For immediate release November 6, 19&3 H.4.2 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended October 30: Increases of $410 million in loans adjusted, $196 million in holdings of U. S. Government secu- rities, $374 million in reserves with Federal Reserve Banks, $768 million in demand deposits adjusted, $165 million in U. S. Government demand deposits, and $295 million in time and savings deposits. Commercial and industrial loans decreased a net of $14 million; during the comparable week a year ago these loans increased $28l million. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying U. S. Government securities increased $84 million, and their loans for purchasing or carrying "other" securities increased $100 million. Loans to sales and personal financing institutions Increased $95 million and loans to "other" nonbank financial institutions increased $10 million, as compared with increases of $118 million and $9 million, respectively, during the similar week in 1962. Real estate loans increased $39 million. "Other" loans increased $69 million. Holdings of Treasury bills by weekly reporting member banks increased $203 million. "Other" securities decreased $35 million. Demand deposits adjusted increased in all but three districts and included increases of $344 million in New York City, $159 million in the Chicago District, $116 million in the Boston District, and $81 million in the Dallas District. Savings deposits increased $31 million and "other" time deposits of individuals, partnerships, and corporations increased $255 million. Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks from Federal Reserve Banks de- creased $123 million and borrowings from others decreased $138 million. H.4.2 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES

The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading c i t i e s

shows the following principal changes for the week ended October 30: Increases of

$410 million in loans adjusted, $196 million in holdings of U. S. Government secu-

r i t i e s , $374 million in reserves with Federal Reserve Banks, $768 million in demand

deposits adjusted, $165 million in U. S. Government demand deposits, and $295 million

in time and savings deposits.

Commercial and indust r ia l loans decreased a net of $14 million; during the

comparable week a year ago these loans increased $28l mill ion. Loans to brokers

and dealers fo r purchasing or carrying U. S. Government secur i t ies increased

$84 million, and the i r loans for purchasing or carrying "other" securi t ies increased

$100 mill ion. Loans to sales and personal financing ins t i tu t ions Increased

$95 million and loans to "other" nonbank f inancial ins t i tu t ions increased $10 million,

as compared with increases of $118 million and $9 million, respectively, during the

similar week in 1962. Real estate loans increased $39 mill ion. "Other" loans

increased $69 mill ion. Holdings of Treasury b i l l s by weekly reporting member banks increased

$203 mill ion. "Other" securi t ies decreased $35 mill ion.

Demand deposits adjusted increased in a l l but three d i s t r i c t s and included

increases of $344 million in New York City, $159 million in the Chicago Dis t r ic t ,

$116 million in the Boston Dis t r i c t , and $81 million in the Dallas Dis t r i c t . Savings

deposits increased $31 million and "other" time deposits of individuals, partnerships,
