WELCOME OFFICER HOLLAND! The Newark Unified School District working together with the Newark Police Department is pleased to announce that Reserve Police Officer Phil Holland will be graciously volunteering his time to work in our elementary schools a couple of days each week. Officer Holland spent over 30 years with both the Oakland and Newark Police Departments before retiring and becoming a Reserve Police Officer. Office Holland will be spending time on our campuses helping students, greetings families, and serving as a resource to our schools. We are very pleased and grateful to Officer Holland and the Newark Police Department for this opportunity.

PICKING UP STUDENTS ON TIME It is very important to pick up your student on time. Sometimes “life” gets in the way and causes parents to be late and that is understandable. For example: traffic, lost keys, accident, late appointment, on occasion all or one of the above can happen but on a daily basis we ask that our parents please come on time. Our kindergarten students are hungry and need to be home having their lunches. All other students worry when their parents are not here too. The expectation and usual pattern is common and comfortable to all students and the worry and concern it causes when someone isn’t here on time is really stressful to our children. Please go over the afternoon routine in the morning with your child. Having a relative or loved one waiting for them is a great way to end the school day.
CELL PHONE SAFETY If you allow your child to carry a cell phone, please be careful and use the following guidelines: 1. Cell phones are to be completely turned off and put away at school. Cell phones need to
be in a safe place inside the student’s backpack. 2. Check your child’s cell phone each day and review the call logs, text logs, pictures, and
other activity that has occurred. 3. Review the features of the cell phone and use a password to prevent your child from
deleting content. This will allow you to review everything that has happened on the cell phone.
4. Talk to your child about the proper use of cell phones. Students are not allowed to use the cell phones to spread rumors, threaten other students, or send inappropriate messages that could make others uncomfortable.
WORK WHILE YOUR KIDS ARE IN SCHOOL
Newark Unified School District is advertising for Elementary Campus Monitors for Breakfast and Lunch. Days are: Monday thru Friday with varying times per site. Snow School’s hours are 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Salary is $9.27 per hour. There are immediate openings right now. How to Apply: Interested applicants who possess the minimum qualifications must complete and submit an official application form to the Human Resources Department. The Human Resources Department is open to accept applications between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Applications may also be submitted by mail if they are received in the Human Resources Dept. prior to 4:00 p.m. on the closing date. Human Resources is located at Newark Unified School District Office, 5715 Musick Avenue, Newark, CA 94560.
SECOND CHANCE BREAKFAST
We have a new program called Second Chance Breakfast. Any student interested in buying breakfast at recess will be able to go into the cafeteria and receive one. Students who have

free or reduced lunch are allowed one breakfast and one lunch a day so they may not have a breakfast, second chance breakfast and lunch.
PASSPORT to SUCCESS
Parents, bring your Passport to Success with you when you attend our school events or volunteer at school. Each time you attend an event, your child will receive a stamp. Your child will be rewarded monthly if he/she has one stamp in his/her passport book. At the end of the year, those parents with 12 volunteering stamps in their child’s/children’s passport pages will receive special recognition in June at the Passport Celebration and Awards Celebration.
DAILY ABSENCE VERIFICATION
Calling in your child’s daily absences is very, very important. The office phone number is 510-818-3900. This number has voicemail so a message can be left at any time day or night. Absences should be called in each day as soon as possible but no later than 9:45 a.m. When doing so, please leave the following information:
Please say your child’s name clearly. Spelling the first and last name is very helpful. Teacher’s name and room number. Reason for the absence, i.e.: illness, dental or doctor appointment, out of town, etc. Please leave a call back number for any questions the office may have.
It is a parent’s responsibility to do this with each absence. The office will make phone calls each day to clear absences but it is most helpful if parent’s helped us by calling first! Snow School appreciates all our parents very much!
RECYCLING/COMPOST PROGRAM
Last year we started a successful food scrap recycling (compost) program. In order to continue this program, we are looking for volunteers to supervise the food recycling by the upper grade students during their lunchtime (12:20-1:00). Please contact us if you are interested in helping with this valuable program!
COMPUTER INK/TONER RECYCLING We are recycling empty inkjet, laser, fax, and copier cartridges. Every penny counts and helps! If you have empty cartridges and wish to donate them to Snow School, please send them to the office. Thank you!
PARENTS ON CAMPUS
All parents/visitors/volunteers are required to check in to the office. If you need to pick up your child for an appointment, come in to the office to sign out your child. The officer will then call your child’s teacher to have your child sent to the office. If you know ahead of time that your child is to be released during the day, please send a note to the teacher so that your child will be ready to come to the office when the office calls the class. If you need to drop off your child’s lunch, homework, etc., please come to the office. The office will be sure your child receives his/her lunch, homework, etc.

¡BIENVENIDO OFICIAL HOLLAND! El Distrito Escolar Unificado de Newark trabajando junto con el Departamento de Policía de Newark es complacido por anunciar que Oficial Reservista Phil Holland estará amablemente donando su tiempo para trabajar en las escuelas primarias un par de días cada semana. El Oficial Holland pasó más de 30 años con ambos departamentos de policías de Oakland y de Newark antes de retirarse y convertirse en un Oficial de Policía Reservista. RECOGIENDO A LOS ESTUDIANTES PUNTUALMENTE
Es muy importante el recoger a su estudiante puntualmente. Algunas veces la “vida” se complica y causa que los padres de familia lleguen tarde a recoger a sus estudiantes y esto es comprensible. Por ejemplo: el trafico, llaves perdidas, un accidente, una cita tarde, y en algunas ocasiones todos o algunos de los anteriores pueden ocurrir, pero no todos los días. Les pedimos a todos los padres de familiar el llegar puntualmente. Nuestros estudiantes del kínder están hambrientos y necesitan ir a sus casas a comer. También todos los demás estudiantes se preocupan cuando sus papás no están aquí. La expectación y la rutina usual es común y confortable para todos los estudiantes y la preocupación y nerviosismo es causado cuando alguien no está aquí estresando a nuestros niños. Por favor revisen las rutinas de las tardes con sus hijos. Pídanle a un familiar o a un ser querido el esperar por ellos. Esta es una gran forma de terminar el día escolar.
SEGURIDAD CON EL TELEFONO CELULAR Si usted le permite a su hijo el llevar un teléfono celular, por favor sea cuidadoso y use las siguientes indicaciones: 1. Los teléfonos celulares deben de estar completamente apagados y guardados durante la
escuela. Los teléfonos celulares necesitan estar en un lugar seguro adentro de la mochila del estudiante.
2. Revise el teléfono de su hijo todos los días y revise su registro de llamadas, su registro de textos, sus fotografías, y otras actividades que han ocurrido.
3. Revisar las características del teléfono celular y usar una clave secreta para prevenir que su hijo borre el contenido. Esto le permitirá revisar lo que ha pasado con el uso del teléfono celular.
4. Hable con su hijo sobre el uso apropiado del celular. No se les permite a los estudiantes el usar los teléfonos celulares para esparcir rumores, amenazar a otros estudiantes, o enviar mensajes inapropiados que pudieran hacer sentir a otros inconfortables.
¡TRABAJE MIENTRAS QUE SUS NIÑOS ESTAN EN LA ESCUELA! ¡La Escuela Primaria Snow está en necesidad de supervisores de las instalaciones! Si usted tiene un mínimo de 1 ½ horas por día para trabajar con estudiantes grandiosos y una excelente organización, ¡por favor llámenos! Las horas son de 11:30 a.m. a 1:00 p.m. El Distrito Escolar Unificado de Newark les paga a los supervisores a $9.27 por hora. Hay posiciones disponibles ahora mismo. Como Aplicar: Los solicitantes interesados deben de poseer unas calificaciones mínimas que deben de ser completadas y entregar una solicitud de empleo en el Departamento de Recursos Humanos. El Departamento de Recursos Humanos está abierto para aceptar solicitudes entre las horas de las 8:00 a.m. y las 4:00 p.m., de lunes a viernes. SEGUNDA OPORTUNIDAD PARA ELD ESAYUNO
Tenemos un programa nuevo llamado Segunda Oportunidad para el Desayuno. Cualquier estudiante interesado en comprar desayuno podrá hacer en la cafetera y recibir uno. Los estudiantes que tienen el almuerzo gratis o a precio reducido tienen permito únicamente un desayuno y un almuerzo en el día, por lo que ellos podrían no tener la oportunidad del segundo desayuno.
PASAPORTE AL ÉXITO
Padres de Familia traigan su Libro del Pasaporte al Éxito cuando ustedes asistan a los eventos escolares o cuando sean voluntarios en la escuela. Cada vez que usted asiste a un evento, su hijo recibirá un sello. Su hijo recibirá un premio mensualmente si él/ella tiene un sello en su libro del pasaporte. Al final del año, los padres de familia con 12 sellos por ser voluntarios en el pasaporte de sus hijos recibirán un reconocimiento especial en la Celebración del Pasaporte durante la Celebración de Reconocimiento del mes de Junio.
VERIFICACIÓN DIARIA DE AUSENCIAS
El llamar durante las ausencias diarias de su hijo es muy importante. El número de la oficina es el 510-818-3900. Este número tiene un correo de voz por lo que un mensaje puede ser dejado a cualquier hora del día o de la noche. Las ausencias deben de ser reportadas cada día tan pronto como sea posible pero no más tarde de las 9:45 a.m. Cuando lo haga, por favor deje la siguiente información:
Por favor diga el nombre de su hijo claramente. Deletreando el primer nombre y el apellido es de mucha ayuda.
El nombre del maestro y el número del salón. Razón de la ausencia, eje., enfermedad, dentista, o viajando, etc. Por favor deje un número de teléfono donde le podemos devolver la llamada por
cualquier pregunta que la oficina pudiera tener.
Es la responsabilidad de los padres de familia hacer esto en cada ausencia. La oficina hará llamadas telefónicas para aclarar cualquier ausencia ¡pero es de más ayuda si los padres nos llaman primero! ¡La Escuela Snow aprecia mucho a todos nuestros padres de familia!
PROGRAMA DE RECICLADO
El año pasado comenzamos el programa de reciclado de desperdicios de alimentos. Para poder continuar este programa, estamos buscando voluntarios para supervisar el reciclaje de alimentos hecho por los alumnos de los grados superiores durante la hora de su almuerzo (12:20-1:00). ¡Por favor comuníquese con nosotros si usted está interesado en ayudar con este valuable programa!
