2010-2011 CSGK Annual Fund
The Annual Fund for the Catholic Schools of Greater Kalamazoo began on July 1st, 2010 and will con-clude June 30th, 2011. To date, $272,000 has been pledged and/or contributed by our constituents. Thank you so much to all who have donated so far! Continuing to provide a faith-based education requires unwavering commitment and sacrifice. It is important to note that the Catholic Schools of Greater Kalamazoo continue to exist and thrive due to the support of our parishes, families, friends, benefactors and community. Vital to the viability of our schools is the generous financial support we receive from our Alumni. Tuition alone is not enough to cover the expense of our schools. We need your support to continue to offer such an educa-tion to our students. A gift to the Annual Fund is an investment in God’s greatest gift, our children. Please prayerfully consider a gift to the 2010-11 An-nual Fund today. You may send your gift to 1000 W. Kilgore Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49008. You may also make your donation on-line through our “Secure Serv-er Donation” form located on the Hackett website. The direct link to this form is http://www.hackettcc.org/142110911141128573/site/default.asp. Thank you for your consideration. In Faith, Sarah HardingCSGK Advancement Director1000 W. Alternative Spring Break
Now is the time to consider Alternative Spring Break! Over the summer you should think about earning and setting some money aside for this VERY worthwhile trip! The cost of the trip in the last 5 years has been around $500. Earn service hours but most importantly be part of a group that helps oth-ers! We are considering a new destination this year. Any thoughts or questions, contact Mrs. Byrne.
Walkathon 2011
HCC’s annual walkathon was held on April 29. The weather was great and the first ones to cross the finish line are still smiling after their long walk

Please check last month’s issue of the Hap-penings for all the information you need to prepare your student’s books for turn in on the last day of school.
Reminder: The book collection day for un-derclassmen is June 3rd, 2011. All students were given a carbon form to list the books they are selling and a pricing sheet to use as a guideline to price the books. Class of 2012-Summer College Planning/Applications
As everyone is busy making summer plans, travel arrangements, etc., we want to encourage all current jun-iors, soon to be seniors, to consider squeezing in the following: 1) College-bound juniors – You need to begin thinking about preparing your college applications. Refer to your green, bound, “HCC College Plan-ner”, which you received last fall. Plan to finish all college applications by October 28, if not sooner! 2) Make a list of the colleges you plan to apply to – we suggest no more than 3-5, at the most! Narrow your list by viewing the colleges’ admission re-quirements. Most requirements are found within their individual college websites, or you may contact the col-lege directly via email. Arrange to visit college campuses over the sum-mer. 3) Most 2011-2012 freshman under-graduate college applications will be online by August 1, if not earlier. As you begin your application, be certain that you are completing the college’s 2011-2012 application. Start working on/developing your topic ideas for any required essays. 4) Once you have read your college’s application requirements and instruc-tions, ask teachers, employers, etc. for any required written letters of recommendation. If your college ap-plication requires that their specific “teacher evaluation” form be com-pleted, complete your section and give/send this form to your teacher. Provide a current resume with your written request for a letter, even if your recommender knows you well. Most colleges only require one letter. (Two letters are always sufficient.) Check your instructions! Please do not ask teachers to compose letters for you which you do not need.
5) We strongly recommend that you take the ACT (or SAT if the college of your choice requires this test) more than one time. There is often an in¬crease in your test score re-sults when you re-test. You must reg-ister online. Hackett’s CEEB/School code is: 232174 www.actstudent.org www.collegeboard.com
6) When registering for the ACT or SAT please list the colleges where you would like your scores to be sent. (The first four colleges chosen will be free.) College admission of-fices now require that your official scores be sent directly to them from the ACT/SAT testing company. You are charged a fee when you request scores to be sent after your original testing date. Payment is by credit card. We aren’t able to order these official scores for you. 7) Please utilize your college’s finan-cial aid site to search for scholarship opportunities. The guidance office posts scholarship opportunities for students within our Monday, Guid-ance Office News--Daily Announce-ments, as the scholarships arrive.
8) Students using the “Common Appli-cation” during the 2011-2012 school years are required to apply on-line. The official “2011-2012 Common Ap-plication Online” will launch on Au-gust 1, 2011. Until then, students can use the preview version, which is al-ready available online--complete with highlighted changes-- to familiarize themselves with the application and to view the essay questions. Open and read all tabs at the Common Applica-tion site or you will not understand how to use their electronic system or how to complete your application, to complete supplements, and to ac-cess required teacher evaluation forms! Individual college application requirements are listed within these tabs. www.commonapp.org
2011-2012 Schedule Changes
Schedule changes can be made until June 17, 2011 without a fee. Af-ter that date, a $25.00 fee will be charged for each schedule change made. Be aware that classes fill up quickly, so make your schedule changes early. If you have questions, please call the Guidance Office at 381-2646, ext. 123 or 136.
Senior Cumulative Files are coming home!
Seniors will be receiving their cu-mulative files with their diplomas. A cumulative file follows each stu-dent from kindergarten through high school graduation and includes many items. Parents, you will want to make sure that your student gives this file to you. Many include birth and Bap-tismal certificates, social security numbers, test results, school photos and class work from their early el-ementary years. Hackett will perma-nently retain transcripts and stand-ardized test score results. Your child’s cumulative file will provide you with a trip down memory lane. Enjoy!
