School Year 2017-18 Review and Outcomes

Participants & Attendance• Over 3,000 students served

• Students who participated in Out-of-School Time Programs attended school 95.1% of the school year

Five Sites: Asbury, Burbank, Cooper, Kraft, Smith

Results: Participants scored an average of 2.5 points higher on the 2017 Math

SOL as compared to their 2016 Math SOL

– Enrolled grades 2 – 8 (over 1,100 students enrolled)

– Achieved exceptional daily attendance

– Increased language arts and math skills

– Surveyed parents and students (positive feedback)

– Increased awareness of STEM concepts and careers

About Summer S.T.R.E.A.M.• Higher-level thinking skills through the use of holistic

problem-based learning and healthy living

• Creative hands-on learning through SHARK TANK

• Enrichment activities including: Amazing Athletes, 4H, Alternatives, Inc. Art, Earline’s Music & Arts (EMA), Mad Science, Championship Chess, Virginia Air & Space Center, Urban Learning & Leadership Center

• Staffing per site: 1 building coordinator, 8 highly qualified teachers, 2 coordinators, 1 summer family connectedness teacher, and 1 nurse
