Teenstudents can take the Cambridge FirstCertificate preparation program or, if theyare over 16 years, a General English classwith other international students from

HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC PREPARATIONGV Victorias High School Academic Preparation is a rigorous,demanding program designed to help prepare students to meetthe academic challenges they will face in Canadian high schools.The program includes academic writing, grammar review, academic
speaking and listening, academic study skills, presentation skills, andresearch skills.
Afternoon elective classes supplement the morning program,covering English specifically for the high school subject areas ofsocial studies, geography, history, math, science, and computers.
Additional support is available, including settlement orientation,reports to parents, and assistance with high school selection andapplication.
CAMPUS TOURSGV Campus Tours are designed for students who are planning to pursue secondary orpost-secondary studies in North America. The program consists of English language lessonscombined with campus tours of select high schools and/or colleges and universities,allowing students to gain first-hand knowledge about their future study options. Of coursethere are plenty of activities and sightseeing excursions as well, making GV Campus Toursthe perfect opportunity to enjoy the present, while planning for the future!

PARENT AND CHILD PROGRAMThe GV Toronto Parent and Child Programprovides families the opportunity to travel,study, and experience Toronto together!This package comes in 2, 3, or 4 weekoptions, and includes 20 lessons per weekof English at GV Toronto for the parents, and15 lessons per week held at the University ofToronto for the children.
Parents and children will stay in the samehomestay family, study in programs suitedto their ages, and have the opportunity toparticipate in activities together. Childrenare fully supervised at the University of
Toronto by GV Toronto staff, and can beescorted to GV Toronto following classes ifrequested. Add-on Activity Packages areavailable for parents wishing to participatein afternoon and/or weekend activitiesalong with their children.

SUMMER TEEN HOCKEY CAMPGV Toronto is very pleased to offer aSummer Teen Hockey Camp to studentswho are looking for an opportunity toimprove their English, enjoy activities and

Students can choose two, three, or fourweeks of our world-renowned Teen ActivityProgram (please see p.5), and then add oneor more weeks of intensive hockey camp.During the hockey camp, students stay inresidence and have a full-day schedule ofon-ice training, offi ciated games, dry-landtraining, team-building activities, and more.This is a top-quality program designed tomaximize improvement on and off theice. ENGLISH + SURFINGHoping to escape winter? English PlusSurfing combines our quality full- or part-time English programs with surf lessons!
Whether the student is a seasoned surferlooking for local knowledge about theHawaii breaks, or a brand new surfer readyto catch that first wave, English + Surfingcan help them make the most of theirHawaiian experience. Global Village Hawaiiis proud to be working in coordination withone of Hawaiis world famous surf schools.This relationship guarantees that theprogram will be professionally run, both inthe classroom and in the surf!

ENGLISH + WINTER SPORTSGV Calgary offers a 4-week package tostudents who want to improve their Englishproficiency as well as experience theexcitement of winter sports. The programis focused on serious learning, serious fun,all in the safety of the city of Calgary withcaring, quality GV host families.
Students will have 20 English languagelessons per week, scheduled in the morning(including vocabulary building, functionalEnglish, communicative grammar, writing,
speaking, reading, and listening), followedby skiing or snowboarding in the afternoonor evening two times per week. As well,there will be two Saturday excursions,including one trip to Banff National Park inthe Rocky Mountains!

HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC YEARThis program is directed to junior high and high school students wishing to improvetheir English, immerse themselves in a Canadian high school, and stay with a warm andwelcoming Canadian host family.
While their English improves, they will gain academic credits in the subjects which theysuccessfully complete.
The high school year is from late August to June; foreign students follow the plan of studiesestablished by the provincial Ministry of Education and they integrate into their schools inthe same way that Canadian teenagers do.
PROGRAM OPTIONS
depending on the province, public schools may be non-denominational or Catholicone semester or one yearprivate religious schools (Christian or Catholic) one semester or one yearprivate non-denominational schools.
HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCEThe High School Experience program allows students to be welcomed into Canadian highschools for a 4 - 12 week period.
Students go to classes just like Canadian students, but they do not receive credits. They areexpected to participate in all aspects of class discussions, assignments, and projects.
Saturdays and Sundays are set aside as family days when the students can participate infamily activities.

The camp takes place at Sheridan College,which is known for its comfortable privaterooms with internet access, TV, telephone,pluso shared bathroom and kitchen withone other student. Sheridan is Canadas topMedia Arts college and is only 30 minutesfrom Toronto.

The studentsroom is bright, clean and nicely decorated. The family enjoys avariety of activities such as walking, hiking, camping and swimming.Host mother especially loves reading and crafts, while host fatherenjoys his computer and guitar. join them in any of their family activities.

A: Applications can be made directly to GlobalVillage via fax, email, or our website. You can alsoapply through your favourite study travel agent.

Q: What other documents will I need to preparebefore my child leaves?
A: 1) You will need to complete and sign the GVUnderage Agreement, which will be provided bythe school upon application.
2) If your child will be studying in Canada, you willalso need to sign a custodial document to allowan adult to be responsible for your child whileoverseas; our Registration staff will help you withthis.
3) Your child will need a valid passport, andpossibly a visa (please check with the Canadianor US Embassy or Consulate in your country fordetails).
4) Your child will need travel/medical insurance(minimum $500,000; $200,000 in Hawaii).

Q: How can I be sure my child will be safe?A: Global Village schools put enormous time and
resources into ensuring the safety of our juniorstudents, from carefully-screened homestaysto fully-supervised outings. We ensure that ouryoung students are given all the information theyneed about safety in each GV location, as well asinformation about local laws and customs. Aswell, we have staff in each of our schools who arealways ready to speak with our junior studentsshould they have any questionsor concerns.
We have hosted thousands of junior studentsover the last 20+ years, and have an excellentreputation for providing them with safe,enjoyable, and memorable experiences!
Q: How can I stay in touch with my child while he/she is away?
A: All GV schools provide free internet to ourstudents. Our campuses are wireless, and studentshave access to multiple computer labs; students
are welcome to email their friends and families intheir native language.
As well, students can purchase pre-paid callingcards to make long-distance phone calls from theirhomestays (subject to homestay family approval).
Q: Why should I send my child to study abroad?
A: A child who spends time studying abroad gainsmany advantages: English language skills improve very quickly in
an immersion environment. Children gain self-confidence when given a
