WELCOME! To The Eleventh Season

Producer Guy S. Little, Jr. With the opening on d a y 20th of Barefoot

I n The Park starring Tab Hunter, Producer Guy S. Little, Jr. i s proud to begin his secold decade of llve theatre for central I l l i no~s audiences. Long before Mr. Little opened the Grand Theatre back in 1957, he hoped and planned that someday he would have a theatre where musicals and plays could be presented. He got his first job ln professional theatre a s an apprentice a t the Keene, New Hampshire Summer Theatre in 1951 and worked the two following summers a t the Gateway Musical Playhouse near Atlantic C i t ~

After graduation from the University of Mi- ami Mr. Little took graduate courses a t Colum- bia 'university and The America? Theatre Wing before returning to central Illinois in the sprlng of 1957 to look for a theatre location.

Not having success locating a suitable theatre in any of the larger cities in downstate Illinois, Mr. Little decided to lease the movie house in his native Sullivan. Since the opening of Brigadoon on July 3, 1957, Mr. Little has pre- sented 100 major productions-both plays and musicals-featuring many outstandin stars and supporting casts from Broadway, ~o l fywood , T V and Opera. The first season ran nine weeks and nad an attendance of 8,000. The Little Theatre- On The Square was open for twenty-five weeks last year and had an attendance of 80.000 . . . a most gratifying increase! I n addition to his productions in Sullivan. Mr. Little managed the Piccolo Playhouse in Joliet and has had touring productions that have played theatres in Michigan. Ohio and the Chicago area. Mr. Little i s often asked to open and manage other theatres in the midwest, but his devotion i s to The Little Theatre-On The Square and i ts loyal audiences. Mr. Little works around booking outstandln stars such a s Allyson, John Carradine, S e t e r Palmer, Rose- mary Prinz, Dennis Weaver, Robert Reed, John Payne, Margaret O'Brien Julia Meade Pat O'Brien, Linda Darnell. ~ a r i e Wilson, ' ~ d d i e Bracken, Joe E. Brown, Marjorie Lord, Margar- et Truman, Edward Everett Horton, Annamary Dickey, Jack Haskell, Margaret Hamilton and Cesar Romero.

Mr. Little has directed many of the pro- ductions, designed and built the scenery, and has appeared in many of the shows. Last season, in addltion to supervising all the productions, he ap eared a s Mr Snow in Carousel, Joe Tay- lor fr. in ~ l ~ e g r b Mr. Foley in Never Too ~ a i e and Michael' O'Neill in The Moon Is Blue.

Guy met his wife, Jerili, when they were both studying theatre at the University of Mi- aml. They have been married thirteen years and have .two children, Vanessa age eleven, and Sean, a e five. Both childre; have been active in the fullivan productions.

The operation of a star theatre for ten years in a town with a population of less than 4,000 has been called "the miracle of Sullivan" by theatre historians. Guy S. Little, Jr. gratefully salutes the faithful central Illinois audiences who have patronized The Little Theatre-On .
