From Our Pastor, Fr. Matthew Zuberbueler

Dear Friends, Last year, I recall, we had our Parish Festival on Sep-

tember 8th, the Birthday of Our Blessed Mother. Such

an occasion adds a lot to a celebration. This year the

original plan was to move the date later in the month,

the Festival being on September 28th. When we real-

ized that that would directly conflict with the St Philip

Parish Festival we moved back to September’s 2nd

Saturday. As good neighbors who love fun, food and

fellowship, I hope many of us will be able to attend

our festival and St. Philip’s.

You’ve heard by now that we are using an Octoberfest

theme. That is also an idea that evolved. The 28th is,

in some places, a day which honors Our Lady, Undoer

of Knots, a devotion from Germany. People have

come to love approaching Mary in prayer using that

title. I highly recommend that Novena (easily found

online) for resolving long-standing and tough situa-

tions in life and in families.

Be reminded, then, that in Germany the famous Octo-

berfest begins in September. And be excited to share

(and mix) the exciting foods we are preparing, fusion

being nothing new to St. Anthony’s! Bratwurst (pun

resistant), purple cabbage, sauerkraut, pretzels (knot

bad!), roasted pork (from Philipines and Bolivia), spe-

cialties from Ghana, Mexican taste sensations, and

Texas smoked brisket! There will be music and dance

and a fun food fusion competition (judged by your

culturally diverse clergy?) this Saturday from 4:00 pm

-9:00 pm, with a bonfire in the last hour. Please come.

Tickets will be available at the door. Proceeds will

support the needs of the parish.

With my prayers, Fr. Matthew Zuberbueler Pastor

Dear St. Anthony Family, We have a Preschool! It is hard to describe the joyfulness in our preschool opening in words; I hope these few pictures will tell the story. Our preschoolers enjoyed a terrific first week of school. They adjusted easily to their teachers and their new bright and inspiring classrooms. It was a busy week of making new friends, learning new things, playing together, pray-ing together, and getting settled into their daily routine. By the end of the week, the start of the day was filled with joy and grace; they quickly left their parents to enter the building to join their teachers and classmates. This is a testament to our wonderful preschool staff. The opening of our preschool entailed the efforts of so many, I want to thank all who helped make this project a reality: our project team staff, the architects Demian-Wilbur, the Construction Contractors Chamberlain and Company, the Playground Con-struction team at J. Sanchez Masonry…and so many others too numerous to mention. I am so thankful for the Blessing of this new preschool, it reminds me to “… seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 It was in fact a small Miracle built on the faith of many! Yours in Christ, Nora Buçaj Principal

Stewardship Reflection “Everyone of you who does not renounce all his pos-

sessions cannot be my disciple.” LUKE 14:33

When we first hear this statement, it seems that Jesus is making an unrealistic demand upon us. How can we renounce all of our possessions? We need them to live. However, what we must renounce is the belief that they belong to us. Everything that we have be-longs to God alone. All of our resources are entrusted to us not only for our own use, but also so that we can help others. Once we renounce the idea that we pos-sess or are entitled to anything, it is much easier to share the many gifts that God has given us. Then we truly are His Disciples.
