AIMS OF THE GUIDANCE & COUNSELING PROGRAM

Counselor’s Role: To assist
students to distribute their energies
into many learning opportunities
available to them.

Counselor’s Role: Help students to
resolve their difficulties, and if
possible, educational intervention
suited for each student.

development, and they can help

accurately reflect the needs of

technical assistance

• ASSESSMENT SERVICE Collect, analyze, and use a variety of objective and subjective personal, psychological, and social data about the student. Standardized test scores, academic records, anecdotal records, personal data forms, portfolios included.
• INFORMATION SERVICEProvide accurate and current information in order that the students may make an intelligent choice of an educational program, an occupation, or a social activity.
• COUNSELING SERVICEFacilitate self – understanding and
personal development.

• STUDENT INVENTORY RECORDA continuous process of accumulating, recording and utilizing the information on each student for guidance and counseling purposes and obtaining a complete picture of the individual. Repository of student information through the years.
• PLACEMENT AND FOLLOW-UP SERVICES Students are assisted for their educational placement as well as employment opportunities. (Placement) Development of systematic plan for maintaining contact with former students and conduct follow-up studies to aid the school in evaluating the school’s curricular and guidance program. (Follow-up)
• REFERRAL SERVICEProvides information on other services that may be able to meet higher or lower levels of need that are outside the guidance & counseling program.Expertise or specialization is beyond the functions of professional guidance counselors.
• CONSULTATION SERVICECounselors act as consultants.Deals exclusively with work-related or student service issues, but not personal concerns.Services are available to any academic department or administrative unit, as well as any staff, faculty , or student organization.
• RESEARCHConducting surveys of student needs, problems and concerns, student services, developmental programs, etc. Evaluation of curricular and extra-curricular activities including Guidance & Counseling program. Dissemination of Research Findings.
• STUDENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMFacilitate student transitions into the academic and social communities. Promote student growth and leadership opportunities.Give student self – direction.Promote personal development and empowerment.
