Bofurigata
GYOKKORYU BOJUTSU
Bofurigata is spinning the bo in a backwards rotation to either side of the body. The simplest way to explain how to rotate the staff is to first hold the bo as if your hands are holding a motorcycle's handlebars (see the image to the left.)
Next, release one hand from the bo and rotate it to a position like a baseball player would hold a bat. Grasp the bo again with the released hand, holding
GYOKKORYU BOJUTSUthe bo like a baseball bat.
Continue rotating the bo in the same direction, swinging the bo towards the ground like a golfer swinging a golf club. When swinging the bo low to the ground, rotate the body and step forward into the swing.

Shiho bofurigata – 4 direction striking pattern
GYOKKORYU BOJUTSU
GYOKKORYU BOJUTSU
Attack in the four different directions while using bofurigata to move the bo around your body and to reposition yourself to attack the uke. Play with the feeling of bofurigata to get used to how the bo “wants” to move, learning how to position the body to move fluidly with the bo instead of fighting the bo.
