Principal’s message February 2015
We just had a wonderful
Fur Trade Festival. I had
the privilege of leading the
drumming station and I have
to compliment all the stu-
dents who showed great re-
spect and enthusiasm for all
the activities. Many thanks
to our awesome organizing
committee who went above
and beyond to prepare for
this excellent day! We are
also enjoying I Love to Read
and Write month. Many stu-
dents are filling out their chal-
lenges in order to put their
names into a draw to be
‘Principal for a Day’! Keep on
reading and writing!

Kindergarten Registration
for 2015-2016 We are now accepting kindergar-
ten registrations for both our
English and English-Ukrainian Bi-
lingual programs for children
born in 2010. The English-
Ukrainian program is available to
all children in the Lord Selkirk
School Division. This year we are
asking our parents to register as
soon as possible because we now
provide readiness packages for
children prior to their entering
kindergarten. This material will
help your child be better pre-
pared for school.
For additional information, please
contact the school at 482-4521.
Mr. Chody’s Chatter Hopefully we will see the sun shining and warmer weather on our horizons. Unfortunately, today is not one of those warmer days yet. The Eco Kids have been working very hard on the indoor garden. We have now planted close to 60 plants. We have sever-al varieties of vegetables and herbs growing in the gar-den. Our tomatoes and peppers are now over several feet tall and looking very healthy. We are anxiously awaiting our first flowers on these plants and hopefully we will see the “fruit” of our labour.
The Bucket Filling program is going strong. We had
several awards given out this past month. A really awe-
some change to the program occurred quite naturally.
I’m receiving award nominations from students. One
student wanted to thank a peer for coming to help fix a
fort that was broken. This person wasn’t asked, they
came on their own. Another person wanted to say thank
-you to a peer for making sure they were alright after
they had fallen and hurt themselves. These types of ac-
tions fill buckets. Great job!
Library News Whirlwind time! That is how I am describing this February. We are enjoying what I think is the biggest and best yet “I
Love to Read and Write Month”! We have special guest readers and contests and challenges and prizes. It is a time
when we really appreciate books and words and talented children’s authors! Add to that mix our student’s own writing
efforts and it truly is a time to celebrate literacy. We have also had a beautiful new picture book donated to our Library
by school trustee, Mrs. L. Kublick, who has already stopped by to read to classes in the library!
There will be little time to catch our breaths before March arrives with our Scholastic Book Fair. (Books from the Fair
will be awarded as prizes to 3 lucky classrooms for one of our “I Love to Read and Write Month” contests this year).
The Book Fair is an important fundraiser that always boosts our library’s appeal with the resources we gain from Book
Fair sales. I am always grateful to the families who continue to support the cause, and enrich their own children’s lives
with books! (Anyone interested in volunteering can still contact the school. I’d love to have new faces join the volun-
teer team).
I hope you are all looking forward to spring! It’s a time of renewal and a great time to start a new book series or add a
new author to your family’s favourites!

Dear Petrusia,
What was your favourite dance at the Zabava?
From, Brooke S.
Dear Brooke,
Why the Perogy Dance of course!
From, Petrusia
EUBP News January and February have been so busy for our students. We have had so many compli-ments on our Ukrainian students singing for the New Year celebration. Our students sang at the St. Clements Municipal Office, Lord Selkirk School Division Office, and two Sen-iors Complexes before meeting at the Library. The Library was a great place to meet and en-joy the students’ singing. We received many wonderful comments. The press took pictures and we were in the papers!
The money raised for VIP seating for our EUBP Christmas Concert was donated to the HTS Breakfast Program.
The Zabava was a hit! Many of you came out to our dance Party in the Happy Thought Gym.
Mrs. Lovenjak was an excellent emcee and D.J. Jazzy Jason Chody cranked out great tunes, I even saw Petrusia Perogy having fun leading the bunny hop.
The proceeds of the dance will go towards the Grade Eight’s Vegreville Trip.
On April 9th students will be celebrating the Easter Blessing. That means in March they will be busy making Easter bread and dying Easter eggs.
The Ukrainian Kindergarten Open House will be March 25th at 7:00pm in the HTS Library.
Thank you to all the students, teachers, staff and volunteers who help make our programs successful.
