“Copyright includes the legal conditions under which information can and cannot be used. It is essential that students understand the legal implication of information management and use” (Stanley 97).

Our role as Library Media Specialists is to nurture responsible research skills.

One important aspect of research is learning and using correct citation. We believe it isnever too early to teach responsibility for citing materials correctly.

There are many forms for citations. This document will standardize the correctciting of materials on all grade levels. Each year is built on the previous year and is

consistent with the MLA format. For ease and use, this document is divided into three

parts focusing on the primary, middle and high school student. By the time a studentgraduates from Mountain Lakes High School, he or she will have a foundation as a

productive and responsible information user.
