Principal’s Message
It is hard to believe that we are already into the beginning of the fourth quarter. We are getting ready
for the administration of the Ohio Achievement Assessments. The Harding community has much to
be proud of in our past performance on these assessments. Our success is due in large part to the
commitment from parents, teacher and students to put forth their best each and every day. I feel con-
fident that all of our students will show continued growth on these tests as we prepare them for the
10th grade Ohio Graduation Test.
Please note the following dates for achievement tests this year.
6th grade
Reading—May 1
Math—May 3
7th Grade
Reading—April 25
Math-April 27
8th Grade
Reading—April 24
Math—April 26
Science—May 2
Please remember to make sure that your students have a healthy breakfast and get a good night’s sleep
before their exams. Please make sure that students are at school on time during testing. Students that
are absent or late will have the opportunity to make up missed exams.
We appreciate your continued support!
Sincerely,
Keith Ahearn, Principal

A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT:
As our Spring Break approaches and outdoors beckons with the nice weather, it is easy for our students to be
distracted as the end of the school year is in their sights. It is more important than ever for our staff and stu-
dents to stay focused on finishing the school year strong. The Ohio Achievement Assessments will be adminis-
tered for grades 3-8 beginning at the end of this month and it is imperative that our students are mentally and
academically prepared to do well on these tests, which determine the outcome of our State Report Card results.
I know that with our highly qualified, dedicated staff and the contribution of our parents at home, our students
will be successful. At the high school, I encourage our high school students to finish the year strong in order to
improve their academic standing.
On another note, if you missed the chance to participate in the series of Community Engagement meetings
held in January and February, a compilation of the responses from the meetings is available on the district web
site. Click on the Community Engagement Quick Link on the left side of the page to see what your fellow citi-
zens had to say about what they value in our schools.
Enjoy the time off to rejuvenate and relax with family and friends over Spring Break. We will see everyone
back in school on April 16.

CHANGES IN IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS!
Beginning with the 2010-2011 school year, the Ohio Department of Health made changes to the required im-
munizations needed for incoming Kindergarten and 7th grade. Therefore, any new incoming Kindergarten
through 2nd and 7th through 9th grade students will have the following requirements:
K- 2: A second dose of Varicella (chicken pox) is needed
7- 9: One dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis).
Unless otherwise exempt, students not providing evidence of the shot being given or an
appointment date will be excluded from school within 14 school days.
If you have any questions, please call your building’s school nurse.

Sixth Grade News
Test Time is Growing Near
Teachers have been working diligently to prepare
your child for the sixth-grade Ohio Achievement
Assessment. Your middle-schooler will feel more
prepared if he/she listens carefully in class, does all
homework and class work, and stays organized by
using his/her plan book. Periodically, you might
wish to ask to see the plan book and check organi-
zation skills.
More Learning to Follow
A full grading period remains, with many exciting
things to learn. Final year-end grades consider all
four grading periods. Please continue to check
your child’s planner and/or contracts.
Materials Matter
Teachers would appreciate regular blue/black ink
pens and #2 pencils. However, with a quarter of
the school year remaining, most students will need
more pencils, paper, pens, and coloring materials
for the remaining weeks. Please check with your
child to see if more supplies are needed.
We are also in need of more tissues for
classroom use. It’s been a season filled
with coughs, colds, and flu, and our supplies are
low. Thank you for your help!
Read, Read, Read!
Were you careful to initial your child’s “Book It”
calendar? One of the best ways to learn to read is
by regular practice sessions. By providing this
quiet time for your child, you will play a major
role in his/her success as a reader. Although the
Book It program will be ending for the school
year, we hope that you will continue to encourage
your child to read in a regular, enjoyable way.
Where Am I?
Which region of the world is your child
“visiting” now? Ask about what countries
he/she is learning about in Social Studies
class.
Field Trip
As you will recall back in December, a walking field
trip to Beck Center was planned for May. If your
child’s fees were paid, and he/she was able to meet
the deadline before the seats were filled, “Willy
Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” will be enjoyed by
all participants! Don’t forget to pack a lunch on the
day of the trip, since students will not arrive back un-
til after the cafeteria is closed for their lunch hour.
