Myth 1Some myths say that Hanuman was born

son of the King and Queen of Monkeys. To other’s his the son of Aspara who had been turned into a monkey by curse and his father Vayu the wind god and he received the ability to fly.

When Hanuman was born, his mother could not feed him. Then he saw the sun thinking it was a fruit and leapt after it. The sun ran away but Hanuman followed it to Indra’s heaven. Indra intervened and injured Hanuman’s jaw with his thunderbolt.

Myth 2 Dasartha, the king of Ayodhya didn’t have a son so he was advised by holy men to perform a ceremony with which he would ask the gods to favour him with one. He was given cake of divine origin and was asked to share it with his three queens. He did so but his second queen was given the last share which angered her and she threw the cake away and a crow flew away with it into a forest. Vayu was flying past the crow and saw the cake in it’s beak, he blew hard blowing the cake out of the crows beak into Anjana’s hands. Anjana ate the cake and conceived Hanuman.Anjana was cursed into monkey form. Who is considered to be son of Vayu.

Who he is

Mighty ape that aided Lord Rama in his fight against evil forces. His worshiped as a symbol of physical strength, perseverance and devotion.

His a monkey deity known for his courage power and faithful, selfless service.

Hanuman along with Ganesh and Garuda, is one of the three major Hindu deities with animalistic physical features.

His birthday is on the full moon day of the Hindu Lunar month.

What he representsThis monkey god represents total

service to humanity. He represents human evolution from a life of pain, suffering, intelligence and fear.

He represents human’s ability to achieve power, intelligence to do everything.

Education His mother realized that Hanuman needed

a good education and decided that Surya, the sun should be his teacher. Surya literally means supreme light. Hanuman leapt to the sky to ask Surya to be his teacher and he refused to teach him because he has to give light and life to everything that lives on the planet. But Hanuman was willing to follow Surya everywhere and learn from everything he does which is how he got most of his knowledge.

Powers There are eight powers that are mentioned in

scriptures in relation to Hanuman.1. Anima: the ability to shrink one’s size2. Mahima: Ability to increase one’s size3. Lagima: Ablity to be weightless4. Garima: Ability to increase one’s weight 5. Brapti: Power to travel anywhere and acquire

anything 6. Parakamya: An irrestible will power7. Vastiva: Mastery over all creatures 8. Istiva: Ability to become godlike with power

to create and destroy

Meaning of Hanuman Hanuman is also known as

Bajarang Bali which means with a strong iron-like body and powerful.

His also known as Pavan Putra which means son of Vayu or wind

Anjani- Putra and Anjaneya which means son of Anjani

Prayer Let me pray to the one who is swift as

thought (manojavam-), the one who is more powerful than the wind (marut.tulya.vegam-), the one who has conquered his senses (jitendriyam-), the one who is supreme among all intelligent beings, the son of the wind-god (vaataatmajam-), the commander of the army of forest creatures (vaanar.yooth.mukhyam-), Let me find refuge in Lord Rama's Messenger, the incomparable Lord Hanuman. Please accept me and my prayers at your feet.
