Punishment Aims: GVSS Delta aims to instill discipline in cadets and expose them to the common mistakes and offenses committed by the cadets. This can be done through the introduction of corporal punishments as an effective method of discouraging basic mistakes and keeping discipline. As 'tekan-ing' had been banned by HQ NCC, punishments will only be used according to the guidelines set out in this handbook. There will be no abuse of power. Note: A cadet can only punish another cadet if he or she is 2 or more ranks higher than the offender. When cadets with the rank of 3rd Sargent or higher issue a static punishment to an offender, the cadet is also to do double the punishments given out by him or her. This is because the cadet has failed in his duty to discipline the offender properly. There are a few types of punishments, mainly static punishments, Detentions and duties, stripping of privileges, or even demotion. The most common type, static punishments, are usually used for small offenses. It is usually a basic exercise (e.g. Push Up) that can be done on the spot of offense. The aim of static punishments is to serve as an immediate reminder not to do it again, and allows the offender to pay for his misdeeds with discomfort. If it does not seem to work, The cadet's privileges can be removed. This can include the privilege to play games after PT, or even the privilege to wear the PT kit. For more serious offenses, cadets can be stripped of their ranks or even expelled from the corps. Punishments are also mostly done together as a part immediately after offense has been committed. This is to reinforce the One for all, and All for one spirit.

Punishment Trade Since all static punishments are done in Push Ups, GVSS NCC understands that when the number gets too high, Push Ups should be allowed to change into other forms of punishments. Cadets punished with Push Ups can choose to change 1 Push Up for 2 Sit Ups or Crunches, 2 Squats, 1 count of 8 jumping Jumping Jacks, or 3 Buddha claps. Cadets can also choose to perform all activities during the next NCC training in Full no.4 with 2 PT shirts inside. Doing so will waive 100 Push Ups.

Cadets will support the weight of their body with only their arms, with the toes of their feet placed on the ground for support. Throughout the exercise, only the cadet's palms and toes or forefoot is allowed to maintain contact with the floor. Keeping hips, legs, and backs straight, palms at shoulder width apart and elbows fully extended, the cadet will begin to lower his or her body by bending at the elbows. Once the cadet's chest touches the floor, the cadet is to return to the elevated position again, without bouncing off the floor or resting. Cadets will do this 40,35,45 times.

RESTRICTED

RESTRICTED*Female cadets are allowed to support themselves with their knees instead their toes or forefoot. However, female cadets must cross one foot over the other and lift their feet up so that the toes do not rest on the floor.

RESTRICTED

RESTRICTED-CRUNCHES The cadet doing the Crunches exercise will lie face up on the floor, and lift the lower half of his body such that the thigh is directly perpendicular to the abdomen, and the calf is in right angle or more with the thigh. Maintaining that position, the cadet is to cup his ears in his fingers. Using only his or her abdominal muscles, the cadet will lift the top half of his or her body. The cadet's elbows must touch or exceed the knees for 1 rep to be counted. The cadet will then return to the original position. The back of the cadet's head and the shoulder blades must make contact with the floor. Cadets will do this 50,45, 55 times.

RESTRICTED

RESTRICTED-JUMPING JACKS This is a 4 part exercise. On the starting position, The cadet is standing upright in sedia position. On the count of 1, the cadet will jump, while simultaneously bring both arms ninety degrees sideways away from the body. Legs will open to shoulder width. On the count of 2, the cadet will jump and bring both arms and legs to starting position. On the count of 3, the cadet will jump again, legs to shoulder width, and bring both arms over his or head as shown in the picture. On the count of 4, cadet jumps back to starting position. FLUTTERKICKS Cadets will lie face up on the floor. Using only abdominal muscles, cadets will get into the leg raise position by lifting the lower half of their body 45 degrees into the air as shown in the picture. The legs are to be kept straight, and knees locked. Both hands are to be placed under the buttocks, and are not to be used to support the weight of the legs. Cadets will also lift their head, ensuring that the shoulders are not in contact with the floor. Maintaining this position, on the command of '1', cadets will move their left leg vertically downward, so that the angle of elevation is approximatly 5 degrees with the floor, while at the same time moving the right leg vertically upwards so that the angle of elevation of the right leg is close to 90 degrees without actually exceeding 90 degrees. On the command of '2', cadets return their legs to the original leg raise position. On the count of '3', cadets repeat the command of '1' this time moving different legs upwards and downwards. On command '4', cadets return to the original leg raise position. This is one count of 4. Two repetitions is considered one count of 8. For PT, cadets will do 20 counts of 8, 15 counts of 8, 25 counts of 8.

RESTRICTED

RESTRICTED

Buddha Claps Although the Buddha Clap exercise is not strictly physically demanding on its own, GVNCC will be combining this exercise with the Half-Squat. Thus, this exercise is a good alternative punishment for cadets who are unable to do Push Ups as it tires both arms and legs muscles. It can be maintained for long periods of time and its difficulty can be easily increased or decreased. Cadets doing the Buddha Claps will first get into the Half Squat position. From a Senung Diri position, cadets will begin bending at the knee so that a 90 degree angle is formed. The back, buttocks and head is to be kept upright and straight in a line, the arms are to be extended sideways away from the body, at a 90 degrees angle. The arms must be fully extended, straight, and elbows locked. Cadets are to ensure that the arms are held parallel to the thighs, and the legs are in a constant right angle. CADETS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SLOUCH and backs are to be upright at all times. This is called the Half squat position, or the Phantom Chair as cadets will look as if they are sitting on an invisible chair. Cadets are to maintain the Half-squat position throughout the duration of the exercise. From this position, on the command of '1', cadets will move their arms to their front, making a clap, all the while keeping their arms straight, parallel to the thighs and perpendicular to the body. On the command of '2', cadets will return to the original Half Squat position by moving their arms back to their sides, Arms, elbows and shoulders must lie in a straight line. On the command of '3', Cadets are to bring

RESTRICTED

RESTRICTEDtheir arms above their heads, clapping above the head. On the command of '4', Cadets will return to the HalfSquat position. This repetition is 1 count of 4. Two repetitions is 1 count of 8. Cadets are to do 40 counts of 8, 35 counts of 8, and 45 counts of 8 for PT. Note: To increase difficulty of the exercise, Cadets can be made to hold wooden rifles or their boots in their hands while doing this exercise. It is recommended that cadets rest their backs against a smooth wall while doing this exercise.

BEHIND ENEMY LINES (4th January)Behind Enemy Lines is a 2001 film starring Gene Hackman and Owen Wilson. The film is loosely based on the Mrkonji Grad incident. The Mrkonji Grad incident was an incident in which a Bosnian Serb Army SA-6 surface-to-air missile shot down a USAF F-16 near Mrkonji Grad, Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 2, 1995. The American pilot, Scott O'Grady, ejected safely and was rescued six days later, on June 8.

SAVING PRIVATE RYAN (14th March)Saving Private Ryan is a 1998 Academy-Award-winning film set in World War II, directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Robert Rodat. This film is particularly notable for the intensity of its opening 24 minutes, which depict the Omaha beachhead assault of June 6, 1944. Thereafter it presents a fictional search for a paratrooper of the U.S. 101st Airborne Division. While this part of the plot is a work of fiction, the premise is very loosely based on the real-life case of the Niland Brothers. Saving Private Ryan was well received by audiences and garnered considerable critical acclaim, winning several awards for film, cast and crew as well as earning significant returns at the box office.
