McCormick First Baptist in the Lakelands Association and First Bethany Baptist in the Edgefield Association have

teamed up with help from various community organizations to host this event.

We have been asked for volunteers from our Association

from the following categories.

1. Nurses or EMT’s that could check blood pressures and A1C levels outside the main medical unit. Need about 6 or 7.

2. Men with strong backs to help pack all the Block Party

trailer items (especially the inflatables) back in to the trailer at the

end of the event. Our volunteers are usually so exhausted, this is the hardest part.

If you fit either of these two categories and are willing

to volunteer please contact Rev. John Alexander at

“Nothing Ever Stays the Same”

Why is it that the older one gets the faster time seems to fly? I

thought when I was younger, time slowed down to a crawl for

older folks. I mean, they always seem to have time on their

hands to show you pics and talk forever about their grands.

Well, little did I know that adding many years of living doesn’t

slow time down, it only makes time speed up. And the older one

gets the faster time seems to go. I’m not old yet…even though

on my next birthday, my wife and family are going to make a big

deal about the fact that I’ll be turning sixty…but compared to

some, shoot…I’m still wet behind the ears…a mere babe as it

were! But unfortunately, I do find myself showing pics and

talking longer about my grands and telling folks how special

they are...so in a sense, I guess I am getting old after all.

Speaking of grands, you used to have to endure grandparents

breaking out their wallet and showing a few pics of their grands,

and they seemed to be able to talk on and on about them

grands even with the few pics their wallets would hold. But

today, good grief, we grandparents have iPhones that hold

thousands of pics. I so feel sorry for the younger generation as

they endure a grandma or grandpa with an iPhone or Facebook

page full of pics of their grandkids. One thing is for sure,

nothing ever stays the same…from wallets full of pics to now

iPhones full of pics…yikes. The good thing is that now I am one

of them grandparents with an iPhone full of pics and younger

folks have to endure me…just say’n.

Speaking of grands…I know, I’m starting to sound like a broken

record aren’t I? Last month I wanted to say something about

what I’m getting ready to say something about, but I was

expressly forbidden to say anything about it. Yep, you guessed

it; Kim and I are going to get our fifth grand in as many years.

Man oh man…Katelyn is pregnant with her fourth young’n.

What the world, at this rate, even my iPhone isn’t going to hold

all the pics of those kiddos…and I can’t wait to whip it out and

bore you to tears showing you all the pics that it will hold…

cause my grands are way mo’special than any other grand-

parent’s grand-young’ns are…and yes, I did just say that. Yep,

another grand is on the way…cause apparently, nothing ever

stays the same, especially not in Zack and Katelyn’s home!

Speaking of grands…I know, here I go again…I finally

completed Phase 1 of the grandchildren’s three story tree

house in my backyard. Phase 1 you see is the three story tree

house. Phase 2 will be a twelve foot bridge that goes across

from the third story of the Phase 1 part of the tree house to

Phase 3, which will be an adult area complete with porch

swings and a fire pit. I know, it’s crazy, but hey, my grands are

special…and if you don’t believe me…just ask me and I’ll whip

out my iPhone and convince you otherwise. I figure if my

chickens get a Tahj-Mahal chicken coop, as it’s been referred

to, my special grands ought to get a tree house that is at least a

cut above the chicken coop that adorns our backyard. Okay, so

maybe I am overdoing it with Phase 1, 2 and 3, but since

nothing ever stays the same, I figure this might be my last shot

at a tree house for the ages.

Now I know you’s wondering if this is going to be my fifth

granddaughter or am I finally going to get my first grandson.

Well, I have already determined that his name shall be…wait

for it…wait for it…his name shall be…Leonard. Yeah I know,

my powers of prophecy are about non-existent so instead of

Leonard, he’s probably going to pop out as a Lenora or Lena or

Lynda or Luciana or whatever! So be it, I have finally learned to

be content in whatever state I find myself, as the Apostle Paul

exhorted us to do. Learning to be content I guess comes with

age. But the way things never stay the same, this one could be

the deal breaker…the lone boy of the bunch…I just gots that

feeling about this one…just say’n!

Speaking of things never staying the same, there are some big

changes coming around here soon. As most of you know, the

Association was trying to sell and relocate our office building

over six years ago. But it was also at that time that the

Association was served nine lawsuits over the sexual

misconduct case that occurred between 1998 and 2000. During

the ensuing years while we were being litigated against, the

plaintiff’s attorney put a lien on all of our property, ultimately

preventing us from selling our property during the nearly five

years that we were involved in the lawsuits. But now that all of

that is over with, we can proceed with the relocation as

previously planned.

Again, as you are aware, Abney Memorial Baptist Church has

graciously gifted to the Association 2.25 acres of land adjacent

to their present facilities on Hwy 225. The land has been

surveyed and is currently titled in the name of the Lakelands

Baptist Association. We will be forever grateful to Abney

Memorial for this generous act of kindness towards the

Association.

So, the Association will be hosting a Building the Future

Together Kick-off BBQ on 12 August at Abney Memorial in

order for those who attend to see exactly where the new office

is going to be located. Also at this event, the architectural

drawings of the new office will be unveiled. This event will be

open to anyone in the Association who desires to be a part of

the future of the Association. I hope you will put this date on

your calendar and plan to be a part of this exciting next step for

the Association. Yep, nothing ever stays the same! As such, the

future for the Association is now! Hope you will join us for this

event!

And BTW, I do have pics of my grands if you want to see

them…here, let me get out my iPhone…just say’n!

Page 4: Guest Speaker Gary Rogersimages.acswebnetworks.com/2013/122/JuneJuly20192.pdf · swings and a fire pit. I know, it’s crazy, but hey, my grands are special…and if you don’t believe

Jesus Christ was with God the Father before the world was created. He

became human and lived among humanity as Jesus of Nazareth. He came to

show us what God the Father is like. He lived a sinless life, showing us how

to live, and He died on a cross to pay for our sins. God raised Him from the

dead. Jesus is the source of eternal life. Jesus wants to be the doorway of new

life for you. In the Bible, He was called “Lamb of God” (John 1:29). In the

Old Testament, sacrifices were made for the sins of the people. Jesus became

the sacrificial Lamb offered for our sin. Jesus said, “I am the way and the

truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John

14:6). He is waiting for you now.

Admit to God that you are a sinner. Repent, turning away from your sin.

By faith, receive Jesus Christ as God’s Son and accept Jesus’ gift of

forgiveness by dying on the cross.

Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

You may pray a silent prayer similar to this as you call on God to save you.

“Dear God, I know that You love me. I confess my sin and need of salvation. I

turn away from my sin and place my faith in Jesus as my Savior and Lord. In

Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.” After you have received Jesus Christ into your

life, tell a pastor or another Christian about your decision. Show others your

faith in Christ by asking for a baptism by immersion in your local church as a

public expression of your faith.
