GYAN MANTHAN REPORT 2016

Gyan Manthan, The Royal Mela which is one of the most awaited events of

Royal College of Arts, Science and Commerce was organized on 26th and 27th of

August2016. Gyan Manthan 2016 witnessed an overwhelming response from participants,

both intercollege and intracollege. Participants enjoyed the event.

There were fun games in mathematics and psychology, workshop and

disaster management, Press & Radio ad making, Haseen Mulakat (Celebrity Interview), Lan

Gaming, Seminar on BREXIT, Pictionary, PowerPoint Presentation, Micro & Eco Rangoli,

Hymn Chanting, Skits, Chem housie, Inter-collegiate Basket ball tournament, Bio-Cartoon.

Mehendi application, Poster Competitions, Food Stalls and many more.

A brief report of all the events is stated below.

Date: 26/08/2016

1. Math’s Seminar

This event was organized in room no. 312 by the Math’s club. There were 8 groups from 11th

Science and 12th Science with a total of 16 participants from Junior College. The audience

class was 11th Science ‘A’. The event was judged by Professor Sapna Poojari and Professor

Sindhu Pillai according to the presentation, confidence and the content.

2. Mehendi Competition

This event was organized by the FACC club in room no. 303 & 3B. It started at 10:00am.

The time given to the participants was one hour. No specific theme was given to the

audience, they were asked to do any design in the time span of an hour. There were 75

participants 42 from Degree College and 33 from Junior college. The event was conducted

and organized well with the help of students and co-coordinators. The event was judged by

Professor Seema kapoor and Professor Afsha Ratansi

3. Wad-Vivad

This event was organized by the Hindi Department in room no. 203 which was also an

intercollegiate event. Total number of students participated in this event was 14. Along with

Royal College, SIES, Maharshtra College, Rizvi College, Shankar Narayan College and Kuia

College had also participated in the event. The event was judged by Miss Tapasvi from Royal

Urdu School and Dr. Tulika Sinha from Royal College.

4. Sketch Making

This event involved sketches on social and environmental issues. A total of 12 students

participated, 8 from Junior College and 4 from Degree College in room no. 207. The event

was judged by Professor Shivangi and Professor Tulika. Topics for sketching were:

1) Save Water

2) Save Planet

3) Dreams in 2050

5. Science-Fiction Movie Clip

This event was organized by the Physics Department (Senior) in the AV room. The students

were asked to present a clip based on Science fiction and were asked to present a futuristic

application based on the clip. This event was judged by Dr. Chitra from Chemistry

Department and Professor Akhil from the Computer Science Department. Total numbers of

participants were 7 out of which 1 was from Junior College and the other 6 from the Degree

College.

6. Music Baaz

Music baaz was all about magic of musical instruments. Different instruments were played

like Keyboard, Tabla, Guitar and Piano. There were total 9 participants 7 from Junior College

and 2 from Degree College. The event was organized by The FACC club in room number

203 and was judged by Professor Komal Wategaonkar and Professor Sapna Poojary.

7. Seminar on BREXIT

The Department of Economics had conducted and Elocution Competition on BREXIT in

room number 201. The topic was selected primarily to make students and audience aware

about BREXIT. The participant had spoken on its meaning, causes and effects of BREXIT on

U.K. as well as on its business partners particularly India. They also discussed on current

scenario after the exit of Britian. Total numbers of participants were 6 all from the Degree

College. The event was judged by Professor Dhwani Rathod and by Professor Jyotsna Haran.

8. Mask Making

It was a solo event and the theme was Halloween. The event was organized by the FACC

club in room number 206. Making mask is a creative activity. Participants made masks and

also gave a suitable name to their masks. Total numbers of participants were 14 out of which

6 were from Degree College and 8 were from the Junior College. The event was judged by

Professor Vinita Mohite and by Professor Aarti Babuji.

9. Games Stall

The event was organized by the Senior Maths Club Department in the library. There were 4

diffent games as follows:

1. Shoot, solve and win: - In this game, participants had to shoot balloons, solve the puzzle

and win.

2. Rubik’s Cube:- In this, participants had to solve the Rubik’s cube within 5 minutes.

3. Chess Board:- In this game, within 2 minutes the chess puzzle had to be solved. 2 puzzles

were arranged here.

4. Snake and Ladder:- In this game, participants had to solve the puzzle in 10 seconds and

had to move 6 squares ahead. If solved in 15 seconds, then they’ll move up to 3 squares,

when solved in 20 seconds, they could movie one square and reach home.

There were 258 participants out of which 122 were from the Junior College and 136 from the

Senior College.

10. Sudoku

In this event, 2 Sudoku cones, one was numerical and the other one was alphabetical. These

were supposed to be solved in 20 minutes. The event was organized by the Senior Maths

Club in room number 204 where, 18 students had participated out of which 5 were from the

Junior College and 13 from the Senior College.

11. Miss Entrepreneur

The event was organized by The Women Development Cell in room number 202. The event

was all about showing talent where, participants had to display their talents and convert them

into profession and business. There were 6 participants all from the Degree College. The

event was judged by Dr Chitralekha Amin and Miss Pooja Fernandes.

12. Press and Radio Ad Making

The event had 6 teams comprising of 3 members each from Degree College and 5 teams

comprising of 3 members from Junior College so, in total, there were 11 participants 5, from

Junior College and 6 from Degree College. The Press Ads and the Radio Jingles were very

creatively prepared. The enthusiasm was very high among all participants. Volunteers

involved in the vent had managed the fillers well. The event was judged by Professor Vidya

Bhakta and by Professor Jalpa Parekh. It was organized in room number 202.

13. Fun Chem XII

The event was organized by The Chemical Association in room number 205. Here, a group of

2 students solved puzzles and interesting problems as well as questions related to Chemistry.

Total 19 students had participated all from the Junior College.

14. Fun Chem

Group of 3 students were made by selecting chits of elements/class of organic compacts etc.

Groups solved interesting problems and puzzles related to Chemistry. Students getting

maximum marks were winners. The event was organized by the Chemical Association in

room number 205 where, the total number of participant was 100 all from the Junior College.

15. Power Point Presentation

The event was organized by the literary Association in room number 302 where, the

presentation was on the ports. Students presented a port in a short span of 5 minutes. They

could present it in, any language of their choice that is English, Hindi, Urdu and Marathi.

Students presented it very well, it was a huge success. There were a total of 13 participants

out of which 11 were from the Junior College and 2 from the Senior College. The event was

judged by Professor Nilesh Kadam and by Professor Anand Singh

16. Poetry Recitation

The event was organized by the Literary Association in room number 312. The participants

from both Junior College (35) and Degree College (11) recited poems in different languages

like English, Hindi, Marathi and Urdu. It was a successful event. The event was judged by

Professor Shreevidya A and Professor Pradnya D

17. LAN Gaming

The event was organized by the INFO-T club in room number 109. Participants had taken

part in a shooting Game. Rounds were best of three where winning team was advanced to

next level. Final three winners were selected based on the highest number of kills in the final

round.

18. Sketch Your Imagination

The event was organized by the INFO-T club in room number 108. A total of 15 students had

participated all from Degree College in sketching any picture in MS-paint. The event was

judged by Professor Ayesha Kalaniya and Professor Seema Barik.

19. Logiptude

Logiptude test consists of various multiple choice questions like Aptitude test of computer

and IT stream. The entry for the event was open for all since nowadays computer literacy is

must. 34 students from Junior College and 2 students from Degree College had participated

in the event. The event was organized in room number 108.

20. Video Matinee

The event was organized by the INFO-T Club on 5th floor in the Mun Auditorium where, a

video was shown to the audience and based on that video questions were asked that

challenged the observation skills of the students. Chocolates were given to the students who

gave right answers. A total of 41 students had participated, all from Degree College.

21. Tiara Making

The event was organized by the FACC club in room number 206. It was a creative and solo

event. Cleanliness was one of the parameters on which the participants were judged on the

basis of creativity and cost-effectiveness. The programme was applauded by many teachers

who wore the tiaras and got themselves clicked. 40 students had participated in the event 22

from Junior College and 18 students from the Degree College. The event was judged by

Professor Shaista and by Ms. Hamida.

22. Intercollegeiate Basketball Tournament

The tournament was organized by the Sports and Gymkhana Club in the basketball court.

Total 5 ties were there. Bandra to Virar was the area. Only 1st prize was given to the runner

ups and participants were given certificates. Match referees were Ansari Ayaz, Ansari

Muneeb and Ansari Arif.

23. Eco-rangoli

The event was organized by the Bioscience Department near the Biology lab’s corridor. A

team of 2 students were there wherein; rangoli had to be made by natural and bio-degradable

materials. The rangoli had to convey a message for environmental conservation and care. The

picture had to be filled completely. Total 18 students had participated, 2 teams from Junior

College and 9 teams from Degree College. The event was judged by Professor Vinita Mohite

and by Professor Radhika D.

24. Treasure Hunt

The event was organized by ARaMB (Microbiology Department) in the Microbiology

Laboratory. However, the event had to be cancelled as all the clues hidden in various places

were unveiled by the Physics Treasure Hunt participants.

25. Micro Rangoli

The event was organized by ARaMB (Microbiology Department) in the Microbiology

laboratory. In the event, any traditional or contemporary rangoli design was to be colored

using concepts of Microbiological staining procedures or permanent slide observations. The

artistic value, fineness and accuracy of staining diagrams, variety of procedures used were

judged. Total 5 students had participated all from Degree College. The event was judged by

Professor Zamanat Syed and by Professor Vilasini Gaode.

26. Treasure Hunt

The event was organized by the Physics Department (Senior) in room number 207 wherein,

there were 5 levels. Clues were kept within the college premises and outside. A total of 120

students had participated in the event.

27. Sketching and painting of Birds of Mumbai

The event was organized by the Nature Club on 1st floor’s corridor. In this event, Birds of

Mumbai were selected from Sunjoy Monga’s book on Birds of Mumbai. Sketching and

painting was done on A-4 size paper. There was a good response and awareness about variety

of birds in Mumbai. Total 24 students had participated. The event was judged by Professor

Radhika A. D’Souza and by Professor Nilesh Kadam.

28. Food Stall (Degree College)

The event was organized by the Student’s Council where different food items were made and

sold by the students. The event was judged by Professor Rehan and by Professor Sadguna .

29. Tangled Unwire Yourself (Psychological Games)

The event was organized by the Psychology Department from the Arts Association in the

college library. It comprised of various games based on the principles of Psychology with the

object of self awareness of the participants. The games organizing committee also were able

to discover their skills and develop them through the event. Psychological Games included:

Personality Hunter, Myth Blowers, Ball Your Emotions, Enigma, Fix it and Perceptual

Illusion. Psychological Tests included: Perfectionism Scale, Procrastination Scale, Self-

consciousness Scale and Social Anxiety Scale were all conducted followed by brief psycho-

education. The participants were encouraged through bookmarks and winning participants

were presented with a pen. Total 140 students had participated. 73 were from Junior College

and 64 from the Degree College.

30. Chem-Housie

The event was organized by The Chemical Association (Junior College) in room number

2015. In this event, housie tickets were given to participants. Names and properties of

elements from periodic table were called out. Students cut out the symbols. The event had to

be conducted twice due to large number of participants. Altogether 91 students had

participated, all from Junior College.

31. Poster Presentation

The event was organized by the INFO-T Club in room number 119 and on the first floor

corridor. The theme was ‘How Pokemon Go Sparks Safety’. As people were going crazy with

‘Pokemon Go’ game, they play the game on smartphones without taking care of traffic and

location. The game also sends location data details on server with the help of GPS which is

dangerous from the safety and security point of view. The whole idea behind this was to

create awareness among the students. The event got good response mainly from Junior

College students. The posters were displayed on the 1st floor. 41 students had participated in

it and it was judged by Jain Akhil, Ansari Mudassar and Padhye Anushka.

32. Micro Parody

The event was organized by ARaMB (Department of Microbiology) in room number 201. In

this event, lyrics with microbiological concepts were to be sung to the tunes of popular

Bollywood songs. 2 students had participated in the event.

33. Presentation Competition on “Emerging Indian Economy” (Intercollegiate Event)

The event was organized by the Department of BMS, BAF and Commerce in Mun

Auditorium. In this event, there were 6 teams from 4 different colleges around Mumbai. One

team had a poster presentation whereas, the others had power point presentation. There were

two members in each team with one college having only one member in the team. The judges

spoke on the topic and gave tips to the participants to improvise. 11 students had participated

all from Degree College. The event was judged by Dr. Bhavna Thakkar and Dr. Saptarshi.

34. Zara Nachke Dikha

The event was organized by the FACC club in the School Hall. It was a solo and duet dance

competition. The categories were classical, semi-classical and western form. Theme was

emotions. Few emotions depicted by the performers were anger, sadness, bravery and

humour. Total 32 students had participated out of which 16 were from Junior College and 16

from Degree College. The event was judged by Professor Smita and by Professor Shrividya.

35. Skit Competition

The event was organized by WDC in room number 201 on the topic “She Can Do What He

Can Do”. Total 10 students had participated all from Degree College. The event was judged

by Professor Parveen Shaikh and by Dr. Jyotsna Haran.

36. Hymn Chanting

The event was organized by the Literary Association in room number 302. Students from

both Degree and Junior College participated in large number and chanted hymns in English,

Hindi, Urdu and Marathi. Total 24 students participated, 24, from Junior College and 1 from

Degree College. It was judged by Professor Sapna and by Professor Rehan. The event was a

success.

37. Extempore

The event was organized by the Literary Association on room number 303. Participants were

given a topic on the spot and they had to speak on that topic for a minute. The participants

expressed their viewpoints creatively and made the event a success. Total 13 students

participated in it all from Junior College. The event was judged by Professor Shaista and by

Professor Rajeeta.

38. Street Play

The event was organized by the NSS unit in the school hall. The plays were on social issues

where, teams performed on Women Empowerment, Sanitation and Healthy Habits. Total 50

(5 teams) students participated in the event all from Degree College.

39. Talk on ‘Empowering Women through Political Participation’

The talk was organized by the NSS unit in room number 106 where, Shaila Borade,

Chairperson of Taluka Panchayat Samittee, Ambernath shared her life experiences with 130

students all from Degree College and stressed on political and economic empowerment of

women.

40. Mock Drill

One week Disaster Management training was organized by the NSS unit to train the NSS

volunteers in relief, rescue and rehabilitation work. Volunteers were trained in Fire Fighting,

Rescue Operation Warning System and Evacuation Plan. Total 120 volunteers were there in

the event.

41. Enigma

The event was organized by the Maths Club (Senior) in room number 212. The event was

about decoding the words represented using numbers. Round 1 comprised of the famous

personalities and round comprised of cities. 22 students had participated all from Degree

College.

42. Pictionary

The event was organized by the Maths Club (Senior) in room number 203. The participants

had to describe word using geometrical object drawing. In round 1 they had to draw cartoon

characters and in round 2 they had to draw movies. There were total 8 participants 1 from

Junior College and 7 from Degree College.

43. Haseen Mulakat

The event was organized by the FACC club whereby, celebrity interviews took place by the

participants, hilarious and witty questions were asked by the interviewers to the celebrity.

There were 4 teams 2 from Junior College and 2 from Degree College. The event was judged

by Professor Momina and by Professor Pooja.

44. Bio-Cartoon

The event was organized by the Bioscience Department in Zoology laboratory in room

number 101. It was a Bio-cartoon competition where, plants animals were to be sketched as

cartoon giving a related caption. It was a solo event. 28 students participated in this event 12

from Junior College and 16 from Degree College. The event was judged by Professor Vinita

Mohite and by Professor Nilesh Kadam.

45. Food Stall (Junior College)

The event was organized by the Student’s Council where different food items were made and

sold by the students. The event was judged by Professor Tabassum and by Professor Renu K.

46. Best Out Of Waste (Wind Chime)

The event was organized by the FACC club in room number 205. In this, the participants

were asked to prepare wind chimes using waste materials. They were judged on the basis of

creativity, purpose of the model and use of the materials. Total 13 students participated out of

which 8 were from Junior College and 5 from Degree College. The event was judged by

Professor Shivangi T.

47. Grooming

The event was organized by the FACC club in room number 313. It included everything

including dress, hairstyle, make up, nail paint, and foot wear students came up with different

attires, gowns, traditional dresses and Anarkali Suits. Total 43 students participated in the

event 25, from Junior College and 18 from Degree College. The prizes were given by

Professor Hema and the event was judged by Professor Aarti Babuji and by Professor Afsha

Ratansi.

48. Crossword Quiz

The event was organized by the Royal Physics Club in room number 202. Participants were

given definitions of some Physics terms as clues and they were asked to guess the terms.

Total 22 (11 teams) members participated out of which 4 (2 teams) were from Junior College

and 18 (9 teams) were from Degree College.
