Hardwood Shelving Shelving

General SpecificationsCONSTRUCTIONShelving construction is a modular type, utilizing all naturalhardwoods. Shelving units are designed with the starter andadder concept and measure 36" from center to center of the uprights. Oak and Maple are the standard wood species forBrodart shelving.

END PANELSEnd panels are 1" thick, 9-ply hardwood veneer core plywood.All exposed vertical edges and 42," 48," and 60-1Ú2" H top edgesare banded with matching solid hardwood. Edges are square, buteased. Vertical rows of holes are drilled near the front and therear of each panel for shelf adjustment on 32mm centers. Clipand metal strip style shelf attachments are available if specified. Panels are drilled at front, rear, top, and bottom for embedding internally and externally threaded bushings. Tops andbases are attached to end panels with 5/16" - 18 x 2" hex-headbolts and washers. Lag bolts or wood screws are not used.

INTERMEDIATE UPRIGHTSIntermediate uprights are 1" thick, 9-ply hardwood veneer coreplywood. Edges are square, but eased. Shelf pinholes are boredon both sides of the panel and are staggered so that pins can bedeeply seated without coinciding with the pinholes on theopposite side. Clip and metal strip style shelf attachments areavailable if specified. Panels are drilled through at front, rear,top, and bottom for attachment of tops and bases with 5/16"-18 x4-1Ú2" hex-head bolts, nuts, and washers.

BASEThe base front is 4" H and 3/4" thick solid hardwood. A 2" x 3/4"rail is tenoned full-length to the inside of the front. Boltingcleats 1-1Ú4" x 1-1Ú4" are glued and stapled perpendicular at theends of the rail and are drilled to allow assembly bolts to passthrough. A second full-length rail is glued and stapled to therear of the bolting cleats for support and proper alignment.Bases are made so that the base shelf rests on the bolting cleats,and is set behind and flush with the top of the base front.

ATTACHMENTFour bolts are used to attach each single-faced base or top,except for 16" D single-faced units, on which six bolts are used.Eight bolts are used to attach each double-faced base or top. Allhardware is concealed from view after assembly. Each single-faced unit is supplied with a metal bracket, lead anchor,and screws for fastening to the wall. Double-faced ranges thatdo not have partitions receive two steel sway bars 53" long and5/16" square. These attach to each end panel and the next intermediate panel with screws.

BACKS AND PARTITIONSBacks and partitions are constructed of 3-ply or 5-ply furniture-grade plywood finished to match shelving. Backs arefinished on one side and used with single-faced shelving.Partitions are used with double-faced shelving, and thereforefinished on both sides. Economical painted backs and partitionsare also available upon request.

Note: Backs and partitions do not function with �Book-Stop� shelving.

SUB TOPS FOR CONTINUOUS SHELVING TOPSSub tops are constructed using solid hardwood cleats and plywood components. Tops have a 2-1/4" facia, 3/4" thick, ofsolid hardwood banded to the front.

WOOD SHELVING TOPSCornice tops have a 2-1Ú4" facia, 3/4" thick, of solid hardwoodbanded to a 3/4" plywood panel of specified depth. The top frontcorner of the facia has a 1/8" radius. On the inside surface of thetop at each end, butted to the facia, a solid hardwood boltingcleat 1-1Ú4" x 1-1Ú4" is both glued and stapled. For additionalstrength, a 4" cleat is added at the intersection of the facia andtop panel. Bolting cleats are drilled to allow assembly bolts to pass through.

INDIVIDUAL PLASTIC (HPL) TOPSCornice tops have a 2-1/4" facia, 3/4" thick, of solid hardwoodbanded to a 3/4" 3-ply 45# density particleboard panel of specified depth, that consists of a top surface of .050" thickhigh-pressure laminate, with a backing sheet not less than .020"thick for balanced construction. Plastic laminate has a lo-glarefinish resistant to scratches, fading, and staining that meets orexceeds NEMA standards.

SHELVING TOPS (Plastic and Continuous)

To order wood shelving with individual plastic tops use thestandard shelving part number, changing the S00 to S03. Topsare available in 42" and 60" H units. If 72" or 82" is required,order as M03.

To order wood shelving with sub tops for use with continuousshelving tops, use the standard shelving part number changingthe S00 to S02. The sub tops are available in 42", 48", and 60"H units. Sub-tops are not available for 16" D units.

Hardwood Shelving Shelving

WOOD SHELVESShelves are 3/4" thick, glued-up solid hardwood. Randomwidths no more than 4" or less than 1-1/2" are used. To ensure adequate support for heavy volumes, no substitute for solidhardwood is permitted. Adjustable shelves are grooved 11/32"diameter half round on the underside to set firmly on the 1"long, 5/16" diameter shelf pins, which are cadmium-plated andthreaded. Shelf depths are nominal.

OMEGA (STEEL) SHELVES Omega (steel) shelves are designed to fit Brodart's wood shelving units. These shelves are 18-gauge steel stamped withnotches in the bottom edge to fit over shelf pins. The front andback edges are triple bent for strength and to eliminate sharpedges. Shelves are electrostatically powder painted with epoxypaint and oven cured. Shelf accepts spring-type overhead wirebook support. Units are supplied with a wood base shelf.Omega shelves are available in many standard and optional colors - please call for selection.

The newspaper file insert fits into 10" or 12" Dshelving, 82" or 60-1Ú2" H. File insert is made of twohardwood cleats, 1-1Ú4" thick, with 1" notched slotsfor files. Cleats are attached to uprights with wood screws. Insert is supplied with ten newspaper sticks.

Except where specified, all shelving is suppliedwithout backs. When specified, single-faced shelving is supplied with full-height and full widthplywood backs 1/4" thick. Backs fit into a rabbet onend panels and low shelving tops and base so thatedges are concealed from view after installation.

Except where specified, all shelving is suppliedwithout partitions. When specified, double-facedshelving is supplied with full-height and full-widthplywood partitions 1/4" thick. Partitions fit into grooves in the end panels, intermediates, tops,and base.

Shelves are made to fit any standard 36" W woodshelving units either pin and hole or clip and strip.These units are 18-gauge steel and are electrostatically powder painted with epoxy paintwhich is oven cured. Shelf can display any type ofmedia such as CDs, videocassettes, books andmagazines. The shelf can be divided with the sixdividers provided with each shelf. Shelves areavailable in standard Omega colors, Sand orBrown. Other colors are available on special order.

This unit has a solid hardwood frame construction,frame rails are 1-3Ú4" W. Inserted into the inside edgeof the frame is a 1/4" thick cork board. A metalpiano hinge is attached to the rear top of the framethat is to be screwed to the shelving top fascia. Thisallows the bulletin board to lift for storage. Toassist in lifting a metal pull knob is affixed to thecenter of the bottom frame rail.

END PANELS: WOOD SHELVINGThis red-oak, veneered MDF panel has standard slatwall spacing and vertical-grained grooves. The 8-1/4" bottom portionof the panel has a 3/4"-thick panel splined to it, consisting ofmatching horizontal-grained veneers without slatwall grooves.

Panels are banded at the top and bottom and have an L-shaped,1" x 1" molding glued to the two vertical edges to provide a finished appearance. The slatwall panel is designed to be usedin conjunction with an existing end panel.

ORDERING: EXACT height and depth of panel must be specified when ordering.
