Guidelines to the myAPEL Test
Introduction
This guideline aims to provide information relating to the myAPEL Test. Learners are advised
to read and understand the terms and conditions stated in the guidelines before attempting
the myAPEL Test.
Generally, all information on myAPEL concerning guidelines, applications, status and results,
announcements and calendars are found on myAPEL Online menu. To access the myAPEL
Online, learners must go to their myVLE, select on e-Services and click on Undergraduate
Services & Support.
1. What is a myAPEL Test?
myAPEL Test is an assessment instrument used to assess if the learner is able to
demonstrate and meet the learning outcomes for a particular course through his/her
experiential learning.
The assessment will take the form of an online essay test. Learners are required to
answer questions related to the course based on their learning experience. The test will
evaluate the learners’ knowledge on important concepts and applications within the
stated learning outcomes of the course.
2. Who is eligible for the myAPEL Test?
A learner whose APEL application (for a specific course) has been approved by the
Faculty is automatically registered for the myAPEL Test. Only learners who are registered
are eligible to sit for the test.
Learners may check their application status from the APEL Status & Results: Application
found on the myVLE. (Go to myAPEL Online. Look for Status and Results, click on Application).

3. When will the myAPELTest be held?
The myAPEL Test is usually scheduled at the end of every semester. Information on the
test schedule is found on the myVLE. (Go to myAPEL Online. Look for Test Schedule).
Learners must first ensure that the course(s) they are registered for under APEL is stated
on the Test Schedule for the semester offered. Learners may decide on the date and
time for the test that are most convenient for them. The test will be conducted at the
OUM Learning Centre on the date and time provided.
4. How do I prepare for the Test? Are there any reference materials provided?
One of the principles behind the assessment of prior learning is that learners have
already acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through their work and life
experiences and that these prior learning is readily assessable. There will be no learning
materials or references provided for the test.
However, learners may refer to the stated course learning outcomes as an indication of
the area to be tested in the myAPEL Test. Learners must be aware of important concepts
and applications within the stated learning outcomes of the course.
5. I have applied for TWO courses under APEL. Does it mean I am eligible for BOTH test?
The application and approval for APEL are course specific. Only approved applications
are automatically registered for the myAPEL Test. For learners whose applications are
rejected, they must continue the course through the normal mode. Application does not
indicate automatic eligibility for the test.
6. Where do I take the myAPEL Test?
The myAPEL Test will be conducted at the OUM Learning Centres according to the Test
Schedule published for the particular semester.
