1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 PURPOSE OF THE DOCUMENT The objective of the document is to present the dissemination activities carried out during the second period of the project in order to increase the project impact and disseminate the project objectives and preliminary results.
1.2 SCOPE OF THE DOCUMENT The document shows the details of the activities that the partners of NOBEL GRID consortium have organized or participated in order to increase the project impact and relevance and to spread NOBEL GRID benefits and outputs among different stakeholders. As it is shown in this document, the partners have disseminated the project results by means of approximately 90 different actions, including workshops, conferences, congress, journals, papers, etc.; with heterogeneous audience and objectives. Moreover, these activities involve sometimes not only cooperation between the partners of the consortium but also liaisons with other projects and European initiatives, creating new synergies and networking.
In the following sections, the partners describe their dissemination and communication activities that have taken place during the second period of the project.

Title: “Combined Control and Power Hardware in-the-Loop simulation for testing Smart grid control algorithms”
Objective: Distribution networks are becoming increasingly ‘smarter’, as well as more complex, with the addition of power electronic devices, information and communication technologies, smart meters, and more. As a result, advanced control strategies to manage such networks are becoming necessary. These strategies need to be thoroughly tested and validated, before they can be implemented in a real network. For this reason, a smart grid control algorithm testing chain is proposed, that aims to gradually test control algorithms, in all their development stages, using increasingly advanced laboratory setups. In addition, the interfacing options and challenges of each stage of the chain are highlighted. The proposed testing chain is substantiated in an optimal centralised coordinated voltage control (CVC) algorithm and the final stage of the chain, namely the combination of control and power hardware-in-the-loop simulation, is presented in this study. As a specific example, the management technique for a storage system is implemented as part of the CVC algorithm. The laboratory results demonstrate that the proposed setup, despite its high complexity, enables the algorithm to be effectively and realistically tested as part of the overall system.

Place: Belgrade, Serbia
Dates: November 6-9, 2016
Type of dissemination activity: Conference Presentation Panel for Impact of NOBEL GRID tools and services in Europe
Objective: The purpose of AUEB presentation was to introduce Nobel Grid tools for generating load flexibility profiles, focusing on the profiles that characterize customers’ sensitivity to retail prices. More specifically, the Price Based Flexibility Profiling component produces a profile for each customer for peak and off-peak periods, reflecting real-time demand flexibility as a function of i) energy retail prices periods ii) environmental context/ conditions, and iii) customer preferences. In general, these profiles are useful for estimating the Demand-side flexibility that can be achieved by Aggregators and ESCOs and thus are important for all major players in the energy ecosystem; Aggregators and ESCOs can benefit from taking key operational decisions related to Manual DR schemes (such as setting the right prices for achieving a certain flexibility) while DSOs, Retailers/Suppliers and TSOs will enjoy a more stable and secure network or be less exposed to the volatility of wholesale markets.

Type of dissemination activity (workshop, paper, publication, ppt…): Conference
Objective: PowerTech is the IEEE PES anchor conference in Europe and has been attended by hundreds of delegates from around the world. International forum for individuals working in industry and academia, to network, exchange ideas, and discuss the results of their research and development work. The conference was the largest gathering of international researchers and practitioners working in the general area of electrical power engineering outside the USA in 2017 and possibly the largest such conference ever held in the UK and certainly the largest to be held in the UK for a generation.
Number of visitors: 1.000
Type of participation: Special session NOBEL GRID & WiseGRID projects

Title: V. Delgado-Gomes, J.F. Martins, C. Lima, P.N. Borza, "Towards the use of Unbundled Smart Meter for Advanced Inverters Integration"
Objective: This paper presented the integration of advanced inverters using the Unbundle Smart Meter (USM) concept. The Smart Grid (SG) implementation requires a constant monitoring and control of the power network. An Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) allows the Distribution System Operator (DSO) to know what is happening on the power network. However, existing smart meters are not prepared for an emerging energy market nor to be integrated with LV/MV dispatch centres. The USM concept allows the integration of existing smart meters in the SG, decreasing deployment costs. This paper presents the USM approach for power inverters management. The USM acts as a residential gateway, enabling the control of energy home devices using an IP-based secure communication network. The USM hosts the necessary services and drivers to provide the end-user with the capability to answer Demand Response (DR) requests from the DSO.
