Well folks, summer is officially over. But that
does not mean the end of riding… in fact some
of the better riding is still ahead! We are still
planning a fall foliage ride, which actual can be
more than one, we at least try to get around
several times during this time to see the colors
and rumor has it that we should have a pretty
good one this year. It’s time to break out the
leather riding jacket or liner and find those long
underwear because you never know when it will
be 45 degrees which isn’t too bad… till you
factor in the wind chill. It’s hard to look at the
pretty colors when your teeth are chattering.
We also have the Branson trip coming up and I
know by the time you read this you won’t be
able to get a room at the primary hotel, but there
are still plenty of hotels around and you can still
“hook up” with the gang and do things. I
suspect we will be all over Branson that
weekend in November! Drop a line or call
someone if you’re on the last minute plan (that
means you don’t know if you can go till the Friday
night before you leave because work has been
piled on you) and make sure we’re looking for you
somewhere.
There are still chapter rallies around, but they are
getting scarce this time of year. It is getting to that
time when chapters are doing parades and
charitable events, which is another name for TIME
TO SHOW OFF THE BIKE.
Remember when you’re out on the road… choose
wisely…

Hey Troops,
Why is summer so long coming and
then gone in the blink of an eye. I guess
it could be worse, though. With Fall on
us we need to take time to prepare for
the cooler weather and be aware of the
riding hazards that come with Fall. We
live in one of the best areas for Fall
riding, so gear up and go for it. We will
be putting a Foliage Ride on the calendar
for sometime in October. Also, there

are
Are still a few chapter rallies left to
attend as well as the District Memorial
Picnic in Little Rock and the District Toy
Ride. You can also venture across the
state line to Muskogee for the Oklahoma District Rally. Remember, to be visited,
you need to go visit.

On the Safe Side: By George Coiner Hi Guys and Gals
Here it is October. Cooler
temperatures are in our future. Fog is a main
concern in the mornings. It might be clear as
bell and then you run into a fog bank. This can
be unnerving. Just remember to use your high
beams with the direction down. That will give
you better light without blinding you. The two
biggest concerns with fog is being seen and
seeing others. Seeing others can be
accomplished by keeping a rag close at hand to
wipe your windshield and keeping your face
shield clean. Having others see you is harder.
Lights, light colored clothing, and riding in the
left track will help you the most. Riding in the
outside lane at a reduced speed can make it
safer for you.

Nova Wins Fourth Wingnut Award
I'm not always 100% sure why these are given out to people, but this time I
truly have no clue what put me in the running much less how I won again, I think
they just drew my ticket for it this time or maybe I am the wingnut protector.
Sorry Don, I guess we could have had the picnic ride after the monthly
meeting, but then it would have stormed for sure so it's better to err on the side of
caution. Besides we can turn the picnic ride into a game night ride with food.
I am looking forward to the Branson campout/hotel show weekend. We have
had a pretty good turn out so it should be a great time for all who attend.
We had the dinner ride tonight to Ron's Hamburgers and Chili in Bentonville
with 10 people (Frank, Sharon, Eugene, Connie, Don & Pam M., Bob, Mary, Connie
and myself) we had a good time visiting and laughing. Connie and I made mention
we were going to ride down to Bikes Blues and BBQ since we are newbies to the area
and had never been there. So everybody says, "Yeah!" and away we go, after a quick
trip by Curly Bob's house to drop off Mary because she didn't want to go. We then
gassed up and headed south. We walked through the vendor area for a short while, but
unfortunately they were closing down for the night.
George would be proud of the group riding skills demonstrated both going and
coming. They apparently impressed several hogs, who fell in behind us, and
eventually found their way into the correct stagger-formation; where they followed us
all the way to Exit 88 before leaving our group.
We are working on several ride ideas to finish out the year, i.e., foliage ride,
couple of dinner rides and a few other ideas we are investigating. Don't forget the
Oklahoma District Rally, October 9th thru 11th in Muskogee is coming up and also
there is a campout Halloween weekend at Natural Falls State Park (near Siloam
Springs) that is hosted by an Oklahoma chapter. Would be a great day ride
depending on the weather. Until next month – RIDE SAFE AND RIDE OFTEN.

BUZZY BEAR’S ADVENTURES
Here I am back from Wasilla, Alaska, the hometown of V.P. nominee, Sarah Palin. I had an exciting trip with the Tresners. I saw many animals including reindeer, elk, moose, and musk ox. I had my picture taken with some of them. We rode through 20 miles of dirt road through the Hatchers Pass. It was the most beautiful country I have ever seen. I also attended the Alaska State Fair. We took a trip through the woods on a 4-wheeler. I was surprised to see 4-wheeler trails along each highway and almost everyone owns a 4-wheeler or snow mobile. We had the
privilege of attending Alaska’s GWRRA, Chapter A, meeting and meet some very nice people. The Tresners are looking forward to the time when they can return because there is so much more to see. One week is certainly not long enough

BIKES, BLUES & BBQ POKER RUN Don and I met with some friends from Oklahoma and
ventured down to the Tyson Track Center to sign up for the
Saturday morning poker run. It seemed that 1/2 of the people
attending the annual Bikes, Blues and BBQ had the same idea.
We finally got on the road about 9:30 a.m. and headed for the
first stop in Huntsville. When we stopped there, we saw and
visited with Bobbye Beecher, her granddaughter and Doug
Caler, who were also on the poker run. Since we had not seen
our friends for several years, we had to visit a while before
heading to the second stop in Eureka Springs.
The ride to Eureka Springs was a very nice ride. The
weather was just right and the coolness of the morning was
starting to wear off. After we received our second card, we
walked around Eureka Springs for a while (which was longer
than we had intended). After a fuel stop, we then proceeded to
Freedom Powersports in Rogers. Before reaching Freedom
Powersports, we decided to take a quick lunch break at the
McDonald’s. Needless to say, our breaks and visiting periods
took a lot longer than we had planned and we were running
out of time to make the entire poker run in the time allotted.
After receiving our third card, of which none of us had a very
good hand, we decided to break off and head down the pig
trail. Our friends had made the poker run on Friday, of which
the pig trail was part of the route that they were assigned to
take, and they wanted to ride it again before heading back
to the flat lands.
A lot of other bikers had the same idea as the pig trail
was one busy place. We rode behind a couple Harley riders
(one of which was probably a new rider as she was not
taking the curves very fast). We made it down to Turner’s
Bend where we took a quick break and headed back up the
pig trail on our way back to Fayetteville. After getting
freshened up, we all went out to eat. You know, Don and I
never did make it down Dickson Street. That is a first in
the 5 years that we have been attending Bikes, Blues and
BBQ.

RETIREMENT PLANNING FOR 2008
If you had purchased $1,000.00 of Nortel stock one year
ago, it would now be worth $49.00. With Enron, you
would have had $16.50 left of the original $1,000. With
WorldCom, you would have less than $5.00 left. If you
had purchased $1,000.00 of Delta Air Lines stock you
would have $49.00 left. But if you had purchased
$1,000.00 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer,
then turned in the cans for aluminum recycling REFUND,
you would have $214.00. Based on he above, the best
current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.
It’s called the 401-Keg Plan.

Are there riders of “Other Brands” of motorcycles in your chapter? Does this cause
some concern or negative emotion for some Gold Wing or Valkyrie riding Members?
First lets review the Associate Membership classification. “…a non-Member
recognition program for people who cannot qualify for “Individual” or “Family”
Membership. This is a form of recognition for those participants who may not own or
ride a motorcycle, or who own or ride a motorcycle other than a Gold Wing or
Valkyrie.” Associate Members are welcomed and encouraged to hold staff positions,
but are not eligible to hold a line officer position. An Associate Member may serve as
Rider Educator if properly qualified and with the approval of the appropriate Leaders.
Associate Members will be granted the same fees to rallies and Wing Ding as Full
Members, and will include national, regional, district, and chapter events.
So, even though the title is Gold Wing and Valkyrie riders, there is an obvious
intent to accommodate participants who ride “Other Brands”. International
Headquarters is setting the tone with Wing World article such as “Ridden & Rated”,
“Riders Other Rides” photo section, etc., all aimed at becoming more inclusive to riders
of “Other Brands”.
Why should you and your Chapter embrace this approach? Opportunity!
Opportunity to understand our sport better by exposure to others. Opportunity to have
a positive influence on our sport. Opportunity to expose other riders to the fantastic
GWRRA Family. Opportunity to expose other riders to the premier GWRRA Rider
Education program. (This is a major benefit that is not generally available to riders
outside GWRRA.) Opportunity to expand our family of friends. Opportunity to recruit
younger Members. And the Opportunity to expose other riders to the Gold Wing &
Valkyrie motorcycles and possibly influencing their choice of owning a Gold Wing as
their next machine.
So when you see that “Other Brand” rider participating with your Chapter
remember the “Opportunity” and look beyond the brand of the ride, the choice of safety
gear and personal style. Remember you can have a positive influence on your fellow
riders and the sport of motorcycling.

A Word from the District Director
Arkansas District Directors [email protected] Dale & Carolyn Frieden www.argwrra.org 10647 Cowger Lane Phone: 479-229-3370 Dardanelle, Arkansas 72834 Fall riding weather is here and we have really been enjoying the cooler temperatures and beautiful
weather we have been having. We should have a couple of great riding months ahead of us to get out and
enjoy the fall colors and GWRRA activities that remain for the year.
With that in mind, remember, we have the District Memorial Picnic coming up Saturday, October 18 th at
Burns Park in North Little Rock. Activities will start about 10 a.m. and we should be on the way home
by 2:30 or 3 p.m. Chapter Directors, remember, this is your opportunity to take the District Cup home for
the coming year. So be sure you have a team ready to compete (2 females and 2 males). Also, get your
best Chili Chef entered into the District’s Third Annual Chili Championship Cook Off.
Last year Chapter H walked away as winners of both the District Cup and Chili Cook Off. So, make your
preparations and come gunning for them this year and take those BRAGGIN’ rights back to your
Chapter.
Along with the fun, games, good food and fellowship, we will also be remembering our GWRRA
extended family members that have passed on over the years with a Memorial Service presided over by
Terry Williams.
Make your plans for a Chapter ride to Burns Park on October 18th. We guarantee you will have a great
day and you won’t go home hungry.
Until next time, ride safe and “Ride With Pride”.
