As you view these pictures, you will notice that they skip many, many years. As is often the case with family holiday meals, some years there were cameras around and some years there weren’t. Once Adrian and Wanda’s grandchildren got old enough to start having Easter egg hunts, more pictures were taken.

You can see corn growing in the background so it is not Easter but late in the summer. These were probably our Easter dresses from a

few months before. ,

Once the grandchildren started getting old enough to entertain themselves, we would take time to sit and enjoy each other’s

company.

As children, we watched Wanda make Polish Easter Eggs (Pisanki). Sadly, we failed to take pictures of

any of them. These pictures were as close as I

could come to what she would do, though many of

her designs were floral.

The process uses wax. Wanda would often use melted crayons and the heads of straight pins to

“tattoo” a design onto the egg. Sometimes, liquid,

clear wax would be applied in a design on the egg and then placed in a dye bath.

This picture of Adrian and Wanda would have been taken between 1939 and 1945. The location is unknown – just thought you might enjoy seeing it!

More Easter pictures will probably surface after posting these, so I will save them until next Easter!
