Members All,
As Exalted Ruler, one of my most pleasant tasks is to recognize members who have gone above and beyond the norm and have made exceptional contributions to our Lodge, community and our Order. The annual Elk
and Officer of the Year Awards are examples of this. This month we will honor two such individuals.
Phil Wilson has been a member of our Lodge for nearly 35 years. He has served on almost every committee in the Lodge and has served as an officer holding many positions during most of that time. In addition to his dedication to the Lodge, Phil served as District Deputy in 1998 and was President of the Connecticut Elks Association in 2003. He currently serves as Loyal Knight and continues as chairman of our Elks National Foundation Committee, a position
he has held for about 20 years. Sam Guy Jr. has been a Lodge member for 53 years. He served as Exalted Ruler in 1995 and as Secretary. He has served on many Lodge committees over the years. In addition, he has worked, most of the time, in the office, giving much needed assistance with our financial record-keeping, preparing and filing reports, and the tedious task of helping with budget preparation. Their countless hours of volunteerism, many of which is “behind the scenes”, has been an invaluable asset to our Lodge over the years. Phil and
Sam will receive the Meritorious Service Award on Wednesday, October 20, following the weekly dinner. Please plan on being in attendance to honor these deserving member.
It should be noted that only three other individuals in our Lodge have received this award, so this will be a very special recognition.
