KIALLA CENTRAL PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Page 3
Firstly, thank you to all of our students, staff and families for your efforts and support transitioning back to Flexible and
Remote Learning. An enormous amount of work done and continues to be done by all of our staff to ensure the disruption for our students is minimal. Thank you for your support and understanding!
The Department of Education and Training released its Operational Guidelines which sets out what schools are required to do during this round of Flexible & Remote Learning.
On-site supervision is available for students in one of the following categories: Children whose parents cannot work from
home and where no other supervision arrangements can be made; Vulnerable children including: - children in out-of-home care - children deemed by Child Protection and/or Family services to be at risk of harm - children identified by the school as vulnerable (including via referral from a family violence agency, homelessness or youth justice service or mental health or other mental health service). Any child with a disability.
An on-site supervision application form must be completed each week for each child who meets one of the eligible criteria. This form needs to be emailed back to me at school by 3.00pm on Thursdays. Late forms will not be accepted as staffing arrangements are determined by how many students are on-site. Strict ratios are in place during Stage 3 restrictions. (Week 6 form is attached)
Students who attend on-site supervision will be following the Flexible and Remote Learning programs as set by their classroom teachers. They need to bring the following items: learning packs, books and stationery; charged iPads; and drink bottles, morning tea & lunch. All students must be in full school uniform. On-site supervision is from 8.30am to 3.15pm.
Public Transport Victoria still requires our school bus to operate as per usual.
At this stage, we are still operating our Outside School Hours Service. Bookings are essential to assist with staffing, planning and catering. Numbers are also limited. As you are aware, we are lending our school iPads and laptops out to our families who need them. A number of our families have taken up this opportunity again. A big thank you to Mrs O and Mr Z for getting these organised for home use.
We will be undertaking temperature screening of students participating in the on-site supervision program while the stay at home restrictions are in place.
Parents/Carers or other adults who are dropping off and/or picking up students attending on-site supervision or are picking up learning packs each fortnight, are not allowed on-site. During this time, you are permitted to drive into the school around the horse shoe up to the Zebra Crossing and toot.
KIALLA CENTRAL PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Page 4
A staff member will come to collect your child or will come out to give you your pack. Please ensure adults are also wearing a mask. Thank you for your co-operation.
We are continuing with our extra cleaning, health and safety measures on-site, including the closure of our playground areas.
Visitors to school grounds are limited to those delivering or supporting essential school services and operations (e.g. cleaning and maintenance workers).
Schools must not conduct on-site school tours for prospective students and their families at this point in time.
KCPS Flexible & Remote Learning As you are aware, we have made some changes in the way we are doing Flexible and Remote Learning based on feedback from staff, students and parents/carers. The introduction of WebEx meetings is proving to be a great success already. To ensure these meetings are effective, there are going to be some protocols for all students to follow. The protocols also assist teachers who may ask a small group of students to stay on WebEx after the class meeting to share their work or for a reading group. These protocols will be shared and posted on Google Classroom by each of the teachers. I will include a copy in next week’s newsletter. Students must ensure they are on WebEx before their class meeting starts. Staff Availability Teachers will have daily contact with their students via Google Classroom, on WebEx meetings, checking work being uploaded to
Google Classroom as well as emails from 8.50am until 3.15pm. Please adhere to the times of a usual school day during Flexible and Remote Learning. Any correspondence or work uploaded outside of these times will be addressed the following school day.
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 2.15pm to 3.15pm, our teachers will be planning so therefore will not be available or on-line.
In addition, we still have staff meetings and professional learning obligations that occur after school.
Our office administration on-site has been reduced during this time. If you call the school please leave a message and the answering machine will be checked as soon as possible. My key communication will be via email so please ensure you check your emails regularly. We are still battling through with our Footy Tipping Competition. Attached to this newsletter is Round 12 Draw for all of our 2020 Footy Tippers which are due on Thursday 13th August. Please email them to me [email protected] Thanks to Bob Scott for mowing our grounds last weekend.
Congratulations to Heather & Bruce Adderly for the safe arrival a granddaughter on the 6th August. No name as yet but a healthy 3.6kg girl and a little sister for Louis.
Stay safe and healthy.

Our normal byes rule for winning the Jackpot cannot be applied to this year's competition.
After consultation with Bomber 10 we have introduced a COVID-19 rule for bye rounds.
Those tippers who have picked 7/7 winners from Round 10 are in the running to win the
Jackpot by picking the highest number of tips (out of this group) for Round 11. They do not
have to pick 8/8 winners just have the most correct tips.
Round 10 started on Monday 3rd August with the Power dominant over the Bulldogs in the
first half but they were only 3 points behind at the main break. After half-time the game was
turned on its head with Power taking control and their chances to set up a 13 point win with a
four goal to nothing four goal to nothing 3rd quarter. Final score: Power 8.7.55 to Bulldogs
5.12.42.
On Tuesday 4th August, the full time score was the Tigers 12.10.82 to the very inaccurate
Lions 4.17.41 at Metricon Stadium. The Tigers finally put together 4 quarters of footy.
On Wednesday 5th August the Cats took on the Kangas at the Gabba. The Cats steadily
increased their lead each quarter and survived a mini revival in the final quarter from the
Kangas to win by 33 points.
Miss Baker’s Dees had a big win over the cellar dwellers the Crows at Adelaide Oval. The
game was still in the balance at 3/4 time but the Demons came out and kicked 7 goals to 1
goal in the final quarter to win by 51 points.
Thursday night saw the Magpies return to the winners list thanks Daicos who stopped the
Swans momentum with a great goal. Final score was the Magpies 6.14.50 to the
Swans 6.5.41.
Another close game for the Round was between the Suns and the Saints. The Saints hung
on and ran out 4 point winners over the Suns. This win has seen the Saints jump into 2nd
position on the ladder. Tipper Riewolt is a very happy Saints supporter!
The final game of the Round was between the Bombers and the Giants. Final score was the
Bombers 8.7.55 to the Giants 8.11.59. This saw the Giants win their 3rd match in a
row, in a famous come from behind victory. They kicked 4 goals to one in the final quarter to
run over the Bombers.
