GSICS Coordination Center Roles GSICS Procedure for Product Acceptance
• GPPA was originally developed by Dr. Bob Iacovazzi, following the QA4EO guidelinesQA4EO guidelines
• The GPPA is the GSICS …– Product developers pathway to obtain a “Stamp of Approval” for a potential productProduct developers pathway to obtain a Stamp of Approval for a potential product– Data users window to GSICS product quality and “fitness for purpose”– Governing reference for judging GSICS product fitness
• The GPPA defines and documents the …– Scope of products within the GSICS product portfolio – correction of level1b data– Theoretical basis traceability and implementation and distribution strategy– Theoretical basis, traceability, and implementation and distribution strategy– Product quality (uncertainty, quality indicators, data user’s guide, etc)
• The GSICS Product Acceptance Form (GPAF) is available at GSICS wikip ( )– https://gsics.nesdis.noaa.gov/wiki/Development/GppaWorkflow

GSICS Correction Algorithm for Geostationary Infrared ImagersThe first major deliverable to the user community is the GSICS correction algorithm for geostationary satellites.
The user applies the correction to the original data using GSICS provided software and coefficients. Before 3K Bias
The correction adjusts the GOES data to be consistent with IASI and AIRS.

GPRCs have their own product monitoring/plotting websites “GSICS Plotting Tool” has been developed at EUMETSAT
• Common look and feel (Easy comparison among multiple products)• Dynamical plotting (no need to prepare lots of figures)• Now, only single file is supported (i.e., RAC which contains all time series info.)

GSICS Principles
• Systematic generation of inter‐calibration products• for Level 1 data from satellite sensors• to compare, monitor and correct the calibration of monitored instruments to community references
TRACEABILITY / UNBROKEN CHAINS OF
• by generating calibration corrections on a routine operational basis• with specified uncertainties• through well‐documented, peer‐reviewed procedures
COMPARISONS
• based on various techniques to ensure consistent and robust results
• Delivery to users• Free and open accessp• Adopting community standards
• To promote• Greater understanding of instruments’ absolute calibration• Greater understanding of instruments absolute calibration, by analysing the root causes of biases
• More accurate and more globally consistent retrieved L2 products• Inter‐operability for more accurate environmental climate and weather forecastingInter‐operability for more accurate environmental, climate and weather forecasting products
Who are the targeted users?
Any activity requiring well calibrated Level 1 data acquired by the satellites covered by
GSICS- Level 2 products (geophysical parameters)- Climate applications
Example of user = the SCOPE-CM initiative (Sustained Coordinated Processing of Environmental Satellite Data for Climate Monitoring)
