Your Weekly Monday Memo… Monday, February 01, 2016…… Happy Catholic Schools Week everyone! LOG YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS – Win a Prize! - Congratulations again to the James Family that won the first trimester volunteer hour drawing! WILL YOU BE NEXT??? We want to know all the great things our parents are doing for St. James! All volunteers who have logged at least 5 hours for the second trimester will be entered into a drawing for a wonderful prize from PPA! Deadline to enter your hours is Monday, February 22 and our second trimester drawing will be held on February 26. Please remember to log your hours using the online form found on the SJCS website. You can access the online form at http://www.stjcs.com/index.cfm?pID=15769 ) or go to the SJCS website and click on the “Parent Involvement” tab on the top and scroll down to the “Volunteer Hours log” line. This will pull up an online form for you to complete and submit your volunteer hours. Use this to log in your PPA committee hours, lunch room volunteer hours, classroom volunteer hours, cathedral ministry hours, athletic coaching hours, etc. (Please note that the school yellow tag check in system does not interface with this online log-in so you must also complete an online submission for these hours.) FIRST FRIDAY COFFEE AND SPIRITWEAR - Why not shop on the cobbles while sipping on your coffee and chatting with friends? The PPA will have spirit wear available outside for you to purchase on Friday, Feb. 5. We should have all sizes available for this Friday. Thank you and see you on the cobbles! We are in need of more cans! Hurry and send in your cans! If every student brought in one can of soup we can be sure that Fr. John would be a winner! So let the competition begin and remember to bring in your can(s) soon! Deadline is approaching…. Sunday, February 7. You can drop off your cans at the Church or School. Wednesday, April 6 at 7pm the Orlando Magic will play the Detroit Pistons at the Amway Arena! St. James families have been given special pricing on seats in order to go see the game together and cheer on our own St. James Cheerleaders!! The Cheerleaders will be performing pregame on center court!!! A small amount of the ticket price will go to support our cheerleading program at St. James, so come out, cheer us on, and have a blast!! Flyers to be posted shortly in order to reserve tickets! CLAIRE LUBE (GRADE 7) WINS ST. JAMES GEOGRAPHIC BEE - Moves One Step Closer to $50,000 College Scholarship - Claire won the school competition of the National Geographic Bee on January 21 and a chance at a $50,000 college scholarship. The school Bee, at which students answered questions on geography, was the first round in the 28th annual National Geographic Bee. Thousands of schools around the United States and in the five U.S. territories are participating in the 2016 Bee. The school champions, including Claire, will take a qualifying test; up to 100 of the top scorers on that test in each state will then be eligible to compete in their state Bee on April 1, 2016. The national finals will air on television on the National Geographic Channel and PBS stations. Check local listings for dates and times. Everyone can test their geography knowledge with the exciting GeoBee Challenge, an online geography quiz at www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee, which poses 10 new questions a day, or by downloading the “National Geographic GeoBee Challenge” app, with more than 1,000 questions culled from past Bees.

SCHOOL SPELLING BEE WINNERS ARE - On Friday, January 22, forty students from grades 5-8 participated in the school spelling bee to determine the two winners who will represent our school in the Orange County Spelling Bee to be held this Friday, February 5, 2016. The students who spelled their way “to the top” were:

After the fierce competition, Shebania Janvier emerged as the St. James Champion. First Runner-Up, Marcus Lisman, will accompany Shebania to the Orange County Bee. In addition, Encyclopedia Britannica congratulates Shebania Janvier for outstanding achievement in the 2016 Scripps National Spelling Bee Program and awards her with a free one-year subscription to Kids.Britannica.com. Congratulations Shebania and Marcus!

Mandatory auditions will be held in the school gym after school Friday, February 26 (K-4th) and Monday, February 29 (5th-8th)

Mandatory Dress Rehearsal after school Thursday, March 10 Students are limited to ONE performance ONLY, Group or Solo act

Music and Lyrics must be attached to Entry Form Please attach MP3 formatted CD for dancing act or Karaoke CD for singing act.

Divisions will create “Soup Can Sculptures” using the cans in the gym.

Judging by administration to award the “Souper” Bowl Champion.

Dress for the day is favorite sports jersey/shirt with jeans.
