Delta Phi Epsilon International Sorority | 251 South Camac Street | Philadelphia, PA 19107

www.dphie.org

Dear Sister,

Greetings from the International Headquarters of Delta Phi Epsilon. On behalf of the International Governing Board and Educational Foundation Board of Directors, thank you for taking your time to meet with our representative. There truly is no better time to make a gift to impact the futures of women across the country. Your thoughtful gift is an investment in tomorrow’s leaders. It will pay dividends far into the future.

As you look through this packet detailing the academic and professional opportunities Delta Phi Epsilon provides for its membership, I hope you will see the value of our programs. Hundreds of women have felt the generosity of donations. From the International Leadership Forum, to the individual scholarships that often makes it possible for a member to continue their education. We take pride in the leadership development and education opportunities we can fund because of donors like you. In 2019, Delta Phi Epsilon embarked on a new strategic plan, Second Century Success. A major initiative of this plan is advocacy. During a time when we face an existential crisis, DPhiE is developing messages and trainings for our members that empower them to advocate for the fraternal experience. The skills taught in advocacy will raise the bar for womankind. Through funding programs like the “Hill Visits,” we can continue to send several of our members to join hundreds of Panhellenic sisters in Washington D.C. to lobby for vital legislation for the fraternal movement, including the College Housing and Infrastructure Act (CHIA). Our programming ensures that society hears our members’ voices while visiting Capitol Hill. This is just one example of how DPhiE is engaged in our principles of Justice, Sisterhood and Love, at the core. If, after you review the information contained in this packet, you continue to have questions or would like a deeper conversation about our strategies and plans, please do not hesitate to reach out. It is my hope that as an alumnae, you will see the value in DPhiE as you once did as an undergraduate, but with a different urgency and lens. Your gift is critical to the continuation of the programs that help prepare members of Delta Phi Epsilon to become the leaders of the future. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Sororally,

Nicole L. DeFeo International Executive Director Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority, Educational Foundation & National Development Corporation

LEADERSHIP & STRATEGIC INITIATIVE

TEAM EXCELLENCE

As the Delta Phi Epsilon International Headquarters sought to incorporate a more synergistic and innovative infrastructure with-in chapters, we looked to a team-based model in sorority leadership. Team Excellence invites every active member to take part in the operations of their chapter. This level of engagement stimulates leadership and management skills, and increases involve-ment, commitment and chapter participation by each member. By emphasizing self-governance, Team Excellence affords members the opportunity to engage in the decision-making process and share in the responsibilities and rewards of those decisions. Team Excellence is a value to every member in a chapter. This model helps sisters develop transferrable skills, which are important elements in building professional resumes for a competitive job market. Team Excellence challenges our members to advance the vision of our founders; to inspire and empower our sister-hood to engage in a lifetime of leadership and service.

CHAPTER ADVISORY BOARD (CAB)

Volunteers on chapter advisory boards help embed a legacy of power and strength within the lives of all sisters. Our members thrive through volunteer guidance, and our leaders strengthen our sorority through their mentorship. DPhiE needs engaging alumnae with the talents, wisdom and energy to help support the mission of providing a sisterhood experience rich in tradition, innovation and opportunities for growth. Chapter advisor is a volunteer position that is vital to a positive sisterhood experience. Advisors provide guidance and mentorship to members and leadership teams in several areas of operations. IHQ provides CAB members with the training they need, online or in-person, in areas including operations, programming, recruitment, member-ship, academics, sisterhood and house management. The talent management services at IHQ update and create programs to ensure that each chapter, and their volunteers, receive the tools they need to continue to develop.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION INITIATIVE

In the summer of 2018, The International Governing Board formed The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force. From their efforts, Delta Phi Epsilon announced a pioneering policy on the inclusion of Trans women and gender non-binary individuals. This policy reflects DPhiE’s commitment to antidiscrimination of its members (active and alumnae), potential new members, volunteers and staff. Through this initiative, DPhiE established a safe environment, welcoming and free from stigma regardless of sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity or gender expression.

Delta Phi Epsilon encourages the fostering of a diverse organization. Our leaders understand the importance of embracing diversity by learning about different cultures and participating in advocacy work that allows society to hear the voices of all in-dividuals. Through understanding the importance of diversity and inclusion, our members learn about themselves and become well-rounded individuals, prepared to lead a society that welcomes all life experiences.

INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONSULTANT

PROVIDE CAREER GROWTH

The ILC program provides recent graduates with opportunities to complete intensive training in preparation for personal and professional development in their role. Their task is to support the growth of Delta Phi Epsilon’s chapters in the areas of operations, new member education, organizational growth, leadership development, and heritage and traditions. This program emphasizes transferable skill building, and is a call-to-action for individuals that want to work hard and make a difference in the lives of others. International Leadership Consultants are change agents. They are professional Delta Phi Epsilon women that lead by example, challenge the status quo, ask tough questions and spread the principles of Justice, Sisterhood and Love.

ILCs experience a wide variety of professional development opportunities. These include leadership development, facilitation, project management, member recruitment, critical thinking, conflict management, resiliency, problem solving, fiscal responsibility and time management. ILCs also become experienced business travelers, public speakers and coaches. Additionally, as part of their position, they receive intensive in-person training multiple times a year, personal and professional development opportunities and other benefits associated with the role. These talented women are ready to take on challenging professions or rigorous graduate education once the program concludes.

Now entering its second year, in 2019, the completion rate of ILC applications rose to over 50 percent. For members that are interested in attending graduate school, working as an ILC is a great way for to visit different colleges and universities. Additionally, members build a variety of skills and network with professionals across many industries. From student affairs to medical school, to politics and education, previous staff have attributed this professional experience as a key factor in preparing them for their current careers.

Recent graduates who want to apply for this opportunity must be a Delta Phi Epsilon member in good standing. Moreover, each candidate must have leadership experience through on campus activities or work. The ILCs are a vital part of the success of the DPhiE sisterhood and the growth of our future leaders. As the program continues to grow, donations become a vital part of its success. The Educational Foundation helps offset the cost of this innovative and intense program as well as all travel expenses incurred while they conduct sorority business. To make your contribution to this program you can designate your gift to the International Leadership Consultant Program Fund.

PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

ENGAGE U

Engage U is a regional operations training program that provides resources and workshops for members and volunteers. Different chapters across the country host the one-day event each semester. The locations change each semester to ensure that all members can experience Engage U. On average, Engage U reaches more than 800 attendees every year.

Programming for Engage U includes intense interactive sessions where sisters challenge themselves and learn to improve the functionality and membership experience within their chapters. Through each session, members choose which workshops to attend to improve themselves both professionally and personally. Sessions include: • Justice, Sisterhood and Love is a session where members review the areas of

operations that reflect our values of Justice, Sisterhood and Love.• Leadership for a Lifetime delves into leadership as a conceptual subject showing participants

that leadership is fluid, it grows and we grow and gives to us as we give to others.• Operations is where members learn about the chapter assessment program (CAP) and how it

is an organizational tool to help grow and build a successful chapter. Participants leave knowing their organizations areas of strengths and weaknesses, and ways improve them.

• Recruitment touches on the best practices around recruiting new members into DPhiE. This session’s mission is to facilitate the growth and strategy about recruiting through authenticity by communicating DPhiE’s community principles and values.

INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP FORUM (ILF)

The International Leadership Forum is a biennial convention. Sisters from around the world come together to make memories and celebrate our sorority. In addition to this special time where sisters and supporters of DPhiE come together, the ILF provides attendees with renowned, mission-driven programming focused solely on becoming your best self. Experts and professionals from specific fields facilitate the programming to provide sisters with a wealth of development. In fact, all the programming at ILF is interdisciplinary and transcends generational differences between our members and DPhiE constituents. Set your calendars to join us in Orlando, Florida as Disney World hosts the 2020 International Leadership Forum.

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Delta Phi Epsilon sustains its founders’ legacy through a commitment to education and promoting women as leaders, scholars and innovators. Scholarships play a key role in the ability of many members to achieve their dreams of completing their formal education. To encourage the success and accessibility of education for our sisters, The Delta Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation provides merit and need-based scholarships. In 2018, the Educational Foundation awarded 36 scholarships worth a total of $100K. The foundation’s current scholarships include:

• The Madeleine Claire McNulty Scholarship- Established to commemorate the daughter of former International President Dawn Barta McNulty. This scholarship supports a sorority member who has overcome a medical, personal or family difficulty.

• The Dr. Toby Tamarkin Scholarship- The scholarship is endowed by the Tamarkin family, in partnership with the foundation, to provide scholarships and personal development workshops to the DPhiE sisterhood, both active members and alumnae.

• The Arleen Kruger Honick Scholarship- Named for one of our sisterhood’s most prolific leaders, volunteers and supporters. This scholarship, first awarded in 2018, honors Arleen for her dedication to DPhiE through volunteering and serving as past international president.

Making a gift to the educational foundation is a wonderful way to live DPhiE’s core values of providing a sisterhood experience rich with tradition, innovation and opportunities for growth and inspiring and empowering our sisterhood to engage in a lifetime of leadership and service. It is through your generous donations that DPhiE is able to provide members with exciting opportunities to defray the costs associated with education. Additionally, with each gift our donors make, they have the opportunity to join our annual giving society, “The Minna” and “The Ida,” while working towards membership as a top donor in our lifetime giving society.
