Our FHS Values are respect, connect and challenge

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

At the end of the school day there is no teacher supervision in the playground.

All students are expected to leave the school grounds by 3.10pm unless they have a parent or caregiver looking after them.

During the school day, a duty teacher is there to mediate any conflict and also remind students to play safely. In case of an emergency FHS staff are on duty to apply first aid. However, after school hours teachers are busy planning and preparing for the following day and are often in parent or staff meetings. This makes it unsafe for your child to be playing unsupervised in the school grounds.

Please ensure your child leaves the school grounds by 3.10pm, or alternatively you can contact the after school care Kids Klub held in the FHS hall to make child care arrangements on 0272726994.

Pupuke Kāhui Ako Student Inquiry Team

Students from our Pupuke Kahui Ako schools gathered at Westlake Girls’ High School last Thursday for the first of many planned meetings this year for our new Student Inquiry Team. This initiative aims to give our students voice to the direction and growth of our Community of Learning (CoL).

The first session gave students the opportunity to mix and mingle with each other. Students began considering our CoL focus of wellbeing, key competencies, community engagement, student agency and relationships through a student lens. The morning also provided an opportunity for students to learn about Appreciative Inquiry as a process to define, discover, dream, design and deliver positive change. Forrest Hill School is represented on the Student Inquiry team by

Hamish Fraser It was fun because I got to be with other schools (Y5s-Y12s). I got to know about what different schools do e.g. Westlake Cultural Week. I got to share about our school's Tuhononga Days.

Matthew Bradshaw I enjoyed getting into groups around the inquiry topics. I liked meeting new people and learning about what Wellbeing means. I enjoyed finding out what the Kahui Ako has planned for students.

Alegria Stenberg It was fun. We were learning in a fun way. There were really nice people from different schools i.e. from primary, intermediate and college..

Seoyeon Park It was fun to cooperate with other people from other schools that I didn't know. I enjoyed getting to know people. I liked going to Westlake Girls and seeing how it works.

Online safety for parents/whānau is more important than ever. As young people begin to spend more time online, it’s important that parents start to teach them how to stay safe. So, how do you get started? This session is for parents of kids of all ages – from preschool to teenagers.

“The results from last terms Digital Citizenship survey suggest the majority of parents believe digital citizenship and digital safety is very important. Furthermore, most parents have indicated they would like to know more. So we have organised this Netsafe Event for you! See you there”. Regards Mr Robson - Lead Teacher Digital Technology

BOARD OF TRUSTEES ELECTIONS

Board of Trustee Elections are coming up. The Board plays a very important part in the running of the school for your child. The Board consists of five parents representing the parent community and one staff member representing the staff.

Meetings are held approximately once a month and the Principal is present at each meeting.

The Principal is responsible for running the school on a day to day basis however needs Board approval for many other matters.

As you are aware we have students from many different nationalities at our school and it would be great to have a Board made up of parents covering the different cultures.

Nomination forms will be posted to your home address over the next week or so. Forms are also available from the office in Te Reo and Chinese.

Karen Trafford, Returning Officer
