New Hope News January 1, 2017
Happy New Year
HE HAS MADE EVERYTHING BEAUTIFUL IN ITS TIME.
Ecclesiastes 3:11
A new year is upon us and we anticipate being able
to serve the Lord with gladness of heart. On January
8th, during the worship service we will have a spe-
cial time designated to install all of the incoming
officers of the church. The church is designed to
utilize the talents and ministry gifts of individuals.
This is as it should be and we, as members of New
Hope are greatly blessed with strong leadership.
You will certainly want to participate in the com-
mission and charge to the elected leadership as we
move into a new year of nurturing, connecting and
serving.
Calling all Team leaders! We launch into a new struc-
ture with the coming of a New Year. On Wednesday,
January 4th at 6 PM Team leaders will meet to “Draft”
members of the congregation to serve in the five prima-
ry areas of ministry. Nurture, Serve, Connect, Mainte-
nance, and Stewardship/Administration. Members will
have the opportunity to sign up for one of these teams
on Sunday, January 1 (if you have not already done so).
So, choose how you will serve the Lord during 2017.
This is going to be an exciting year as we seek to impact
our community and the world for Jesus Christ.
Christmastide (also Christmas Time or the Christmas season), also known as Twelvetide, is a season of the liturgical year in most
Christian churches. For most Christian denominations, such as the United Methodist Church and the Catholic Church, Christmastide
begins on Christmas Eve at sunset or First Vespers, which is liturgically the beginning of Christmas Day. Most of Christmas Eve, un-
derstood as 24 December, is thus not part of Christmastide, but of Advent, the season in the Church Year that precedes Christmas-
tide; in many liturgical calendars, Christmastide is followed by the closely related season of Epiphanytide
Christmastide begins very early on 25 December. Historically, the ending of Christmastide was 5 January. This traditional date is still
followed by the Anglican Church and Lutheran Church, where Christmastide, commonly called the Twelve Days of Christmas, lasts
12 days, from 25 December to 5 January, the latter date being named as Twelfth Night.
Customs of the Christmas season include carol singing, gift giving, seeing Nativity plays, attending church services, and eating spe-
cial food, such as Christmas cake. Traditional examples of Christmas greetings include the Western Christian phrase "Merry Christ-
mas and a Happy New Year!" and the Eastern Christian greeting "Christ is born!", to which others respond, "Glorify Him!"

Hey kids, if you still have a copy of the Christmas
Play Book, please return it to Anthony right away so he can put everything away together!
Okay, now that the Christmas program is over, we will go back to regular Children’s Church lessons.
Remember we were learning the books of the Bible.
Do you remember all the ones we learned? If not, you can get out your Bible and brush up and be ready for January 1st so we can start the new year off right.
