Here’s some exciting news worth shouting out: women are basically running Portland’s cultural life! We’ve come a long way, baby (don’t worry, we love you too, Mark, Steve, Grant, Daniel, Ken, Derek, Chris & Jed). We not only celebrate the historic centennial of suffrage next Fall, but we have a viable opportunity to build and brand Portland as a major arts hub of New England. We are already responsible for over $75 million in expenditures in the nonprofit arts & culture sector alone. That’s a significant industry - and it’s half of the state’s overall $150 million in nonprofit arts impact, according to Americans for the Arts' AEP5 study from 2017. It’s time to spread that buzz right here in Portland. Let’s celebrate our vibrant circle of women artists, executive directors, managers, and other creative leaders and entrepreneurs who make a huge impact in our creative economy through the arts. On behalf of the arts and cultural community, let’s give a special shout out to all women who tirelessly, creatively, and graciously contribute buckets of love and art into our lives! - Dinah Minot, Executive Director A new year toast to the amazing women in our creative economy Regional Chamber of Commerce; Kelly Hrenko, USM Art Department; Alison Hildreth, Bakery Studios; Jennifer Hutchins, Maine Association of Nonprofits; Erin Hutton, Institute of Contemporary Art @ MECA; Emily Isaacson, Portland Bach Experience; Elizabeth Jones, PMA Deputy; Sara Juli, Surala Consulting; Martha Kearsley & Lisa Pixley, PrintCraft; Lily King, author; Julia Kirby, Portland Public Art Committee; Caroline Koelker, Opera Maine; Alice Kornhauser, Portland Chamber Music Festival; Celine Kuhn, The Telling Room; Susan Larsen, The Dorothea & Leo Rabkin Foundation; Jocelyn Lee, SPEEDWELL projects; Kelley Lehr & Jessica McCarthy Myer, Greenhut Galleries; Winky Lewis, photographer; Mary Allen Lindemann, Coffee By Design; Lin Lisberger, artist; Liz Marks & Elizabeth Prior, Fore River Gallery; Adele Masengo Ngoy, Adele Masengo Designs; Blainor McGough, Mayo Street Arts; Jill McGowan; Barbara Merson, Maine Jewish Film Festival; Governor Janet Mills; Dinah Minot, Creative Portland; Marcia Minter, Indigo Arts Alliance; Susan Morris, NewHeight Group; Adria Moynihan Rusk, Still Life Studio; Jean Murachanian, Portland Conservatory of Music; Pilar Nadal, Pickwick Independent Press; Krista Newman, Laurie Willey & Valerie Levy, AURA; Deirdre Nice, St. Lawrence Arts; Carolyn Nishon, Portland Symphony Orchestra; Tessa O'Brien, Portland Mural Initiative; Suzanne Olson, Children's Museum and Theatre of Maine; Aimée Petrin, Portland Ovations; Congresswoman Chellie Pingree; Pam Plumb & Karolyn Greenstreet, Mechanics' Hall; Mary Pols, Maine Women Magazine; Aimsel Ponti; Marty Pottenger, Maine USA; Julie Richard, Maine Arts Commission; Susan Roux, Roux & Cyr International Fine Art Gallery; Emily Russo, Print: A Bookstore; Heather Sanborn, Rising Tide Brewing Company; Kat Saunier, The Dooryard; Nell Shipman, Portland Ballet; Krista Simonis, The Fresnel Theater; Amanda Skinner, UNE Art Gallery; Olympia Snowe, Olympia Snowe Women's Leadership Institute; Alice Spencer, TEMPOart; Jenn Stein, Fork Food Lab; Anita Stewart, Portland Stage; Roxi Suger, suger; Jen Swarts, Casco Bay Artisans; Hannah Tarkinson, Ponomo; Dela Taylor Murphy, Friends of Congress Square Park; Lynn Tillotson, Visit Portland; Jessica Tomlinson, Artists at Work @ MECA; Liz Trice, PelotonLabs; Stefanie Trice Gill, IntWork.co; Julia Trujillo Luengo, Office of Economic Opportunity; Briana Volk, Portland Hunt + Alpine; Lauren Wayne, State Theatre; Linzee Weld, One Longfellow Square; Beth Wilbur Van Mierlo, Side x Side; and Pamela Williamson, Richard Boyd Art Gallery.
