regulating brain system functions. The crafting skill Biochem utilizes Bioanalysis resources. Bioanalysts can send their companions on missions to gather resources.
YIELD: Biochemical Compounds – Biochemical Samples RECOMMENDED CRAFTING SKILLS: Biochem
Scavenging
Scavenging is the art of salvaging useful parts and base materials such as metals, alloys and synthetic Compounds from potential technological resources-junk piles, fallen droids, abandoned cargo, and broken down vehicles. The crafting skills Armormech, Armstech, and Cybertech utilize Scavenging resources. Scavengers can send their companions on missions to gather resources.
YIELD: Scavenged Compounds – Scavenged Metals – Flux RECOMMENDED CRAFTING SKILLS: Armormech, Armstech, Cybertech
Slicing Slicing is not a skill required for crafting. Slicing is the art of accessing secure computer systems and lockboxes to acquire valuable items, credits and rare tech schematics. Common Slicing targets include electronic safes, date stations, security mainframes and biometric footlockers. These targets contain credits, rare tech schematics used to construct Cybertech gadgets, vehicles and space upgrades, and mission discovery objects that unlock challenging missions that can potentially yield great rewards. Slicers can send their companions on missions to retrieve these valuable items. Other possible mission rewards include augments that can be slotted into exceptionally crafted items.
YIELD: Augments – Lockboxes – Mission Discoveries – Cybertech Schematics RECOMMENDED CRAFTING SKILLS: ALL (Cybertech benefits the most)
Mission Skills

Companion characters sent on Treasure Hunting missions can return with rare gemstones used to construct prototype and artifact enhancement, hilts, color crystals, focii and generators. Other possible rewards include lockboxes that can hold contain valuable items or credits and gifts for companions to raise their Affection rating.
YIELD: Gemstones – Lockboxes – Companion Gifts
RECOMMENDED CRAFTING SKILLS: Artifice
Underworld Trading
Underworld Trading entails the exchange of goods and services on the galactic black market. Sending your companions on Underworld Trading missions can yield luxury fabrics and underworld metals used to construct prototype and artifact armor, earpieces, grenades, space upgrades and weapons and armor modifications. Other possible rewards include gifts for companions to raise their Affection rating.
YIELD: Augments – Lockboxes – Mission Discoveries – Cybertech Schematics RECOMMENDED CRAFTING SKILLS: ALL (Cybertech benefits the most)
Why Bother with Low Level Materials in 2.9?
14 Click Me to go back to Table of Contents
2.9 is nothing short of magical for Crafting and Gathering. Crew Skills that were once lack-luster (I’m looking at you Investigation!) are now vital parts of the economy. The simple answer is that every material of every grade for every crew skill is now used in the crafting process for Fab Kits. This is a new large market that will impact EVERYTHING else. My guess is that equilibrium of sorts will occur. Prices of items that were extremely low because they weren’t used much for crafting will finally hold values similar to the current useful ones.
Here are some materials that you’ll want to rethink vendoring:
Fabrics (finally)
Sliced Tech Parts
Color Crystals
Research Compounds
Grade 7-8 Materials (Level 50)
Is Companion Affection Worth it? Let’s Talk Numbers
In order to understand the true benefits of affection in SWTOR, you must first understand the
calculations that it is built upon. The following quote is from Patrick Malott in response to DarthTexas
made in the Q&A blog back in 2012. The numbers still apply today.
Source: http://www.swtor.com/blog/community-qa-april-27th-2012
Quote: Patrick Malott (Systems Designer)
“The baseline crit chance for crafting is dependent on the difficulty of the crafting action relative
to your current crafting skill level. The difficulty is color-coded in the crafting GUI.
Orange Difficulty: 10%
Yellow, Green, & Gray Difficulty: 15%
Companion Affection scales Crew Skill crit chance up to 5% at maximum affection.
15 Click Me to go back to Table of Contents
A Companion Trait critical chance bonus of +1 or +5 is a percentage. “
Example:
“The Imperial Agent companion character Kaliyo grants a +2 bonus to Underworld
Trading Critical. This is a +2% bonus.
Using Kaliyo at a maximum affection as an example, if she ran a green difficulty
Underworld Trading mission for you, she would have a 22% chance to score a mission
critical success.”
Conclusion
Yes. It’s worth it if you are serious crafter.
Watching the Market
It may seem very obvious to some to check a price and then list yours under it. Do you actually
remember what that price was yesterday though? How about that week? How about earlier that day?
You need to understand how the Galactic Trade Network works like real world markets, and how it
doesn’t in order to properly benefit from it.
Arbitrage - the practice of taking advantage of a price difference between two or more markets: striking
a combination of matching deals that capitalize upon the imbalance, the profit being the difference
between the market prices.
16 Click Me to go back to Table of Contents
Maybe you heard it as flipping a house or buying low and selling high. That’s what we’re going to master in this section.
The GTN can now be sorted by unit price and not just the actual price. Find items that you know are part of bestsellers and check them daily. This will help with choices on what to craft, how much, and when as well.
While buying low and selling high can return profits, it is not optimal because of random luck. However, you can find gems like I did last night. A Cassus Fette helmet was posted for 5k. They sell for 300-500k! This was clearly a typo.
A lot of times new content, such as cartel packs, come out on Tuesday. Or raids reset etc. Most people buy their items Tuesday – Friday based on my market trend analysis. That’s when you SELL. However, Saturday – Monday items are low. That’s when you BUY and spend time gathering materials. Obviously, you will be buying and selling the whole time, but those are the days when you will get the most profits or lack of profits. So plan your listings accordingly! Your server MAY be different. I can’t stress that enough.
Low on mats but really want to craft? Check the GTN for prices on the materials and buy them if they are at the market LOW. Days will be Fri-Mon!
If you Crit (companion makes that item x 2) on a Fab Kit, Augment, Augmentation Kit, Armoring, Mod, Enhancement, Stim, Medpack, Adrenal, Color Crystal, Barrel, or Hilt DON’T just assume that’s “Pure Profit”. You’re goal here is to make a profit margin on things you craft, not crit. Anytime I Crit on an item, I check the market price of it and assume I have say, 90k, to spend on materials to craft another! You can potentially keep getting Crits, and constantly buying mats. This will help you mass produce items for your target market(s). Only buy low and still get most of your mats from your gathering alts! NOTE: Ear pieces, implants, relics, armor shells, hilt shell, and barrel shells will augment a slot rather than make the item x 2. These are less profitable, but sell for slightly more. Pay close attention if it augmented or not when listing the item! I recommend to just sell the mats though.
Under each section, once a day, click on unit price and sort it from least to greatest. See what items seem peculiarly low. Buy those and wait until Tues-Fri again to sell them for profit. This method will also help you familiarize with market prices without having to write them all down.
There is much more on Cartel Items which I will cover in the Cartel Section next.

Cartel Market
For the few that don’t know about the Cartel Market it is a virtual item shop for SW:TOR. You can’t
necessarily buy items that make your character do more damage, but you can get items that make them
look different. Most of our game’s subculture has been transformed into fashionistas. Swtoristas if you
will. These items are bought with Cartel Coins that you use real life currency to purchase. Now that
that’s out of the way, let’s cover how you can make some credits off of the Cartel Market.
Let’s take a look at Arbitrage again. Cartel items take 48 hours to unbind from your character for most
items. They also sell high the first week, then sell very low, then sell very high again once no one is
buying them anymore.
Dyes are one of the few exceptions and you should look at those asap on the first day. Usually they have
everyone undercutting each other like mad dogs. This is the time to BUY. I bought two Gray/Black dye
modules for 150k when the first bounty packs came out. Now those are selling for 500-750k each.
Mounts. It can be hard to tell at first if this can be lucrative. It’s definitely an investment, but can take a
month or two to reap the real benefits. And of course, much more of a return the longer you wait. Simple
supply versus demand here. On average the mounts are between 4-5 million the first week. They drop all
the way down to 1.8 million to 2.5 million right before the next pack will come out. That’s when you BUY
BUY BUY! Very few people will purchase that same mount anymore. You rinse and repeat this cycle for
each pack release. Then resell them for the 4-5 million original posting.
Weapons. Only resell the ones that have animated effects on them.
Regenerative Health Items. Buy these and resell. They ALWAYS yield a profit!
Armor Sets. These are very fluctuating. Watch the market. And wait.
Selling the actual Packs. If you choose to do this either sell the packs immediately, or wait until a pack is
going to be embargoed. More often than not if you wait to sell Bioware themselves discount the cartel
cost of packs and the market on them will dip. This is where being a millionaire in real life can easily make
you a millionaire in game. Only do this if you like throwing money away lol.
18 Click Me to go back to Table of Contents
Reverse Engineering Have you ever seen people spam in general chat that they can craft literally every 31 barrel, hilt,
enchancement, mod and armoring available? Ever wonder how in the world they learned all those rare
schematics on so many toons? Well, it’s because Bioware openly allows you to be able to do so.
Purchase a crafted item like that off of the GTN, put it into your weapon or armor, pull it out, and
then have the 20% chance to learn how to craft that yourself.
This is not advised honestly. But if you do it enough times and control the market you will become
very wealthy very fast. You could spend 20 million buying those items off of the GTN and never learn
how to craft it. This is Just a word of warning. RNG is RNG after all.
Also, Reverse Engineering is necessary for all of your crafting markets. You will want the blue
(prototype) or purple (artifact) variants that you learn from your trainers. You can only obtain these
by reverse engineering the lower level to learn the rarer version of it.
Getting a Customer Base
There are a few ways that you can be popular in SWTOR. Popularity when it comes to crafting is a very,
very good thing. When people give you the mats, you get to keep the crit. This is very profitable if you
do! So, how do I get customers to come to me?
19 Click Me to go back to Table of Contents
You can do this by simply listing items in BULK on a regular basis. Players will see that you are obviously
controlling that market and come to you directly for large orders. They will do this even if they are low
level items. DO NOT NEGLECT YOUR LOW LEVEL MARKETS!
Spamming Fleet: Spamming can be cumbersome as it requires you to stay logged in to that character for
extended periods of time. Be creative with your messages and direct! Don’t forget to spam BOTH Republic
AND Imperial fleets. These are two customer bases that you want to gain.
Ex: “Tired of healers calling you squishy? Stop being a cupcake and be a BEEFCAKE with Advanced
Bulwark AND Bastion 34 Enhancements. Crafting FREE! Bulk mailing of mats welcome for large
orders!”
- Note: You should always use /3 or TRADE chat when spamming. Never spam 1 line after
another. I usually wait about 5 minutes to spam again.
Guildies! Although this may not be so profitable if you donate your Crits to them/guild bank. It’s nice to
get that connection going. Sometimes guildies may tell non-guildies what you can craft and word of
mouth will spread. There’s nothing morally wrong with keeping the Crits from guildies either. You’re still
providing them a free service.
GTN Etiquette: Dos and Don’ts.
Undercutting: offering goods or services at a lower price than (a competitor).
In SW:TOR this can be very frustrating. The part that’s REALLY bad is when other players undercut by a
large amount. This may sell the item quickly, but it definitely negates a large amount of the potential
20 Click Me to go back to Table of Contents
profits. Over time this can cause the market to bottom out (item sells for costs of the materials or less).
It’s important to know the basics of undercutting and listing items in general on the GTN.
When you undercut someone make sure that you stay within 50k of items over 1 million, 5k for items
over 100 thousand, 500 for items between 10k-100k, and 5 credits for items. And 50 credits for anything
between 0 and 10k. This helps to prevent drastic undercutting and will take much longer for items to
bottom out.
When items start to get close to the point where the market will bottom-out, buy everything below the
average market value and relist them. There are many other GTN moguls who do this. If you’re going to
follow the guide you need to learn how to act as a civil entrepreneur. This is your lifeline. Take care of it.
Never, EVER, EVER post items ending with 99. This is a red flag to a lot of buyers. It shows them that you
are actively undercutting others in the market. Some players may not care, but others have been known
to simply not buy your item because of it! It’s TRUE!!!
When you DO post something make sure that you are never listing it for the price that it defaults when
you place it up for auction. Never post different prices for the same item on the GTN. It’s tacky and shows
you don’t take your time. Always use nice round numbers when posting. Examples are: 850, 75850,
185850, and 1,350,000. By ending the numbers in 0 it shows that you aren’t undercutting to the naked
eye. It also shows that you actually take your time to place your items and CALCULATE price costs of
items.
Post items for 12 hours for fast moving (or being constantly undercut) market items. 1 day for items that
are a little slower. The ONLY items that I post for 2 days are items that I’m selling for over 1 million. Why?
Because the longer you list, the more it costs. It’s a difference of about 22 credits, but hey…we’re trying to
MAKE credits…not waste them. Be efficient!
Calculating Prices: Never sell 1 item for more than you would a stack. Be fair to your buyers. If you’re
going to list items individually (not in stacks) make sure that your single cost is cheaper than other’s
stack costs. You can find this out by using the unit price filter now.
Sell materials in stacks of 10 each. If you can’t sell them by stacks of 10 sell them at 1 each.
Make sure that your items aren’t drastically more expensive than the cost to make the item. Treat your
customers well and they will notice. This is a key component in maintaining that customer relationship
that you want.
o Example: Mass Manipulation Generators cost around 400k on average to buy. Vials of Isotope 5
have dropped down to 75k to buy. Exotic Equalizer Elements rose to 20k to buy. The other
materials costs are around 20k total to buy. So, for any item that is rated as a “31” will now costs
895,000 credits for YOU to make if you bought each item yourself. Most of the population is
aware that you can benefit from crits as well. So, should you post the 31 hilt you made for 1.5
million with a 600k profit? Or for 1.2 million with a 300k profit? These are basic integrity
questions and your buyers will know if they are being ripped off or not. Remember, you’re not
trying to make one large sale, but multiple smaller sales that will keep bringing your customers
back!

Being Frugal
“Did you see the new Morlinger mount on the GTN? It’s 4 million credits though…but it’ll match my
character perfectly!”
This is where it starts for most of us. Then you keep checking it each day to see if the price has lowered.
It may go down a little and you begin to think to yourself, “There’s no way it’s going to go down more! I
need to buy this ASAP.” However, you’ve only got 5 million credits. Regardless, you bite the bullet and
purchase it anyways. You are really happy for about 10 minutes showing it off to your friends and
guildies. Then it sets in…”I just spent almost all of money on a mount. I need to do dailies ASAP!” This is
a trap that many of us fall for. Even in our real lives. It’s the reason that two people who make the same
amount of money can be in far different financial stabilities. Do you go out to eat and spend $50 dollars
at Joes Crab Shack? Or stay at home and make your own Crab Pot for $12? Saying no to our little inner
demons can be hard, but if you want to succeed with this guide then you’re going to have to say no
every now and then.
Like an item? Only buy it if the price is low!
Never spend more than 10% of your savings on an item!
Only buy something if you will actually use it! I’ve seen people (including myself sometimes!)
change their outfits. These outfits could have cost them over a million+ credits to assemble! And
for alts! Do not fall into this trap. Take your time and figure out a look that you REALLY like. I’m
not talking one day of GTN browsing but more like a week. Visit http://tor-fashion.com or
http://swtorista.com to get a broader idea... Consider dyes, combinations, and creativity. Does it
match the character you play? Is it clever? Does it make you want to play that character more?
The same goes for mounts and weapons too. Take your time when buying for your alts as well!
Manage your money! It’s important to make a lot of money, but it’s probably more important to
know how fast you’re making it too. Usually, I will leave 1 million credits (exactly) on each
character besides my main. That’s 15 million credits other than my main that I consider to be
savings. So, each Sunday morning, I will mail everything over 1 million credits to my main
character (Lowkee) from all of my alts so I can see my weekly earnings. This tells me if I’m being
lazy or if I really put in some work crafting. It keeps me on my toes by getting averages.
NOTE: You don’t need 1 million per character to do this! Start off with 50k or 100k. Whatever
you can afford to start with do so. I only leave that much because my alts do scan the GTN and I
might see a deal that I can earn a profit on. Example: Mass Manipulation Generators for 250k.
