Their project ‘Electricity-free LPG Refrigeration and Air-conditioning’ has been featured on reality innovation show ‘Power of Shunya Challenge for Zero’ among the finalists. Note: After we published the news about the Smart Wheelchair designed for physically handicapped people by Ankit Pramodbhai Thakker, Neeraj Maheshbhai Patel, Parth Tusharbhai Pathak and Hardik Bharatbhai Meisheri, we have come to know that a second project called Urja-Sanrakshak’ by GTU alumni Jainil Bhatt, Dhruvin Kagdi, Tirth Jani and Kunjal Jadav is also being telecast under the same program by ETNow. Thus two out of 24 projects, selected from all over the country out of all the 78 technology Universities and other top-rated institutions of our country, are from the Final Year projects of 2012 and 2013. ETNow news channel conducted a nationwide contest for emerging innovators of India. Innovative projects throughout the country were evaluated and top 24 innovations were selected for their display on the tv show ‘Power of Shunya – Challenge for Zero’, sponsored by Du Pont. Objective of this contest and show was to map the innovation quotient of the country, and to provide a nationwide platform to most promising innovation. Top three innovations were awarded prize money of Rs 10 lakhs, 5 lakhs and 2.5 lakhs respectively. GTU alumni Jainil Bhatt, Dhruvin Kagdi, Tirth Jani and Kunjal Jadav, were selected amongst these top 24 teams of innovators. Their project was ‘Electricity-free LPG Refrigeration and Air-conditioning’. It consists of a refrigerator and AC developed by the team, which utilizes the pressure energy of LPG flow during various applications like cooking, automobiles, industrial processing, gas cutting, etc. This prototype, named as ‘Urja-Sanrakshak’, does not consume LPG but just recovers its pressure energy, which is being wasted otherwise. So it is truly a zero cost product, which requires no electricity to produce cooling effect. As a part of the competition, Jainil was coupled with Ankur Goyal, an MBA student from IIM Ahmedabad, to develop a business plan and marketing strategies for the product. In the first phase, a team from ETNow visited Ahmedabad to shoot the working prototype and to interview Jainil and his technical guide. In the second phase, Jainil was invited to New Delhi, along with all other participants for shooting the series.

GTU alumni Jainil Bhatt, Dhruvin Kagdi, Tirth Jani and Kunjal Jadav, were selected amongst these top

24 teams of innovators. Their project ‘Electricity-free LPG Refrigeration and Air-conditioning’ has been

featured on reality innovation show ‘Power of Shunya – Challenge for Zero’ among the finalists.

Note: After we published the news about the Smart Wheelchair designed for physically

handicapped people by Ankit Pramodbhai Thakker, Neeraj Maheshbhai Patel, Parth Tusharbhai

Pathak and Hardik Bharatbhai Meisheri, we have come to know that a second project called

‘Urja-Sanrakshak’ by GTU alumni Jainil Bhatt, Dhruvin Kagdi, Tirth Jani and Kunjal Jadav is also

being telecast under the same program by ETNow. Thus two out of 24 projects, selected from all

over the country out of all the 78 technology Universities and other top-rated institutions of our

country, are from the Final Year projects of 2012 and 2013.

ETNow news channel conducted a nationwide contest for emerging innovators of India. Innovative

projects throughout the country were evaluated and top 24 innovations were selected for their display

on the tv show ‘Power of Shunya – Challenge for Zero’, sponsored by Du Pont.

Objective of this contest and show was to map the innovation quotient of the country, and to provide a

nationwide platform to most promising innovation. Top three innovations were awarded prize money of

Rs 10 lakhs, 5 lakhs and 2.5 lakhs respectively.

GTU alumni Jainil Bhatt, Dhruvin Kagdi, Tirth Jani and Kunjal Jadav, were selected amongst these top

24 teams of innovators. Their project was ‘Electricity-free LPG Refrigeration and Air-conditioning’. It

consists of a refrigerator and AC developed by the team, which utilizes the pressure energy of LPG flow

during various applications like cooking, automobiles, industrial processing, gas cutting, etc. This

prototype, named as ‘Urja-Sanrakshak’, does not consume LPG but just recovers its pressure energy,

which is being wasted otherwise. So it is truly a zero cost product, which requires no electricity to

produce cooling effect.

As a part of the competition, Jainil was coupled with Ankur Goyal, an MBA student from IIM

Ahmedabad, to develop a business plan and marketing strategies for the product.

In the first phase, a team from ETNow visited Ahmedabad to shoot the working prototype and to

interview Jainil and his technical guide. In the second phase, Jainil was invited to New Delhi, along with

all other participants for shooting the series.

The show was hosted by Mr. Gaurav Kapoor, and the jury members were:

1. Mr. Homi Bhedwar, Technology Director, South Asia and ASEAN, Du Pont

2. Mrs. Vani Kola, Managing Director, Kalaari Capital

3. Mr. Rajeev Karwal, Founder and CEO, Milagrow Business and Knowledge Solutions

4. Mr. Harish Hande, MD and Co-Founder, SELCO India

All 24 teams presented their innovations and business plans in front of the jury. Top 3 innovations were

selected to be the final winners.

The show is being telecast every Saturday at 6:30 pm and repeat telecast on every Sunday 11:00 am and

6:00 pm on ETNow channel.

Episode No. 8 containing Jainil’s innovation will be broadcast on Saturday, 30th November 6:30 pm

and on Sunday, 1st December 11:00 am and 6:00 pm.

Brief Introduction of the Innovation:

Idea and Concept:

Petroleum gas is stored in liquefied state before its utilization as fuel. The energy spent for

pressurizing and liquefying it is not recovered afterwards. If it is expanded in an evaporator, it will get

vaporized and absorb heat to produce cooling.

This property has been used for refrigeration and air–conditioning. So that the liquefied form of LPG

can be used for cooling and the expanded gas (LPG) can be further used for combustion as a fuel.

Working principle and process:

LPG is extracted at high pressure in liquefied state from the storage device. Its pressure and flow

rate is controlled by a valve connects it to the evaporator at requisite pressure in requisite

quantity.

An evaporator is housed through which LPG flows. It gets converted from liquefied state to

gaseous state and expands. So it absorbs heat in the form of latent heat. Due to this process,

heat from surrounding is absorbed so cooling effect is produced.

This effect is magnified by an evaporator. A network of pipes containing gas is covered by thin

and closely spaced fins which help in effective and fast cooling. The insulating material helps in

storing the cooling effect for a longer period of time.

The LPG leaves the evaporator in gaseous form; it is then directed towards the burner, engine,

or any other application where it is to be used. Thus, no LPG is consumed for cooling purpose.

Advantages and Applications:

Cooling is free of cost as no electricity is needed for operating the air conditioner and

refrigerator.

LPG is not consumed during cooling process, only expanded and further used for cooking, as

automobile fuel or for any industrial purposes.

The product is a green technology and is eco- friendly, as if eliminates the use of ozone-

depleting refrigerants.

The system can universally be used in industrial central cooling and domestic refrigeration and

air-conditioning as well.

It can be used in automobiles running on LPG or other Gaseous fuels for air-conditioning.

On the other hand the technology if implemented in heavy utility vehicles or transportation, it

would help in distant transportation of eatables as the refrigeration system inside the vehicle

and the cost of running the vehicle can be borne simultaneously.

Cooling and storage of essentials in remote areas and in emergency vehicles, such as storage of

essential bio-chemicals, injections, etc in an ambulance, is easily possible.

It can be used for zero cost air-conditioning of spaces like airports, shopping malls, etc which

have their own gas turbine power-plants.
