NEWSLETTER
This week we are celebrating and acknowledging the work of School Service Officers in our school.
Their work is varied across many areas and provides important functions without which our school
could not operate.
In total we have 28 SSO’s who perform the following roles:
Business Manager
Finance Officer
Reception Duties
Student support
Leading Intervention programs
First Aid
Administrative tasks
IT management
Resource Centre
Within these roles are a myriad of tasks which support our school in being a caring, well organised,
supportive, improving learning environment.
We have a wonderful team of SSO’s at Magill. They are highly skilled in their roles and as importantly
are warm, caring, patient, flexible, friendly people who know our school and its families very well.
We thank each of them for their commitment and service to our school which goes above and beyond
their roles. We are extremely fortunate to have such an amazing team.
Happy SSO Week

Instrumental Music Concert
Our staff have witnessed and had reported to us a number of near misses at the Adelaide Street drop off and Pick up area. We want all of our students to be safe during the very busy periods and encourage all parents and caregivers to follow and abide by all road and parking regulations. Some simple guidelines for keeping everyone safe are:
Observe the 25KM/H speed limit for the entire length of Adelaide Street
Do not park and leave your vehicle whilst the drop off / pick up zone is in operation.
Do not let children get out of or in the car whilst stopped on the street. Exiting from the left hand side of the vehicle is the safest side.
Do not stop at the crossing to drop off or pick up students
Move as far forward as possible when pulling into the drop off / pick up zone. This will stop cars zig-zagging in and out
Exercise extreme caution when reversing into a carpark. Better still, don’t do it!
Do not hold up traffic whilst waiting for a spot. This causes major issues on Penfold Road. Go around the block instead.
A teacher is on duty until 3:25pm and will escort any remaining children to the office. We all need to do our bit to keep our kids safe.
Regards
John Iannunzio
Principal

WEEKLY RESULTS
Several classes at Magill chose to participate in a Visual Arts Display as part of the 2019 “Dream Big” Arts festivities. P8 and P9 created “Gazing Galaxy” astronauts and “Racing Rockets”.
P2 Portrait artworks on tea towels represent the Dream Big Theme of “People Together”.
Some Magill Senior students from F1, F2, F3, F4 and F15 were lucky enough to work with the talented Ms Amelia Talbot in producing the “Children in Layers” artworks. This collection of painted self-portraits depicts the cultural diversity of each unique individual.
BOOK WEEK 2019
Term 3, Week 5 (17th – 23th August)
Whole-school Dress-up Day
Wednesday 21st August, 2019 Theme: ‘Reading is my Secret Power’.
This year, we have decided to revamp Book Week at Magill School and therefore
it will look a little different.
We have chosen to a give greater focus to the Literacy aspects, whilst still being
able to enjoy the fun of a dress up day
(maybe in the theme of a superhero or a character from your favourite book).
Class based activities will take place to celebrate Literature
and foster a love of books.
Class teachers will provide more information about this in the coming weeks!

Reception - My Body
The reception children have
learned to describe their body
parts in Chinese. They used
shapes and words to identify and
label their own body parts.
Year 1 - Who am I ?
Year 1 students have been learning to use adjectives such as ‘big, small, long and short'. They have written sentences in Chinese to describe what they look like eg ‘I have blonde hair’. They also wrote sentences to express their preference of animals and colours.
