Influenza A Virus
Is subdivide into two distinct large surface glycoprotein's antigens.
H- Haemagglutinin which initiates infection and attachment of virus to the susceptible cell
N- Neuraminidase which is responsible for release of virus from the infected cell
Mutations in the antigenic structure of the influenza virus have resulted in a number of different influenza subtypes and strains (antigenic drift)
H Type (1-15) and N Type (1-9)
Only H1, H2 and H3 and N1, N2 are found in humans.
Example: H1N1,H2N2,H3N2 etc.
