Letter from the President, Stephanie D. Moore What a fantastic year it’s been for HADOA! While the industry has been battling declining oil prices all
year, HADOA has diligently worked to bring great speakers and educational opportunities to you. I know
many of you are concerned about the state of our industry, but hang in there and we can make it through this
storm together. Tis the season for giving, so if you know a colleague who is searching for employment, keep
your ear to the ground and if you hear of any openings, let them know and refer them for the job!
HADOA supported a great charity, Boys & Girls Harbor which provides healthy, comprehensive residential
care for children and families in crisis at our December Holiday Luncheon which was a HUGE success!
Board members donated some great baskets for raffle and HADOA raised $1730.00 for Boys & Girls Harbor.
Representative Patricia Lind attended our event and spoke about the charity and the great things they do for
children who have nowhere else to turn. On top of what was raised at the luncheon, HADOA will be donat-
ing an additional $1000.00 bringing our grand total to $2730.00!!!! If you purchased raffle tickets or mailed
a check, the HADOA Board of Directors would like to thank you for your generous donations for such a great
cause.
If you missed the December luncheon you missed some great fun! Sarah T. Broyles, CDOA was given the
HADOA Lifetime Award and was introduced by Luanne Johnson. Ms. Broyles has provided great support to
HADOA through the years and I was proud that the HADOA Board voted her as the 2015 recipient.
The 2016 HADOA elections were also announced at the December luncheon with the largest number of votes
cast in the last few years. A fantastic Board of Directors was elected with several of the races going to the
very end for a decision adding many new faces to HADOA. Your new Board elected includes Yoli Bazan,
CDOA/CPLTA as President, Kelly Sandoval, CDOA as First Vice President, Lucretia Jones as Second Vice
President, April Luedecke as Third Vice President, Chris Ramsey as returning Treasurer, Bobbie Coleman as
Corresponding Secretary, Adam Hueske as Recording Secretary, Gloria Harrison, Kacie Bevers, Attorney
and Lyndsay Romano as new Directors. Returning Directors include Jennifer Kegans, Ernie Leuenberger,
CDOA and Elisia McCall.
Also on the ballot were three HADOA Bylaw updates that did pass. Please see the updates within this news-
letter.
I will serve as Immediate Past President in 2016 representing HADOA on the NADOA Board of Directors.
Look for my quarterly updates in our newsletter.
The November Joint HADOA/ALTA luncheon/seminar was also a great success. I would like to give a great
shout out to both Yoli Bazan, CDOA/CPLTA and Dan Brooks with ALTA for putting this event together.
I hope you enjoyed another great year of HADOA and will renew your membership
for 2016. HADOA’s 2016 membership drive is now going on. Please consider
talking coworkers into rejoining as well. It will be the best $40 you spend all year
for continuing education, especially since luncheon prices for NON-MEMBERS of
HADOA will see a slight increase for 2016 to help cover Audio and Visual costs at
the Petroleum Club.
Until we meet again...
Stephanie D. Moore, CDOA

This presentation provided an overview of some important bankruptcy considerations and focused
specifically on the treatment in bankruptcy of common agreements used in the oil and gas indus-
try (e.g. oil and gas leases and joint operating agreements). David’s presentation provided useful
information on how to handle bankruptcy partners as an operator and non-operator. To minimize
risk it is important for companies to know their contractual rights and the effect of counterparty’s
bankruptcy. Special Thanks to David for providing a Final Checklist and a copy of his presenta-
tion to the members in attendance.

Treasurer ’s Repor tTreasurer ’s Repor t
Submitted by Chris Ramsey, 2015 Treasurer
I am writing this shortly after the Holiday luncheon. First off I want to say thank you for allow-
ing me the opportunity to serve as treasurer for another year. 2015 was certainly a busy and difficult year
for the industry. Despite all the perils that we face as an industry and profession, you opened your hearts
and pocket books to give $1,730 to the Boys and Girls Harbor at the Holiday Luncheon.
My big goal this year was to get all of the financial records into electronic format. While this is still a
work in progress, all of the 2015 financial data is now in QuickBooks. 2016 will be the first year that we
run end to end electronically. This allows us to have up to the minute financial data. Having this data
will allow us to more accurately create budgets and forecasts. For 2016 I want to get the financial reports
published to our website, this will allow member’s access to the data that we use to operate.
For 2016 I have set a couple of goals that will hopefully allow the treasurer position to be one that will
transition easier once I am no longer able to serve in the position. First thing I am going to do is prepare
a manual that details what the treasurer needs to do for each transaction that takes place. This will in-
clude entering the data into our computer system, our accounting system, and reconciling the bank rec-
ords. I mention this because treasurer is a position that many people may not be inclined to run for due to
the nature of the position, it is my goal to make this position so that anyone who wants to run for can do
so with the full confidence they will be able to handle the position. My second goal for the year is to get
our financial data such as budgets and quarterly reports available on our website.
2016 looks to be another challenging year for the industry. I encourage each of you to stay active in the
association to the best of your ability. One of the things I have learned this year is that the members of
this association are always there to help.

Updates from the DirectorsUpdates from the Directors House & Hospitality— Jennifer Kegans
The 2015 year has come to an end, and so have my duties as House & Hospitality Director. All
year I was in charge of questions regarding luncheons, including cancellations and late registra-
tions, and checking registrants in at the desk. I really enjoyed meeting all registrants as they en-
tered the luncheons. It is wonderful to place names with faces of all attendees.
I would like to thank everyone on the board that came early to help me with registration and check-
ing in attendees. I would also like to thank all of the speakers who dedicated their time to educate
us on important topics in the Oil & Gas Industry. Without the continued education it would be dif-
ficult keeping up with the changing state statues and new challenges we face daily. Most important
I would like to thank all of the members and non-members who supported HADOA this year by
attending luncheons.
The Fall Social at Sambuca’s was a huge success and we plan on continuing this tradition so that
our members can get to know one another. It’s great networking when looking for a contact at a
WI partner or going to NADOA Conference alone. We hope to have another Social in the early
spring in the Woodlands for all of our contacts on the Northside.
With my exit as House and Hospitality Director, I now pass you over to Elisia McCall at
[email protected] for all luncheon and registration questions in 2016.

Corresponding Secretary— Stacey McHenry
It has been a scary year with all of the layoffs and people looking for jobs who never thought they’d
have to.
Our hearts go out to those who have encountered this struggle this year. The HADOA Board has had
a great distraction from these worries by buying and wrapping gifts for the luncheon and choosing
our charity for raffles this year.
The 2015 Board has had a great time getting to know each other better and putting our heads together
to see what we can do to improve HADOA and make members stay involved. We hope that everyone
has a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year!
Thank You,
Stacey McHenry

At the December luncheon, Sarah T. Broyles, CDOA was given the HADOA Lifetime Award. Sarah is a
Founding Member of HADOA and served as a Director in HADOA’s Founding Year in 1983. In addi-
tion, Sarah served as a Director in 1987, Corresponding Secretary in 1988, and Recording Secretary in
1989. She was also a speaker at a 2012 luncheon. While not always visible as luncheons, Sarah has
served as a mentor to many in the Division Order/Land Administration field. She also volunteered many
years with NADOA and is a Lifetime Member of NADOA.
I recently had the opportunity to interview Sarah about her 32 years of experience with HADOA. Listed
below are the answers she provided:
1) Will you please share how and why you first became involved in HADOA?
In 1978, I was given a part-time job with a division of Gossett Management called Rudy Building
Company. This involved finding owners of small parcels of land adjoining land owned by Rudy
Building Company and offering to purchase same. After six months on the job, I was offered the op-
portunity to attend a week-long Oil and Gas Seminar after which I helped with Division Orders. Thus
to learn more about the industry and to network with others I joined HADOA and NADOA in 1979.
2) You’ve given so much to HADOA during your career, what do you think HADOA has given
you?
HADOA has given me the means to learn more about the oil and gas industry, to keep up with all the
new laws being passed that affect our daily work and to meet and make friends.
3) What is your favorite HADOA memory?
Some of my favorite memories are the half-day seminars with topics such as Cemetery Rights, Joint
Operating Agreements, Trusts and Calcula-
tions. The half-day seminars allows for visiting
with those we do not see on a regular basis.
4) What advice do you have for our newer
HADOA members and younger Division Order
Analysts?
Take advantage of the educational classes and
topics that HADOA offers. My former employ-
er, Ellis Rudy, was of the belief that even if you
had heard a topic before you could learn some-
thing by hearing it again. I do believe this. Find
a mentor that can assist in your learning pro-
cess. Volunteer but do not forget that your em-
ployer pays your salary and that you have a job
to perform. After my children were grown, land
work became my passion. I still love getting up
in the morning and coming to work. Find your
passion and enjoy life.
