Paul Allam USPTA Pro 1 Paul Allam has been coaching tennis for the past 25 years in Europe, the Middle East, Australia and the United States. Paul is a USTA High Performance Coach and is a certified coach with Tennis Coaches Australia and the Lawn Tennis Association in the United Kingdom. Paul is currently the Director of Tennis at Pacific Athletic Club in Redwood City, Calif., which received “Club of the Year” honors in 2005 for Northern California from both the USTA and USPTA. One of Paul’s main passions is working with young junior players using the QuickStart Tennis Program format to help them develop a lifelong love of the game. Tom Daglis Tom Daglis is the director of tennis and fitness operations at the pres- tigious Lakewood Country Club in Rockville, Md. A USPTA Master Professional, Daglis has been actively involved in the tennis industry for more than 25 years. Da- glis is currently an elected member of the USPTA national Board of Directors and its president. He holds an M.S. degree from Ferris State University in Career and Technical Education. Mark Fairchilds Mark Fairchilds has been director of tennis at Modesto Fitness & Racket Club in Modesto, Calif., since 1991. He became a member in 1987 and began serving on the NorCal Division Board in 1992, becoming president in 1998. Fairchilds was the USPTA NorCal Pro of the Year in 2003 and Inside Tennis North- ern California Men’s Open Player of the past 25 years in 2006. Fairchilds is not only a USPTA National Board Member, but is also the chairman of the Tournament and Budget Com- mittee, and USPTA liaison to IHRSA. Courtney Gaine Courtney Gaine is currently a consultant to the food industry, specializing in evaluating and translating nutrition research and nutrition policy. She was a basketball player at the University of Connecticut from where she graduated with a degree in dietetics, as well as a doctorate in nutritional science with a concen- tration in molecular and cellular biology. Prior to working as a consultant, she was an assistant professor in the Department of Exercise and Sports Science at East Carolina University. Gaine has published several peer-reviewed articles, has given numerous presentations relating to diet, exercise and metabolism and was a consultant for several collegiate athletic programs. Tom Gullikson During his career as a player, Tom Gullikson won 16 top-level doubles titles – 10 of them with his identical twin brother, Tim Gullikson. The broth- ers were runners-up in the men’s doubles competition at Wimbledon in 1983. His career-high rankings were world’s No. 34 in singles and No. 9 in doubles (both in 1984). Gullikson then became one of the original members of the USTA Player De- velopment Program, coaching players such as Todd Martin, Jennifer Capriati and Andy Roddick. He was the U.S. Davis Cup captain from 1994 to 1999, and in 1996, Gullikson coached the U.S. men’s Olympic tennis team. Rodney Harmon Rodney Harmon is one of three African-Americans to reach the singles quarterfinals at the US Open (1982). He was an NCAA doubles cham- pion in 1980 for the University of Tennessee, three-time NCAA All-American se- lection and later helped Southern Methodist University reach the NCAA finals in 1983. Harmon received the Big East Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year award in 1996 and 1997. He was the Head Men’s Tennis Coach for Team USA at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. He currently is the Director of Tennis at the Deerwood Country Club in Jacksonville, Fla. AccommodationsThe Boar’s Head is this year’s hotel. It’s located at 200 Ednam Drive,

Charlottesville, VA 22903. The USPTA rate is $135 per room, per night. The cutoff date to reserve a room at the above rate is February 11. Call 800-476-1988 for reservations and remember to ask for the USPTA rate. If you would like to reserve online, please go to www.boarsheadinn.com and on the home page, select your dates and then “book now.” This will prompt you to another page, where you will select “Group” in the second box (drop down box) where it currently reads “Negotiated Rate.” When selecting group, this will prompt you for a code, your code will be USTAM. Prize-money tournamentThis year’s prize-money tournament will include men’s open doubles,

men’s 45-and-over doubles and women’s open doubles. The entry fee is $50 per team. Prize money will be dependent upon the number of players in the tournament.

Drill Exchanges & Program Exchanges This year the convention will again feature drill exchanges, which are open to all convention attendees. Each participant will be given five minutes to explain and present his or her drill. Please bring 40 copies of your drill or exchange to distribute to fellow pros during your presentation. The winners will be determined by majority vote of convention attendees. The drill exchange winner will receive a bag of tricks (courtesy of Oncout Offcourt), and the program exchange winner will receive a case of balls. Bring your best drill and program ideas! New for 2011- Program/Brochure exchange. Please bring 40 copies of your brochure and be ready to explain some of the programs you administer to your fellow professionals. A great way to get new programming ideas and new ways to promote your programs.

Cardio Tennis Feeding Shootout This competition will again be modified and will challenge the USPTA pro with new target areas. This event allows teaching pros to demonstrate the accuracy and speed of their feeds for 60 seconds. Pros will be asked to feed tennis balls in a specific pattern to three targets for one minute. The pro who feeds the most balls into the targets will be the shootout winner. The winner will receive $100 from the TIA and an additional $200 from USPTA Mid-Atlantic to compete in the National shootout at the 2011 World Conference at Saddlebrook Resort in Florida and a shot at the $300 in prize money. The second place divisional finisher will receive a case of Pro Penn Balls.

Manufacturers trade show As one of the largest tennis vendor exhibits held in the Central Virginia area, there will be many vendors from various segments of the industry to showcase their products here. Hit with the latest racquets, see the newest technology and talk to company representatives. Also, this will be a great time to order apparel and shoes for your team or stock your pro shop.Meet and greet vendors at the Friday night welcome party, and see them the next morning at the show. The show begins Saturday at 8 a.m and ends at 1 p.m. The cost to participate in the show is $120 and space is limited. Sunday awards raffle: We know taking time away from teaching to attend the conference weekend is costly. As an added incentive, we will be giving away a day’s worth of lesson revenue ($300) to five lucky professionals. Drawing will be after the awards breakfast on Sunday, you must have at-tended the entire weekend and be present to win.
