Did you know that Dublin has been designated a UNESCO City of Literature? One of only five cities in the world to have this permanent designation. The other cities include Edinburgh in Scotland, Reykjavik in Iceland, Melbourne in Australia and Iowa City in the United States of America. Dublin received this honour because it is a city where writers and readers are celebrated. To find out more about Dublin UNESCO City of Literature visit www.dublincityofliterature.ie.

My name is Abigail.
I would like to tell you about my family and why I would like you to do the MS
READaTHON. I am 10 years old and I live with my Mum, Dad and younger Sister
Kaitlyn in Tipperary, Ireland.
I am in 5th class and my favourite subjects at school are Art and English.
Oh, and I should mention that my Mum has MS. That means Multiple Sclerosis
which is kind of hard to say really.
When I was born my Mum got really sick and had to spend lots of time in hospital.
The doctors did lots of tests and finally they said it was MS. I think she was a little
sad because MS does not have a cure and you could be sick all your life.
So I suppose I do not really know what it is like to have a Mum that does not
have MS. I remember the first time I saw my Mum in hospital. It was scary.
I did not recognise her as there were lots of wires sticking into her. But the
doctors gave her medicine and she was able to come home.
I think MS Ireland is really good because they help my Mum. The MS READaTHON
is one way that MS Ireland raise money for all the servicesthey provide.
I am doing the MS READaTHON this year for the 3rd time. I love reading
and I know that the money I raise will help people like my Mum. Please sign
up for the MS READaTHON today and help my Mum and other people with MS.

The ‘Green Schools’ Programme is run by An Taisce. It is a themed programme with schools starting on the theme of litter and waste, and working through the seven steps for this theme and applying for the Green Flag.
Once the school gets its Green Flag, for this theme, it can move on to the energy theme, and then to the water theme and so on. This links very well with the renewal of the award every two years. For further information on this programme please see www.greenschoolsireland.org.
