Wickipedia: A fragrance is a chemical compound that has a smell or odor.

Aroma compoundFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaJump to: navigation, search"Fragrance" redirects here. For other uses, see Fragrance (disambiguation)."Odorants" redirects here. For the punk rock band, see The Odorants.

An aroma compound, also known as odorant, aroma, fragrance or flavor, is a chemical compound that has a smell or odor. A chemical compound has a smell or odor when two conditions are met: the compound needs to be volatile, so it can be transported to the olfactory system in the upper part of the nose, and it needs to be in a sufficiently high concentration to be able to interact with one or more of the olfactory receptors.

Aroma compounds can be found in food, wine, spices, perfumes, fragrance oils, and essential oils. For example, many form biochemically during ripening of fruits and other crops. In wines, most form as byproducts of fermentation. Odorants can also be added to a dangerous odorless substance, like propane, natural gas, or hydrogen, as a warning. Also, many of the aroma compounds play a significant role in the production of flavorants, which are used in the food service industry to flavor, improve, and generally increase the appeal of their products.

In the cosmetics and personal care industry the word “fragrance” is a catch all word that could mean the inclusion of hundreds of unlabeled ingredients.

Over 5,000 fragrance ingredients, mostly synthetic, are commonly used in many personal care, cosmetics, and household products.

The overwhelming truth about this word fragrance is that companies do not have to list the ingredients used in their products because of a “trade secret” loophole. When we use these products we have no idea what we are exposing our bodies too. Whether they be toxins, allergens, hormone disrupting, or even cancer causing ingredients.

The International Fragrance Association says the industry is trying to be transparent and that ingredients are no “Secret”

They have listed 3163 ingredients on their website http://www.ifraorg.org under public/issues/ingredients

The problem with that is that the ingredients are not labeled on your products. Your product just says “fragrance” and that’s wherein the secret lies!

I looked up a few that jumped out at me and checked the toxicity score @ http://www.CosmeticsDataBase.com

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate ~ 3, Isopropyl Alcohol ~ 4, Benzyl Alcohol ~ 6, Triclosan ~7, Dibutyl Phthalate ~ 10

You can go to http://www.CosmeticsDataBase.com And check your products and

ingredients for potential toxins and hazards.

Read all your ingredient labels to see if it lists Fragrance, even if the front says “Fragrance Free” it may be listed as “Parfum” as well.
