This is the default Gulf Coast Oil Slick website view.To move or zoom the map, click and drag on the map view and

use the zoom toolbar to the left. You can also zoom with yourmouse’s scroll wheel.

Click on any of the existing points to get a quick blurb about that point’s data. Clicking “View Detail” will open a new window with detailed information and any comments about the point. You can also hover over a point to see just the title. In the box on the right, click on a checkmark to turn that category on or off.

To view the progression of the oil slick, click the layers for each day on or off. You can turn on multiple days at a time to compare the extent of the dispersion on those days.

To add your own data point, scroll down and click “Login.” We’ve provided the username and password already, so just click Login again on the window the opens (you may need to turn off any pop-up blockers). Please note that we reserve the right to monitor, edit, and remove any data added to the site.

Next, enable the “Add points by Clicking on the Map” option, and then click anywhere on the map to begin. You may adjust your point selection by clicking on a new location. Once you’re satisfied with the location, click “Add New” to begin editing the properties of that point.

Clicking “Add New” will open a new window, where you can edit the Name, Date, and select a Category for your new point. You may also add comments, upload pictures, videos, and other files associated with the point. Once you are finished editing, click “Submit” and your point will appear on the map.
