Theology Roundtable Postponed Again

C hronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel García Márquez tells the story of the murder of

Santiago Nasar by the Vicario twins. The novella was based on real-life events that occurred to García Márquez’s godbrother.

The book explores the morality of the village’s collective responsibility in the murder of Santiago Nasar. Is anyone besides the two brothers responsible for Nasar’s death? Is anyone guilty? If so, how?

We will meet in the Community Room on Friday, July 10, at 9:15 a.m. Come and share your thoughts about the book. As always, our aim is to improve our understanding of our faith.

God Loves You!

REPORTING ABUSE: AN UPDATE Since 2002, the Archdiocese of Newark has formalized a process of reporting sexual abuse allegations, in accordance with the USCCB Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, Essential Norms and a Memorandum of Understanding between the state prosecutors’ offices and the NJ Dioceses. A year ago, Pope Francis issued an apostolic letter, Vos estis lux mundi (“You are the light of the world”) that strengthened and formalized the process for holding bishops accountable. As part of the implementation of the letter here in the United States, a platform was created by an independent, third party providing a secure, confidential, and professional way to report allegations against living bishops. This service is in place to gather and relay reports of sexual misconduct involving bishops of the United States, and reports of their intentional interference in a sexual abuse investigation. Individuals may make a report online at www.ReportBishopAbuse.org or by calling toll free (800) 276-1562. If you wish to report any other kind of misconduct by a bishop — or sexual abuse by a priest, deacon, religious brother or sister, or layperson working for the Church — please contact the Archdiocese of Newark at (201) 407-3256. To make a report involving a bishop that pertains to sexual abuse or related misconduct,

Pope prays for those still hit by COVID-19; urges caution elsewhere VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Pope Francis prayed for people living in countries where COVID-19 is still causing a huge number of deaths, and he cautioned people in Italy to continue to be careful and follow health precautions. ‘Be careful, do not sing ‘Victory!’ yet, do not celebrate victory too soon! It remains necessary to follow the rules in force carefully because they are rules that help us to prevent the virus from gaining ground,” he said June 7 after reciting the Angelus prayer from the window of the Apostolic Palace.

St. A’s Food Collection We are immediately resuming our food collection (without brown bags for now). The need to help feed families is great. Please bring your donation of non-perishable food to the Church entrance or the Narthex. The Church is open from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Monday to Friday and from 8-11 a.m. on Sunday. The pandemic has created enormous need. Please help if you are able.

Page 5: Happy Father’s Day · 6/21/2020  · Our men and women serving in the military: Mark Davison, Sr., Mark Davison, Jr., Carlos Delavilla, Bryan Ferrara, Alex Fries, Josh Matthews,

Dear Friends, How happy we are to begin the process of reopening our Church and slowly come out of our homes to pray together. There’s ALOT of information to digest. I hope you’ve been following the updates on our parish Facebook page as well as my Facebook page, the parish website, bulletin pastor columns, and announcements at the end of each Mass.

It’s very important to stay informed and up to date. While I won’t repeat any of what was previously written or said, here’s a few things to keep in mind as you go through all the documents and pages of information: 1. The obligation to attend Mass on Sundays is still dispensed, and we will still continue to livestream an English Mass and a Spanish Mass on the weekends. 2. Many members of our Hispanic community graciously donated their time to reformat the seating of the Church to keep each person socially distant and compliant. We can safely seat 140 people if we include space in the narthex and the balcony. BUT we are still waiting for a specific number or percentage from the archdiocese that will allow the maximum amount of people. 3. Again, please check all the resources I’ve prepared for you and the many safety precautions that we are taking to keep everyone safe and comfortable. 4. And this is the point of this week’s column: There’s no pressure to attend Mass at this time, even if you feel healthy. If you feel uncomfortable in any way, or unsure, or don’t feel it’s time for you to un-quarantine, it’s ok to stay home. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be soliciting help for liturgical ministers and other volunteers to assist, but please only do so if you’re feeling well and feeling comfortable. The worship experience of being back to Church will only be fruitful if you’re comfortable at this point. I hope all this helps as you prayerfully discern when and how you’re ready to resume public worship. BUT again, please be informed with all the materials and data prepared as you make that decision. Peace, blessings, and fraternal regards, Rev. Joseph A. D’Amico

Paz, bendiciones y saludos fraternos, Rev. Joseph A. D'Amico
