Guidelines for Applicants for the Selection Examination for the English Program

The applicants who successfully pass this examination may enroll in October 2014. 1. Admission Policy

The International Relations and Regional Studies Course seeks students who have a keen interest in international issues and multiculturalism and who possess the practical foreign language skills to pursue their studies. The International Studies Program has been established for students who wish to take classes in English and, thereby, to improve their linguistic and international communication skills. The Course curriculum is designed to expose students to a variety of different issues facing humankind under rapidly changing, complex circumstances and to consider the solution of these problems facing the international community from diverse regional and global perspectives. In addition, the International Relations and Regional Studies Course seeks to assist its students in developing a highly effective international skill set to prepare them for future careers in fields involving international relations. Students encouraged to apply include those who already have some background and knowledge of international relations, political economy, comparative politics, and/or regional cultures.

2. The number to be admitted: a few students 3. Qualifications for applying

Those who fall under any of the following categories shall qualify. As to the second peoriod application, only foreign and Japanese applicants who live in Japan will be accepted.

(1) A person who graduated from a university overseas or is expected to graduate by September 30, 2014

(2) A person recommended by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (3) A person recognized as having academic skills equivalent to or higher than those qualifying for the

application specified above by the Graduate Schools of Human and Socio-Environmental Studies

[Note] In the event of (3), the following candidates will be recognized as qualifying through individual screening. Persons who qualify for special admission to the third year of university, are aged 22 or older at the time of admission, and fall within any of the following categories: (a) A person who has studied in an advanced course at junior college or technical college after

having qualified for special admission to university (b) A person who has work experience or other experience in activities with international

organizations and other institutions in an overseas country (c) A foreign student who has been in a graduate school or a school of Kanazawa University as a

research student for a given period and has sufficient academic skills to qualify for the master’s course of the Graduate Schools of Human and Socio-Environmental Studies

4. Preliminary examination of qualifications

Those who would like to apply under 3.(3)(a), 3.(3)(b), or 3.(3)(c) above are asked to submit the following materials to Kanazawa University, Graduate School of Human and Socio-Environmental Studies, Office of Student Affairs for the individual preliminary examination of qualifications by June 5, 2014 (Thu). When submitting materials by mail, the "Application for Preliminary Examination of Qualifications, Graduate School of Human and Socio-Environmental Studies (Master’s Level Section)” should be written in red on

self-stamped with 792-yen in postage [registered express mail]) Note 1: The candidates will be notified of the results by the middle of June 2014. Any materials

submitted will not be returned. Note 2: Certificates and documents issued by foreign schools or organizations must be submitted with

a Japanese version and a briefing document.

Fill in the form designated by the Graduate School of Human and Socio-Environmental Studies and attach two identical passport-type photos (taken in the past three months, no hat, full face and shoulders, with plain background, 4 cm H x 3 cm W) each to the specified spaces on the form.

(8) Certificate of remittance

When overseas remittances are planned, you must ask us by the E-mail ([email protected]) early.

Pay the entrance examination fee of 30,000 yen through a bank transfer (telegraphic transfer).

Fill in the payment slip attached to these guidelines and pay the specified amount at a bank that handles telegraphic transfers, such as banks, city banks, credit unions, agricultural cooperatives, and fisheries cooperatives (excluding post offices).

The handling charge will be borne by the applicants. (In the case of transfer from the head office or a branch office of our designated bank (Hokuriku Bank), the handling charge will not be required).

After payment, applicants will receive the Receipt and Certificate of

(10) Return envelope Attach a 362-yen stamp (express mail) on a self-addressed envelope.

[Note] Applicants qualifying under 3.(3)(c) do not need to submit the above listed materials 5.(2), 5.(3), and 5.(6).

6. Application procedure

(1) Applicants should submit all application materials together. (2) When submitting application materials by mail, they should be sent by registered mail, with

“Application for the Graduate School of Human and Socio-Environmental Studies (Master’s Level Section)” written in red on the front of the envelope.

entrance examination.

7. Selection method (1) Written examination

Special subject: Examinees should choose two out of four questions (two in International Relations and two in Regional Studies in America and Britain).

(2) Oral examination Oral examination will be conducted on the subject chosen by the examinee in written examination based on the contents of the submitted research plan document and the graduation theses or an alternative research report.

8. Application for a short-term visa

Applicants should pay special attention to the following points if applying for a short-term visa with the Japanese embassy or Japanese consulate in their country to take the entrance examination.

(1) The Graduate School of Human and Socio-Environmental Studies cannot issue the documents

required for the issuance of a visa, such as a letter of personal reference, a schedule of stay, a statement of reason for the invitation, or a guarantor’s certificate of employment.

(2) If an applicant is not able to acquire a shot-term visa for the entrance examination after following the examination application procedure, the examination fee will not be returned. Please confirm the requirements for acquisition of a short-term visa well in advance at the Japanese embassy or Japanese consulate.

University more than one semester and are excellent in both academics and personality.

Grant amount 180,000 yen per year or 90,000 yen per semester. Award payment duration During enrollment period.

12. Admission and Tuition Fees (1) Admission Fee: ¥282,000; Tuition: ¥267,900 (for the first semester, or ¥535,800 for two semesters);

and Accident Insurance: ¥1,750 (for two years). Admission and Tuition Fees may change in accordance with circumstance.

(2) Notice: Following submission, applications cannot be modified or withdrawn and fees are nonrefundable. If an application is found to contain false statements, admission may be canceled. In that case, admission fees, once paid, are not refunded for any reason. Applicants are advised to make sure that the date for the admission procedures is strictly followed. If successful applicants fail to follow the admission procedures by that date, they will be considered to have declined their admission.

本選抜による合格者は 2014年（平成 26年）10月に入学します。

１．学生受入方針（アドミッション・ポリシー）

国際関係・地域研究コースでは，国際社会の諸問題や異文化への強い関心と，実践的な外国語の運用能力を有

する人を求めています。本プログラムでは英語による授業を中心に履修を希望する学生（英語教育プログラム

<International Studies Program>の履修学生）を募集します。

国際関係･地域研究コースでは，外国語コミュニケーション能力をいっそう高めながら，グローバルな視野か

ら人間と社会についての普遍的な真実を探究するとともに，激変する複雑な社会状況の下で諸国民が直面する多

様な問題の解決策を考察するカリキュラムにより，国際関係業務において貢献しうる人材を養成する教育を行い

ます。したがって，国際政治経済，比較政治，各地域の文化等の専門知識を有する人を求めています。

３．出願資格

次の各号のいずれかに該当する者とします。

(1) 外国において大学を卒業した者及び 2014年(平成 26年)9月 30日までに卒業見込みの者

(2) 文部科学省の推薦する者

(3) 本研究科において，前述の出願資格に定める者と同等以上の学力があると認めた者【注】(3)において，個別審査により出願資格が認められる者は次のとおりです。

大学に３年次編入の資格があり，入学時点で 22歳に達するもので次のいずれかに該当する者

(a) 大学編入学資格取得後，さらに短期大学又は高等専門学校の専攻科等における学習歴を有する者

(b) 実務経験や海外における国際的団体等での活動経験を有する者

(c) 外国人留学生で，研究科又は本学学類研究生として所定の期間在学し，本研究科修士課程に出願

するに足りる学力を有すると認められる者

本選抜による合格者は 2014年（平成 26年）10月に入学します。

国際関係・地域研究コースでは，国際社会の諸問題や異文化への強い関心と，実践的な外国語の運用能力を有

入学検定料 30,000円を銀行振込「電信扱」で納入してください。

本要項に添付の振込依頼書に必要事項を記入の上，「電信扱」を取り扱う銀行，

信用金庫，信用組合，農協，漁協等の金融機関(郵便局を除く)の窓口で納入し

てください。

振込手数料は，志願者負担となります。(本学指定金融機関である「北陸銀

行本支店」からの振り込みに限り振込手数料は不要です。)

納入後，「振込金証明書」に銀行領収印が押してあることを確認してください。

領収書は大切に保管してください。
