Participants are firstly introduced to the basic principles of Shariah & Halal Concept, the fundamental component of the Halal indus- try. Considering that Hygiene & Sanitation also forms an integral part of halalan toyyiban, participants are also taught briefly of the aspect of Hygiene and Sanitation and its importance in the halal industry. An overview of the Halal standards currently available in Malaysia for various types of Halal Products & Services that provide the mini- mum requirements for Halal certification are also includ- ed in this course. This course introduces to the participants to the various aspects of Halal products and services. S P E A K E R ’ s P R O F I L E

Dr. Fadilah Abd. Rahman is a Senior Lecturer at the Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies (ACIS) Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia. Currently, she is seconded to the Malaysia Institute of Transport Universiti Teknologi MARA as the Head of Shariah Compliant & Halal Supply Chain. She obtained her Doctoral Degree in Law (PhD in Law) (with Distinction) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). She obtained her Masters’ degree in Shariah and Law (M.A. Shariah) at the University of Malaya (MU), Malaysia. She graduated for her double degree i.e. Bachelor of Law (LLB (Shariah Law) (Hons.) IIUM, in 1994 and earlier in 1993 completed her very first degree, Bachelor of Law, LLB (Hons.) from IIUM. Her areas of interest include Medical Law & Ethics, HALAL, Islamic Family Law, and Human Rights. Her areas of expertise embrace Shariah & Law, Medical Law & Ethics, Halal Supply Chain & Islamic Family Law. She has been teaching at the Universiti Teknologi MARA Malaysia for more than 22 years and has also done a number of researcehes, presented academic papers at various national and international conferences, and published in books and journals.

At UiTM, she teaches various Shariah & Halal related subjects such as Usul Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence), Qawaid Fiqh (Islamic Legal Maxims), Halal Standard, Food Law and Sanitation (local & International), Halal Related Legal Framework, and Halal Certification & Procedures. She has also been involved in designing various academic curriculum and Training modules for UiTM as well as for other colleges and companies, and currently supervising a number of postgraduate students conducting research in Medical Law & Ethics and Halal Supply Chain. As far as training is concerned, Dr.Fadilah is also a well experienced trainer conducting Halal related trainings for other organizations and industry players. On top of that she is also a consultant of various projects, and advisor for Shari-ah and Halal related matters in few companies within the Halal Industry. At the national level, Dr. Fadilah is the Committee Member of the Technical Committee (TC/I/2): Management from the Islamic Perspective, and a member of the National Mirror Committee for SMIIC at the Department of Standards Malaysia. At the international level she is one of the Malaysia delegates in Standard & Metrolo-gy Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) and the Secretary of the Technical Committee (TC10) for the development of Halal Supply Chain Standard for OIC countries under SMIIC which is headquartered in Istanbul Turkey.
