We chose this shot as we wanted to clearly establish the storyline by using dialogue between the two main characters. A long shot is used here to show the clothing the characters are wearing are basic college clothes. As a result they are represented to us as relatable characters as our target audience are around the same age. Our film follows conventions here as the two students are clothed in typical teenage clothes and placed in a college scene.

In this shot we chose to use coding and moving letters in the background of our titles. We achieved this by using live type which made it possible to effectively represent our film, as having technical elements easily established our genre. Clearly the text, “HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO FOR YOUR FAMILY?” stands out to the audience as an important element in the storyline of the film, as we are made aware that one of the characters’ fathers is in great danger by a mysterious silhouette with a dark voice.

In this shot we chose to alter the colour into black and white, however chose to leave the “decline” button on the phone in red. This is because we wanted to portray the crime element of our genre, as black and white are colors used together to create mystery and suspense for an audience. The red is used to reflect the danger the phone holds for the characters, which is established by the voice over which makes it clearer who is behind the threatening phone call. Here we follow conventions of the crime aspect of our genre as we are trying to make the audience anticipate what is going to happen next.

In this close-up shot we used a static television as part of a short montage sequence in our teaser trailer as we wanted to use a variety of random shots to represent our intertexuality used with the matrix. We wanted to represent this aspect as the static hides us from the truth and what we want to see. The music is also built up here for the sequence as it shows a rise in the action and an increase of danger for the characters and their computer hacking. Here we follow conventions of a crime-thriller as we wanted to make the audience feel apprehensive of the coming future of the film.

This medium-two shot of the two main characters is used to show that the teenagers are capable of hacking into a system. The coding, we created by the use of live type, makes it possible for two shots to be combined into one, as we can see what the characters are looking at in a point-of-view shot, as well as where they are and what they are doing from the front. Here we follow conventions of our genre as the mise-en-scene we chose specific camera positions and clothing to reflect this.

This over-the-shoulder shot of the character “Peter” is used to display the technical intelligence he has with hacking. We used mise-en-scene aspects here such as placing our character in a bedroom scene to show that he is a stereotypical teenager with an unusual talent for hacking. The laptop placed in the center of the screen shows the significance it has in the film and is made clear that this is the main focus of our film. The dark and mystified colors here are used alongside with the image of the hands to reflect the hidden context that the film portrays.

This is an over-the-shoulder shot of the two main characters computer hacking in an office environment, we chose to use this shot because at this point it reflects how they are a team, working together to a certain motive, which is to save her dad. We then placed a green coding above the shot to show how the technical elements of our film. This effectively represents our genre and follows conventions as our intertextuality of the matrix, provides the danger element to our film.

In this scene we chose to use a long-shot to establish the surroundings of the girl character and to show why she is so alarmed and in desperate need to save her father. The messy room is used to show the threatening aspect of the film because we can tell that there is a dangerous person who wants revenge on her father. The voice over “I want them dead or alive” is used alongside this scene to converge the different conventions of a crime-thriller, which ultimately draws the audience in.

Our end titles follow conventions of a crime-thriller genre as the green and black colors create mystery and suspense for the audience and draw them in

into wanting to watch and find out more of what happens in the film. We chose to use the coding moving down, behind the transparent title using final cut pro, as we wanted to further entice the technicality we needed to use in

order use conventions to represent our genre.
