Record Books are one of the most beneficial experiences you can have in 4-H! What is a record book you
ask? This is the place where a 4-Her records his or hers’ 4-H experience for the past year.
Record Books teach record keeping skills, writing and computer skills, planning and goal setting.
Much of the information in them is beneficial when applying for scholarships, awards, positions and more.
The Due Date for recordbooks this year Monday, JUNE 18th, the same day as awards applications and ambas-
sador applications! County recordbook judging will be Friday, June 22 at the Guadalupe County Extension

Summer 2018 FCS Project Workshops, Clothing and Foods
P A G E 9 G U A D A L U P E C O U N T Y 4 - H G A Z E T T E
This year for food challenge there will be 2 options for your kids to participate. Please
read carefully.
OPTION ONE:
You will organize your own team, select your leader/coach and set your own practice
dates. It is my understand that the state guidelines for the 2018-2019 will say that teams
can only be 3-4 kids so please organize your teams around that information.
A Food Challenge coaches training will be offered on Monday, August 27th at the
Agrilife Office, 210 E. Live Oak, Seguin, at 6:30 pm.
To use a kit from the Extension office, you will need to pay a $50 deposit. You will get
your money back when the kit is returned completely stocked with everything on the
supply box list. The kit must be checked by either Charla or Matt when returned for
you to be eligible for the refund.
You are welcome to practice at the Extension office – keys can be checked out.
If you would like some examples of recipes for practice, please email me so I can send
you some examples.
You will need to work out as a team how you will fund your food for practice.
Team names and team member names are due to Extension office by Friday, September
21st so we know how many teams to plan for county contest.
Charla and/or Matt are available on request to assist a team.
After the county Food Challenge contest, Matt and Charla would like to practice with
the 6 teams advancing to district.
This option allows you to select your own team members, control when you practice and
how often you practice and individualize your team.
OPTION TWO:
Mrs. Moore will continue to meet with kids that can meet after school in Marion.
If you chose to be on a team and practice in Marion each person will be charged $25 to
cover keeping kits updated, food for practice and snacks.
Please call (830-305-4732) or email ([email protected]) Mrs. Moore if you plan
to plan to be on a team and practice in Marion by August 20th.
There will again be 2 days of practice in Marion. First practice dates will be September
4th and 5th. Once you sign up with Mrs. Moore, she will let you know which date and

time your team will be practicing.
After the county Food Challenge contest, Matt and Charla would like to practice with
the 6 teams advancing to district.
Last year we had 20 Food Challenge teams in Guadalupe County so that means we have
LOTS of kids and leaders/parents with experience. This is a great opportunity for youth to
pick their own teams, recruit their friends so we have new members and show their lead-
ership skills. We also currently have 10 senior age 4-H members who would make great
teen leaders. I look forward to working with everyone as we move forward in the Food
and Nutrition project.
Dates to Note:
Guadalupe County Food Challenge coaches training – Monday, August 27th at 6:30 pm
County Food Challenge and Food Show entry date – Monday, October 29th

lenge contests will be required to pay the $50 deposit to check out a Food Chal-
