Coated shiv shows an even coating of nano silica on the surface , together with some agglomerated particles. Coating is cracked at the edges of the pits. Edges of the pits are in come cases filling in with nano-silica.

Dip coated hemp shiv

Nano-silica particles appear to be relatively uniform in size at ~30nm in diameter. Distribution appears to be relatively even but there is some agglomeration of particles. Further work is needed to ascertain the depth of the coating.

Thickness of nano-silica coating layer

The images of coating layers showed that both coating layers are multi-layers coating. The thickness of dip coating layer (around 200 nm) was thinner than spray coating layer (about 500 nm).
