The Safest Place on Earth

A Dramatic Case At the Mission Hospital

They came in from Urubamba and were happy to be treated so kindly. Headed up by Udo Klemenz, good progress is being made on the Children´s House. Cur-rently the ceiling on the ground floor is being cemented. Inauguration is scheduled for Februa-ry 2012. With his weekly reports on the website Udo keeps even faraway supporters up to date with progress. The up-per floors will consist of 6 apartments to house volunteers from abroad.

Children´s House on Schedule Help for Orphans

At 21, Adelaida was much too young to die. Surgeons at Diospi Suyana ope-rated not once but twice to rescue her from the clutches of death. Here is her her story: On April 12 the young Quechua girl was admitted to the hos-pital with severe abdominal pain. After tests and exams, gynecologist Dr. Haß-feld conducted urgent surgery to drain a mass of pus, which had probably come from a burst ectopic pregnan-cy. Not 24 hours later the patient was vomiting blood and went into shock. Our specialist in internal medicine, Dr. Engelhard, conducted an endoscopy, which revealed duodenal bleeding.

As a team of helping hands pushed Adelaida into the operating room, Dr. Martina John and Dr. David Brady activated a prayer chain. It was 7 pm as surgery commenced inside and pra-ying began outside. Dr. Hagen Bruder from Saxony opened her abdominal wall and then her duodenum. Suturing the spot that was bleeding he helped the young woman survive. In total she needed 7 blood transfusions but was released home in good health on April 26.

An email from Julianna Rolli in Switzerland: We live next to the Benedictine monastery in Fischingen. On Monday evening I met Pater Gregor, one of the brethren from the Bene-dictine community. He told me that they al-ways eat lunch and dinner in silence. Whilst nourishing their bodies they also like to nou-rish their spirits, and so one of the brethren always eats later so that he can read aloud to the others while they are eating. They are currently reading “Seeing God”.“How do you like it?” I asked. “Very good,” was the answer. “It shows that God´s power is present” („Seeing God“ is a book that tells the story of the Diospi Suyana-Hospital)

The Benedictine Monastery

On April 11 a truck brought $50,000 worth of medication and infusions to the hospital

– donated by ADIFAN, the association of all Peruvian pharmaceutical companies. During his visit to the Diospi Suyana hospital four days later, the President of ADIFAN, Sr. Luis Caballeros, made an amazing comment. He

had come to hear about Diospi Suyana from a red book that for some inex-plicable reason had been lying on his desk one day.

Welcome to Peru!

Where did the book come from??

See You Again, and Thank You for all the Hard Work!

On May 8 “Andere Zeiten” printed a two-page report about Diospi Suyana entitled “God is waiting for you!”, reaching 400,000 readers. In Peru, the panamericana channel broadcast a detailed report about Diospi Su-yana which reached 3 to 4 million viewers. The subject of the program was: “Miracles in high places!”

On Easter Sunday Tobias Käufer wrote a report about Diospi Suyana for “Sonntag Aktuell” con-taining several references to faith. “Sonntag Ak-tuell” is the Sunday edition of 46 secular newspa-pers read throughout the southwest of the country with an esti-mated readership of 2 million. The journalist from Bogota conclu-ded his report with the words: “The Lord is risen, He is risen in-deed, hallelujah!!

Maria Metz served as a nurse in the ward and in ER for two years. Dr. Daniel and Dr. Melanie Zeyse made crucial contributions to the progress made in the three years they served as sur-geon and internal specialist. They returned to Germany at the end of March with their children Lisa, Josua and Noemia.

Teachers Martin and Irmi Hoene taught the missio-nary kids for two years.

The Engelhards

For five long years you just could not think of Diospi Suyana in Cura-huasi without thinking of Dr. Oliver and Birgit Engelhard and their children Tabea, Jeremias and Nathaneal. - From 2008-2011 Esther Lietz-au served as a med-tech. assistant in the lab and the x-ray department. - In just one year, anesthe-tist Lutz Schoeneich, his wife Christine and children Levi and Janne, made a big difference.
